Sharah was exceptionally tuned to Eela for the time being. It was a fine line to walk. Shatah didn’t want to invade her privacy, but she was also aware of the extreme emotional strain she was under the the mental and physical consequences of that strain. So while she worked to not hear the thoughts she focused on the emotional storm around her friend and what she was feeling both emotionally and physically. Like a telepathic tricorder. So when Eela’s emotional state suddenly and dramatically altered with no obvious cause, Sharah was concerned. It dropped so suddenly, Sharah thought Eela might have passed out and she tore up thr stairs from the gym. It wasn’t till her foot hit the bottom step leading up stairs that Sharah registered that the overall emotional atmosphere hadn’t changed, just shifted location…to the Governor. That was unexpected and strange and Sharah had no idea what to make of it. In an intuitive way Sharah realized what Hyrushi had done, but concept and reality were different things. She paused both listening and feeling for a moment. They were both fine or appeared so and then they moved off into the den and Sharah turned back the way she had come.

(snip)

Kenzo looked at her and said “If that decision is a struggle, might I suggest asking yourself what you would tell your own daughter had she come to you with this same problem… and then do that.”

Kenzo

She jolted more upright, eyes wide, lips parted. Before she knew it, Eela was on her feet moving away, the need to flee reality still very much present in her body. She really hoped that subsided sooner rather than later.

Arms folded across her chest, Eela forced herself to take a breath. She hadn’t asked for any of this! But it was here. She didn’t want to be a person that needed a restraining order against her former spouse, to even have to consider having him arrested. But what transgression crossed a line too far? If it wasn’t what happened in her foyer, then what? How much pain was okay inflict? Her fingernails dug into her palms for a brief moment as she imagined Caridee in tears as lost as Eela was feeling right now. “I’d tell her to do whatever she needed so that she felt safe. So that she could move through her life with her head held high,” she said softly. The tears were back, tiny trickles rather than the torrents of earlier.

~Eela

Kenzo stood and walked over to her. He took her hands in his, and looked her in the eyes. “You are safe. And there is no reason to not hold your head high. You stared fully at your past… and you refused to bow to it. I, for what it is worth, am very proud of you.” he said softly, but wholly sincerely.

Kenzo

Eela gazed back at this man, this dear new friend who took in a wayward woman who was determined to make something of her new opportunity. She didn’t have to let herself be open to others here. Eela could have simply kept behind her hastily constructed guard layers and gone about her business. But that would have been a lie. It would not have been her. People saw who she truly was here because she had let them do so, and something beautiful had been happening ever since. Some days were really hard, because the work her and Kenzo did was demanding and required so much of them. But she had found herself enjoying even those harder days. They were very different people but it had been clear early on that they balanced each other well. They brought different skills and views to their demanding job and she had been honest the other day in his office about being so glad to have found such a dear partner in all of this. It made the hard times tolerable.

As he held her hands she was moved. There was no other way to phrase it. Eela took in the truth of his words and the strength he continued to offer and she nodded.

Slipping her hands out of his, she took in a deep breath. “I will see what tomorrow looks like. Tenkiller was right that it’s not necessary to make any decisions today. I’m so exhausted that I really should get some sleep at some point.” Thankfully there was a doctor in the house! She was certain she was going to need some help there. “Before you go though, I have a favour to ask.”

“I need something from my apartment. A book that’s in one of the crates in my bedroom. My friend Karilan from Quill & Parchment is going to help me unpack all of them, and will know what they are looking for. It’s a dark blue crate and inside a handmade book full of hand-written herbal medicine recipes from my father. It was a gift when I left for the Academy. To remember my roots and the wisdom of my homeworld. There are flowers embossed on the cover.” Eela gave a sad and lopsided smile. “There are some for cleansing concoctions and I think I’m going to need them before I can be in my apartment again. I have some evil energy to banish from my home and I am pretty sure Sharah and I can gather the ingredients.”

~Eela

“I will see to it. It will be here when you wake up.” He set his hands on her shoulders again, and another blanket of confidence and stability washed over her. “Now sleep. You are part of Oed, Eela. And as you well know… Oed cares for it’s own.” He gave her shoulders a squeeze and as quickly as he had arrived, he left.

Kenzo

For a moment Eela just stood there, letting his final gift seep into her deeply. She had a feeling she’d need all of that strength and resolve in the days to come.

Eela moved to the table and picked up the glass. One-third remained. Moving out of the den and back towards the kitchen, Eela found the back door and stepped out, letting the fresh air wash over her. She was definitely calmer than earlier, even if the impossibility of the decisions to be made still weighed on her. She lowered herself onto the steps and looked out over the landscape. She felt damned if she did, and damned if she didn’t. There would be unavoidable consequences if she took action against Cory, or let him be. It would signal a message and she had to decide exactly what message she needed to convey and what exposure she was willing to endure. She sipped on her smoothie, noting the sun was lower in the sky than she had expected. It must be getting closer to evening? How had that much time passed.

~Eela

The doornopened behind Eela and Sharah sat down beside her. A smoothie in one hand and a small tin in the other. She didn’t say anything she just sat with her.

Sharah

Sipping on her drink, she really wasn’t feeling like drinking it, but she also knew it would be bad for her later if she didn’t. “It’s not even night time yet but I am so exhausted. But my mind won’t be idle and I don’t think I’ll be able to sleep. I think I will need help with that.”

Sharah nodded, “I can do that for you. But if you don’t finish that smoothie, sleep help or not, Yavia will keep you awake, bringing you food until she finds something you like.” Sharah smirked with a laugh, “Trust me it is better to give in.”

She snorted. “Hence why I brought it out with me,” Eela said, making a show of downing the rest and setting it down next to her with a small thunk.

Eela looked over her shoulder in the direction Kenzo had left and she smiled softly before looking at Sharah. The first true smile she had given all day. “I’ve missed that feeling of family I had with Starfleet. But you know, strangely, between you all I think I found it again. It actually surprises me.”

~Eela

Shatah set a hand on her forearm, “Oh there is no think Eela, it is fact. You are family. You are welcome here for however long you need.” She held out the tin. “Salve for the bruise. Now do you want to sleep now? Or we can do something totally different if you want. We can make pizza and a movie or anything else. What do you need or want?”

Sharah

Eela took the tin and twisted off the lid. Rolling up her short sleeve, she very gently rubbed the ointment over the area which was still more red than dark, but she knew it would look different by the morning. It didn’t hurt all that much though. Massaging the salve in also gave her time to figure out what she wanted to do next. Eela honestly didn’t know. “I would love to be social right now and feel like everything is okay, but I need rest. Kenzo’s visit helped, and so have all of you, but I need this day to be over. I can face things tomorrow better if I’ve actually slept. So, how about we go sedate me now and I can forget for a small bit of time.”

~Eela

“Alright, come on.” She stood and offered her hand to help Eela up.

‘Yavia, luv, in my med kit, would you bring me a hypo with 60cc of Improvoline.’ Sharah received a quick mental affirmative and by the time Eela and Sharah had reached her room, Yavia was there with the requested sedative. Yavia gave Eela a quick hug and then headed back up the stairs.

Sharah waited till Eela was settled on the bed. Improvoline, worked quickly and Sharah didn’t want her to fall. “Get some rest. You are safe here. If you need anything, you just need to think my name. I will hear you.” She pressed the hypo to Eela’s neck and there was a soft hiss as the medicine was injected. Sharah left closing the door behind her. She returned the hypo to her kit and headed upstairs.
