“The celebration will be in a week Oed time.” Urg said. “You are welcome to join or send a representative. We would be honored for the presence. But know this: House Duroc will stand by House Noggra as an ally.” and he grinned at Noggra. “Whether or not that is an honor is up to you!” and he roared with laughter, as did Lord Noggra who banged his fist on the table so hard the screen shook. “We are united in purpose and now by blood! House Noggra claims House Duroc as an ally, as one of our own born to the House Noggra is now the FIRST Lady of House Duroc!” and he laughed louder still and then suddenly fell silent and looked at the screen.

“Reciprocal honor… gotta love it.” and the screen went blank.

House Duroc and Noggra

Jal’na looked at Urg. “I feel as if I am unaware of information. He is pleased though, and you are as well?”

Jal’na

“How could I not be?” he asked with a smile. “I have you. And soon we will have ten barrels of sooner of the finest Blood Wine. I am ecstatic.” He then said “So what do you want to do now? Move? Or do we need another fight to see who moves who?” and he laughed.

Urg

Jal’na grinned. “We do not need a fight for that. That apartment is tiny, and you would not be comfortable there. The furniture is much to flimsy to have fun with as well. Now would be a good time to move. Everyone is at the hospital or sleeping.” Then she looked at him, a look he would come to recognize very quickly, “We don’t really need a reason to ‘fight’. If you want one, I can move and then we can fight over how I am moving all of your things to make room for mine. Or that I have stolen a room for an infirmary, or our differing tastes in poetry.” Then she laughed.

Jal’na

Urg walked up to her and took her chin in his hand and held it firm, but not painfully. “The only reason I would want to fight with you is so that we could make up.” and he grinned wickedly. He kissed her, bit her lip, and then stepped away. “Moving. Let us get that done.” He tapped the bracer on his wrist and said “Get ten ready to assist Lady Duroc in moving her things from her old apartment to our rooms. And have a team 9n the ship ready to assist her as well.” He looked at her and said “Well? Go move. I will prepare your office here and also find a space for you to start a medical area.” and he simply turned and strode out of the room.

Urg, Lord Duroc

Office? She had an office, at work, she did not need....oh…yeah she supposed she did. For what she didn’t know yet, but there it was. Aaannnndddd he was gone before she could agrue she did not need TEN people to assist her in moving. Ten people standing about as she attempted to pack…there would be no room to move in her tiny apartment. She didn’t think she had 10 boxes of stuff to take with her. Well there was the chair.

She stepped out of his office and was met by a mixture of species, all wearing the crest of House Duroc and massive. She stopped. She really did not need 10 people’s help. How much stuff did Urg think she had. She refrained from dismissing them though. She would hate to slight them, and she remembered the pride in being chosen to help Lady Noggra. Perhaps that did not carry here though? “The apartment is quite small. I do not think we will all fit, but if you wish come along.” She headed toward the main door and was stopped. “Lady Duroc, the sliders are this way. Parked underground.”

A slider…of course. Changes. “Of course.” She turned and headed toward the back lifts of the embassy.

“You do not like the slider, Lady Duroc?” one of the men asked.

Bah! She was not ‘Lady’ she was just Jal’na. Well not any more she supposed. “I have no objection to the slider, really. I just never use them. I always walk.” She stepped into the lift…it was crowded. She had met none of these individuals during her tour the previous day. “Tell me who you are and your story.” Jal’na was usually good at such things, remembering those details people gave her. No time like the present to start.

Jal’na

Each gave their name and how they came to be in House Duroc in a very abbreviated fashion. Oh, there were stories to be told, that much was certain. Even more certain was that they took their role helping her very seriously.

As they approached the apartment in three sliders, one of the ‘aides’ said “It will easier, Lady Jal’na, if you simply tell us what goes to you and Lord Urg’thon’s room at the embassy, what goes to your room on the Kvaar’ton, and what goes to your office. You tell us, and we will get it there.” The speaker was a Cardassian female whose name was Kleing.

House Duroc Moving and Storage

Jal’na nodded and tried to take a mental inventory of her things. “No need to carry things to multiple locations.” The large group poured out of the three embassy sliders drew attention. Jal’na chose to ignore it as they made their way up the long walk. Inside the lobby was another thing. The guard smiled at Jal’na as she entered. “Dr. Sherko. Welcome back.” Then his eyes went wide at the 10 armored individuals entered behind her. Jal’na held up a hand before anyone could correct his address. She wanted to tell people herself, and that meant not telling the gossipy guard. It was what made the building so safe. Everyone shared what was going on.

She simply gave everyone’s names and said she was moving. It was well known that many people joined Lord Duroc, and he supposed it wasn’t odd for Jal’na to want to be somewhere more familiar. “You will be missed, Dr.” He waived toward the back. “Freight elevator is at the end of the hall to the left. One floor down are boxes and,” and he hoped he didn’t insult them, “sleds.” Jal’na nodded and took the lift to the 4th floor and all the way to the very end. The sound of them all walking echoed in the large hall. She was never going to get used to that.

She opened the door and in they all went…it was tiny they could all barely turn around. The living area was one large room that had a rather small counter with a replicator and sink. Not even a full kitchen, and then a sinle door, not even a hallway, to the bedroom. Jal’na almost laughed. It was absurd. “Kleing, perhaps you all could go get food while I pack. There simply isn’t enough room in here for all of us.”

There was a large blood red hand carved wooden chair covered in leather. The carving on the exposed wood was a familiar scene of the House Noggra lands. “The chair will go to my office.”

Jal’na, Lady Duroc

Kleing looked at her and set a hand on her shoulder. “Lady Jal’na. You are not used to this yet, but we are.” and she gave her a small smile.

Jal’na laughed, “No, no I am not.”

She looked past Jal’na and said “Fri. Gols. V’tren. Go get crates. John. Graq. Frey. Empty the closets on the bed and wrap up everything in the blankets. H’trig. Kitchen. Any dishes set on the counter.” She took her hand away and then yelled “And all of you back here for furniture! That means you, Fri!” and there was a round of laughter and everyone simply began found as she said.

She watched the three go into the bedroom, “Don’t wrap it. I need half and half. I will come do that after you empty the closets.” Urg may enjoy her being stuck one place or another with no clothes, she would not.

Kleing looked back at Jal’na. “Take this.” and she handed her a wad of bright red and wad of bright green putty. “Put the green on the things going to the ship. Red for embassy. What you lack we will buy. And,, if I may be so bold, when it is time for you to select your aide, please keep me in mind. It would be my honor to serve.” and she turned and began directing the crew.

House Duroc

Jal’na looked at Kleing. She needed an aide? She ran the entire physical and occupational therapy department for Sacred Heart for a colony of 4 million. She didn’t have an aide for that…she was so out of her depth as the humans said. Jal’na nodded and smirked a little. “Thank you, Kleing. I would be honored.” She laughed, “I have everything I need. There is nothing lacking.” Though she supposed of there was anythi g she wanted, Urg would make sure she had it. But needs and wants were very different things.

Then she turned as H’trig started pulling everything out of the kitchen. “No. Just that one cabinet on the left. Everything else stays with the apartment. What is in the chiller can be taken to Kishet.” She looked at Kleing again. “The furniture stays as well unless I tag it. These apartments come furnished.”

She marked the few pieces that were hers and then of course her personal items before moving into the bedroom. John, Graq, and Frey had two black keys out and everything on the bed. They were staring at the dresser wondering who was going to empty it. Jal’na laughed loudly. “Out! I will do it.” She had everything emptied and the clothes separated, bundled, and marked. She lifted them and set them in the living area, which was empty a lot faster than she expected. Her life here was done. This felt much more significa t than when she left Q’onoS. Fitting she supposed. She nodded to Kleing. “That is the last.”

Jal’na

Kleing nodded and turned and said “Load! Take all back to the embassy. Transporter room for ship tags, Lord Duroc- Lord and Lady Duroc’s chabers for the rest. Go, slugs! Move!” and the crates, bags, and bins were outside in less than two minutes. Kleing looked at Jal’na. “My lady… you need clothes. And weapons. Are you trained?” The question was asked quizzically, but with no judgment.

House Duroc

“Kleing, I have clothes. More than I need probably. But I am aware I will need to make some adjustments. When I am not at home, I am at work, and there I have a uniform.” Then Jal’na shook her head. “I can claim only that I was given training, not that I am. I have no aptitude in that regard.” Jal’na closed the door behind her and put the key card in her pocket. She would deal with that tomorrow at work.

Jal’na

Kleing looked at her and then smiled. “Oh you really are not used to this.” and she chuckled. As they walked down the hall, Kleing said “My lady, I mean formal clothes. House Duroc participates in many formal events. You will be expected to attend those, I am sure. You will also need armor, although I am quite certain Lord Duroc will see to that himself. As far as weapons, you will need a blade and the knowledge to use it; and a disruptor or phaser, your choice. I will request Lord Duroc allow me to train you. This is not pagentry, my lady. House Duroc is a target of many. You will need to learn to protect yourself.”

House Duroc

“I am a department head at the hospital, Kleing. I have attended many formal functions, and know how to purchase such items when necessary.” In fact Jal’na had plans for such purchases the next afternoon. She would be sure to aquire a few. She nodded at the mention of armor and weapons. They hadn’t discussed it but it was somewhat of a given.

At the mention of the danger Jal’na stopped, turned and crossed her arms. She spoke quietly, calmly but firmly, “I am quite well aware of the danger and the risk. Even to those not affiliated with our house at all.” Seja had many months of therapy ahead of her. “Many have been in my care because of the danger to our house. I may not be proficient or trained, but that does not equate to unwillingness or being blind to reality. I am aware I am a liability. I have no intention of staying that way.”

Jal’na

Kleing bowed her head and said “Lady Jal’na, I meant no disrespect. Nor did I wish to imy you did not understand the dangers House Duroc faces. I was merely trying to help you establish such thoughts in the forefront of your mind. And I know you are no liability, my lady.” She looked up with her eyes though her head stayed bowed.

“None who carry the name Duroc are ever such.” she said with a fierce pride that was positively palpable, and then she looked back down.

House Duroc

Jal’na was so bad at this. “Kleing, raise your head and look at me.” Jal’na hated that. Bowing heads as if some people are better or beneath others. She waited for her to do so and set a hand on her shoulder. “I am not offended. It will take much more than you reminding me of reality to do so.” She dropped her hand and nodded, “My life has been a peaceful one. And looking for danger will be something I will have to learn to live with. The alternative is too final for my liking.” Jal’na snorted a laugh, “A liability to House Duroc, no. In a fight, most certainly. I am not afraid to admit where my weaknesses are. I tell you because you must know if you wish to be my aide. It is a weaknesses I will do my best to improve. At the very least it will give people something entertaining to watch, and will make my husband scream in frustration.”

Jal’na, this Lady stuff is hard

Kleing looked at Jal’na and said “That isn’t how you made him scream before.” and she grinned slightly and then looked away to bark orders at the others they had reached.

House Duroc

Jal’na roared with laughter a d slapped the woman on the back. “It’s called the honeymoon stage, Kleing. He hasn’t lived with me yet.”

Jal’na

It was only about an hour later that all of them were back at the House Duroc embassy. The crates and bags were sorted and sent to their respective locations. As the lift from the garage opened, Urg was standing with arms crossed, waiting. “Are you moved yet, wife?” he asked.

Urg, Lord Duroc

Jal’na looked at him as if confused for a moment, “Oh…no. There is * a lot* and I got tired and decided to come back and take a nap.” There was a twitch at the corner of her lips and and a soft teasing purr at the end of ‘nap’.

Jal’na

“Typical.” Urg said with a similar twitch. “Give her a taste of the good life and she becomes a Risian.” and then he grinned. “Welcome home, my wife.” and he stepped forward and scooped her up and kissed her before setting her slowly back down. “You were missed.”

Urg, Lord Duroc

The grin took over her face when his mouth twitched. “I am happy to be home, Husband.” She could have kissed him much longer if not for the coughs and people trying to move past them to go a out their work. With her feet back on the floor she looked up at him, “I like when you miss me.” And winked at him.
