“And keeping in mind-” Hyrushi said as an aside, “- that not everyone is going to be pleased by your arrival. Security will need to be our first priority. We don’t want a repeat of the demise of previous administrations,after all.”

Kek looked confused for a moment and then his eyes went wide. “Oh… OH! No no no no no no, Governor. Those times are longs pasts! I assures you and your staff-“

Kek, Ambassador

Hyrushi held up a hand and a soft smile played across his lips. “Ambassador… it was a joke. I assure you I have no concerns about you or your delegation.”

Kek blinked twice… and then a riotous scream issued forth from him and he threw his head back and up. It took a moment, but it then became apparent…

The Vren was laughing.

“Oh oh oh… yous are a sneaky one, Governor. That… whoo… that made me very nervouses for a moment.” He calmed down visibly and then said “It is liberating, being able to laugh with ones like yous. ” and he took a moment to compise himself.

“Now as to mine arrivals. We are agreed that my peolles will arrive in one ship. My Senate mandates that we will be escorted to edge of Oed space by two ships. They will not crosses. Safety, as yous said. We will then follow an escorts to Oed and dock with your orbital platform. No ones allowed inside Vren ship, yes? We’s still negotiating and ship is Vren territory.”

Eela couldn’t help but grin a little. She couldn’t agree more with Kek and she also suspected Vren humour was more on the obvious side. Something to keep in mind.

“No one will board on your ship,” Mathis assured him. “But, we will all take the necessary security precautions, as I assume you will do as well.” Just because the Vren were the ones asking for help, didn’t mean they wouldn’t ensure their own safety as well.

“Ambassador Kek, one thing we have been discussing that we wanted to put forth to you is the idea of a social gathering to welcome your delegation. There would be food, and mingling. Music playing. It would be a chance for all of us to get to know each other before formal negotiations start and it will allow some highly vetted persons from the colony to meet Vren in person for the first time. My experience is that sharing food and conversation goes far towards building trust amongst people.”

Kek nodded enthusiastically. “YES YES. We were suggested that, too! Thank yous all. It would be Vren honor to accept such an invitation. We will bring Vren foodstuffs for banquet.” and he shook his head. “And not offended when few eat. Different diets for different worlds.” He was silent a moment and said “We have request. From Senate leadership.” He took a breath and said “Relocation of Vren nurseries. We fear more loss of our young. Oed has capability of construction of habitat capable of housing nurseries. We also for such to be built. Vren will live and attend to young there until hatcheds. Young will be sent back to us. Temporary until situation is remedied. And if not possible to rectify…” and for the first time the assembled people could see what a Vren looked like when heartbroken, “… then at least Vren children survive.”

Kenzo’s eyes went wide for a long moment. He composed himself and said “Ambassador, we completely understand your desire to protect uour children. As a person, I would have no issue with that. But as Governor… I will not say no, but that will have to be discussed when you arrive. And we will make that a priority item on the agenda.”

Mathis nodded slowly. “I’ll add it.” There were dozens of considerations to be made for that request alone and she knew it would be a tough one even if it seemed reasonable on the surface. Her and Hyrushi had been careful not to make specific promises and only communicate the information as they knew it. This would fundamentally change the way Oed saw the Vren presence. It was only supposed to be a negotiating contingent, but now they were talking long term presences. Good Lord that would be a mess to untangle.

“Are there other requests you can share now so that we can begin to form that agenda?” Jeanette asked.
