“No, stand still.” She took her hands and helped her up. “You don’t want to bend over and lose your balance on the slick floor.” She hurried into the other room where she knew Eela left her shoes and came back and knelt down holding the shoes still for her. “Use my shoulders if you must.”
Of course that was the reasonable path forward, but her thoughts kept twisting. Picking up the flowers gave her somewhere to focus, something to go. Eela placed her hand on the Klingon’s shoulder and slipped one foot into her flats, then the other, feeling all that core work they had been doing actually being useful.
She stood, “I am going to move you out of this mess.” Jal’na was a lot stronger than she appeared, even for a Klingon. Not anywhere near the surprise that was her mate, but Jal’na lifted patients and held their weight many times. It was necessity. She put an arm on the woman’s waist away from the damage in her back and basically lifted and swung her slightly, a foot or so away from the glass and water. “Herb, will you please,” she pointed at the glass shards.
Having braced her arm on Jal’na’s shoulders, the motion was smooth and Eela felt her feet touch ground again, touch safety. Or what was left of it in this moment.
Jal’na walked Eela into the living area and then sat her down. Out of her bag came. PAdD, tricorder, and dermal regeneator. She took pictures of the marks, scanned the mark for damage and let the tricorder take a DNA sample. Then she healed it.

Eela pulled her arm away from the dermal regenerator. ” No,” she said quietly. “Leave it.” She gazed down at the pressure point from his thumb and stared at it. Perhaps it wasn’t reasonable, but in the next hours as the reality of the situation settled on her, she would need that vivid reminder so that she wasn’t lulled into apologizing for him, into letting him off the hook. But hadn’t she already done that?
Jal’na nodded and put the device away. She understood, it would heal on its own, anyway. If that was what Eela needed then she would have it.
Pushing herself to her feet without her brace (she didn’t wear it immediately before physio), she moved to the full height windows that looked over her patio, and then began to pace.
After a moment she stopped at looked at Jal’na, panic settling over her body. Her chest felt tight. “I can’t stay here right now. The energy…” she whispered. For an empath it lingered and he had tainted what was supposed to be her sanctuary. It felt suffocating within these walls. “I don’t feel safe in here right now.” But there weren’t a lot of places she could go. Kenzo’s was an option and she knew he wouldn’t hesitate to let her be there. He also knew a tiny bit of the complicated end to her marriage. But he didn’t know the full of it. No one did. Sharah was closer to it when she had revealed those thoughts that dogged her and she couldn’t make sense of. “I need to go somewhere else. Kenzo’s maybe. Or Shara’s is safe but I don’t even know if she’s working and for all I know she’s out right now, and I don’t want to invade her space.” She was rambling, but it was either that or silence. There didn’t seem to be room for middle ground right now. Or at least very little of it.

Jal’na stood and walked over to her, “Alright. Come.” She led her into the physio room where they put the brace on and then Jal’na led her into her room, “Pack a bag for a few days.” She stepped into the hall. “Herb have the car pulled to the side entrance. Get one of the Lt Gov’s guards to go with us. We are leaving.” They always used an unmarked car when Jal’na had appointments so that her position didn’t draw attention to her patients.
It was strange. There were moments, like pulling her arm away where she needed the autonomy over her situation, but then she also needed someone to just tell her what to do, lead about like a child because her mind was struggling to make decisions. With the brace providing the reassuring contact she was at least standing upright, though she was having a hard time looking up. Everything in her body felt heavy. But she moved about her large master suite, tossing items into her well worn duffle. It was dark blue with the Federation emblem emblazoned on one side. It was the same one she had carted about with the Diplomatic Corps, her go-bag. It was the same one she had been packing the night Cory told her not to come back if she left.
As if her thoughts summoned her, and they did, Sharah’s pressence was felt like a gentle hug. ‘Come you are always welcome.‘
Then Jal’na’s comm beeped and she answered it. How Dr Fayth knew she didn’t speculate. She looked at Herb. “We are going to Major General Tenkiller’s home. Then call the embassy tell only Lord Duroc. I am fine but my patient is not and why. We will return later when she is secure.” He slammed a fist to his chest and exited the room. She stepped back into the bedroom. “Ready? Let us leave this place. Dr Fayth is expecting us but if you do not wish to go there I will take you to the embassy.”
Jal’na, Lady Duroc
Eela looked at Jal’na and took an extra moment to process before she nodded. “Let’s go see Sharah,” she said quietly as she tucked her earpiece and comm device into the side pocket of her bag out of habit. It was always with her these days.
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
Jal’na nodded and took the bag. One of Eela’s guards was outside the door, and called down to Herb and she nodded her thanks. They took the back lift down to the side entrance. Herb opened the door allowing both women in and he and Eela’s guard climbed in behind them. It was a 20 minute drive to the edge of the dome where Sharah lived with Tenkiller and Yavia.
Had she had a better presence of mind, Eela might have stopped to at least reassure Ensign Haskins about the situation. He had done his job perfectly. It wasn’t his nor her fault that the situation had tumbled so strangely out of hand.
As they flew over the colony, Eela was silent, her eyes studying the scenery. She had been a variety of places but had yet to have covered the whole of the main settlement. She still really wanted to do that. Finding the time was another matter. And as they got farther and farther from her apartment, her mind became increasingly clearer, or at least the weight of that negative energy was slowly dissipating.
The house was a low, bungalow looking structure in a quiet and well-appointed neighborhood with tons of trees, flowers, and plants. The car slowed and turned onto a driveway that dropped down and around the building. To say that the place was ‘secluded’ was an understatement. From the residential road above, only part of the roof could be seen. The front of the house faced a short, terraced yard that had plentiful trees and ground cover, with a small, winding path of stairs that went up to the road to allow visitors to walk to the front door. The car pulled around behind the structure, and it was then apparent it was a split-level dwelling. There was a three level deck built onto the back of the house. Large windows seemed to make almost every exterior wall, and the grounds behind the house were lush and seemed to go on forever. Trees stood tall and their limbs provided shade over a good portion of the property, but there was a large, open yard with well maintained grass in the back.
She didn’t know Tenkiller very well on a personal level yet, but knowing Sharah lived here, something about it made perfect sense.
The car pulled to a stop and Herb got out first. Sharah and Yavia were both standing by the back door. The back door was made of a stone-looking material and the frames around the windows were dark red wood under the faux-slate stone roof. Jal’na excited the car and led Eela up the three broad, wide steps and the door swung open inwards. Sharah took Eela in a hug and then led her inside.
Eela still didn’t have words, but she knew she didn’t need them. Emotionally though, she felt numb as she followed Sharah inside.
Inside was stunning. Huge open spaces surrounded by windows. On a table near the door sat a Cherry Blossom Bonsai tree. She touched the leaves gently as she passed. The few walls in the place were transparent. A large sitting room with a walk-around fireplace flowed into a smaller den area. Opposite from that direction from the door was a massive kitchen and dining area, as well as a full bar. Past that was a flight of stairs that led to the lower level of the house… probably the sleeping areas.
Sharah led them all into the den telling the guards to be at home and help themselves. Not that she expected they would, but that they too were welcome. She led Eela to the large couch and sat with her holding her hand, the other women taking a seat after Jal’na shut the door.
Jal’na, Sharah, Yavia
Touch or no, Eela couldn’t hide from Sharah, not that she wanted or needed to. But she couldn’t look at any of them just yet. She squeezed Sharah’s hand, the first response she had given her friend. As much as she wanted to tuck away all that hurt and confusion, it would be pointless in this room, with these women. But that moment of pain when he grabbed her, their mutual shocked expressions, all was etched deeply in her mind. She’d been replaying that moment over and over, trying to make sense of it.
Sharah didn’t ask. She didn’t need to. Eela was thinking about it over and over, it was easy, clear even, to hear and feel all the details. Sharah seethe with anger for a man she had never ever met. But Sharah kept it firmly locked away and breathed out comfort. Eela did not need her anger. Jal’na pulled out her PaDD and tricorder. Sharah glanced at both and in quick order it was all scent, securely, to her console for a formal incident report. She mouthed a quiet thanks to Jal’na. The anger coming off the Klingon PT made Sharah feel better in a way over her own anger. Yavia, well she was a rather talented empath herself and didn’t need to know more. She slipped out of the room for a few minutes.
Seconds, minutes, it was hard to say how much time passed before Eela could even form words. She slowly shook her head as she lifted her head, silent tears slipping over her cheeks. “I… I just…” And just like that the words were gone again. Hands still in Sharah’s, she bent forward, resting her free arm on her thighs, her hand holding her head. “I don’t understand,” she whispered as shivers overtook her body.
~Eela
Yavia had returned, with a hot herbal tea from Delta that she swore by. She poured for them all. Jal’na spotted a blanket and retrieved it and wrapped it around Eela’s shoulders.
“You can’t understand it. You aren’t like him and he is not like the man you knew so long ago. Do not try to understand him, Eela. He doesn’t deserve it, but more importantly, you do NOT and should not torture yourself with that. You did nothing wrong.” And she was engulfed in a very large 4 person group hug.
Sharah
Charles came up from the bedroom area where he had readied a room for Eela. He was in shorts and a t-shirt that said ‘I’m Huge In Japan’, but he carried himself like the Major General he was. He looked at the guards and said “Perimeter watch. One CCDA, one Duroc on the driveway. Rest of you, fan out outside till dark, then we will bring the perimeter to the house. Move.” and after a second, everyone did. He looked in the den and said “Room’s ready.” and then walked away. This wasn’t the time for a man to try and fix things.
