He leaned in and kissed her, and then there was a chirp. Someone’s comms was getting a call. Jason wrapped her up and carried her inside and set her on the couch as the incessant chirp continued. He began digging through tossed cushions and the disheveled rug until he found the one making the noise. “Mine. Sorry.” and he turned it on and said “Yeah, this is Reilly. Go ahead.” There was some muffled speech and he looked back at Hannah. “Tell you what… just put this on the back burner until tomorrow. I’m… out of the office today. And it can wait.” and he hung up and walked back to her and sat down, crawling under the blanket. “Now… where were we?”Jason
Hannah signed a rapid, nonononono when he said he was out of the office. As much as she would like to be out, she couldn’t, could she? Oh she wanted to be. Then he was back under the blanket with her and she decided she still had a few hours before she had to worry about it. Her hand slipped around him, and her stomach had that happy watm feeling. “I was entranced by the view and you were kissing me.”
Hannah
He smiled and went back to that with all the conviction he could muster.
A few hours later…
The bed on the top floor of the apartment was large and comfortable. It had wonderful, thick blankets and some of the best pillows on Oed… all of which was piled on the floor on top of the two naked figures who lay buried in the warmth of the covers… and each other.
“Jason, I have to get ready for work, so do you.” She was distracted a moment as she kissed him. “You gotta let me get up.” Though she was making no effort to let go of him.
“I most certainly will not. No. I deserve a day off and so do you.” he said with a grin. “C’mon, Hannah… write yourself a doctor’s note.” and he chuckled.
Jason
Hannah kissed him again and laughed very softly. “Mmmm…okay, but you still have to let me up so I can.” She kissed him again while feeling for the way out of the pile of blankets and pillows they were buried under. “Stay…right…here.” She finally found a corner and flipped the blanket back and she climbed her way out of the pile.
The sight of her walking naked through the house sent bolts of electricity through him. It was as if he was watching the future play out before him, her comfortable and in their home
It took several minutes to find her combadge in the cushions of the couch, finally finding it under the couch. It was a quick call and then she was back upstairs, wiggling her way back under the pile. “Well I’m off, but I have to have a check up later.”
Hannah
“Can I go with you?” Jason asked. “If thats too much, just say so. But I’d like to be involved,if you want me to be.” He adjusted the blankets, pillows, and himself so she could get back into the same position they had been in before she left.
Jason
Hannah settled right back where she had been and smiled. “It’s not too much. I would really like you to go.” She reached for his hand and laced her fingers in his. How had he put it? “You’re going to be the dad, so you should be there. I want you there.” She really did. Jason made her feel like it would be okay. If they really were going to do this, if they were together she didn’t want him to miss out on anything.
Hannah
“Then I’m going.” he said with some finality. He looked at her and then said “You know I’m kinds freaking out right now.. right?” and he chuckled. He kissed her and then said “But I’m not going anywhere.”
Jason
Yes, I know. Hannah blew out a nervous breath that was stolen as he kissed her. She stared into his eyes for long minutes. I’m glad. Me neither. She moved her hair out of the way and then adjusted her head slightly where her head had been laying pressed against her implant. “Is there anything you want to talk about or do before we have to go later?” They didn’t have to rush to get to know each other, but they kind of did at the same time.
Hannah
He thought for a minute and the said “Well… might as well address the elephant in the room. Who are you going to put on the birth certificate as the father? And… what do we do if Daniel comes back?”
Jason
Hannah’s breath exhaled heavily out her nose. “I guess that depends on what you want. Do you want to be on the birth certificate?” She rolled onto her back, but still pressed close against him, and stared up at the adult sized blanket and pillow fort they were buried under. “What do we do if?” A deep breath followed by a shrug. “That depends on what we do now. As far as the baby, if I simply put your name on the certificate a blood test could change everything. If we go the more legal route it shouldn’t be so bad, and nothing changes, unless you change your mind later.” The idea of Daniel coming back was upsetting her and making her more ‘matter of fact’ than usual. “I would never go after you for support, but if something happened to me, you would be legally responsible.” She turned her head to look at him. Hard realizations that Hannah knew but had been avoiding confronting. They hurt, but not nearly as much as she thought they would. “Besides we both know he won’t come back for me. He never did and he won’t. Even if he did I don’t want to go back to him.”
Hannah
Jason lay still for a moment. The idea of Hannah made his head swim, and he knew without any doubt she was the one.
But the kid…
He thought about it for a long time in silence. Finally, he said “You and the baby are a package deal. No man who commits himself to a woman knowing she is pregnant, his or not, has any say in what her choices are. But… if I want you… and I really do… then I have to do my best for them as well. So… if you are okay with it, and regardless of what the future holds for you and I… yeah. I want to be that kid’s dad. The most way I can.”
Jason
“Yeah, I’m okay with it.” Hannah was quiet for awhile staring at the blanket, thinking. She pulled his arm half over her, resting their hands over her stomach, her thumb moved over his hand. “Jason…I know it’s years before it will come up, but what do we tell it? Things like that always have a way of coming out.”
Hannah
He kissed the side of her head gently and said softly. “I have spent a lifetime keeping secrets and telling lies. And while the motivations are sometimes noble in doing that… it rarely ends well. So we tell them the truth. Their father and their Dad are two different people. Their father left you to do something he considered more important than his life with their mom, and you never heard from him again. You never even got to tell him you were pregnant. And then, just a few weeks after you found out you were pregnant, you met me. And thats when we got together and made a life.” He kissed her again and said “Thats what we will tell them.”
Jason
Hannah nodded and then rolled to her side and into his warmth. Apparently her stomach didn’t like her laying on her back, or maybe the baby just liked her being closer to Jason. It was a fanciful thought but that was okay. She kept thinking she was going to wake up, but despite all the uncertainty, Hannah would rather keep dreaming. Things would be okay, she had to know that, even if she was scared. Her voice was muffled slightly against his neck, “Any other big questions or small ones?”
Hannah
He thought for a moment and then said “Just one. When are you going to move in here?” and looked at her. “I mean, I got the place because you liked the view…” and he grinned.
