“Absolutely,” she said, grabbing another glass and mixing another of her concoction. The saava was a hard fruit to classify. It was not quite citrus and also rather sweet. But she thought it would go nicely with the stir fry. Topping both with the sparkling water, the fizz and jumping spray of the water made her smile. Such a simple thing really, but there was a child-like delight she had for those tiny sensory moments.
Taking both glasses to the round dining table that was a part of her more casual dining and sitting area, Eela took a moment to look out onto the balcony and she could see even the growth on certain plants from even the other day. She braced her elbow on the table and rested her chin on her hand, watching him cook, the sounds of work going on just on the other side of the kitchen. “You know, this is the most people I think I’ve had in here at once. It’s a bit strange,” she said with a chuckle. She was also resisting the urge to get up and help. Eela was well used to people doing things for her, but she had discovered since the accident her body preferred to be on the go, and certainly her work encouraged busyness. So it was just strange to sit and not be intentionally doing meditation or something else that encouraged to let it all go.

“Well there will be less and less as we go on.” Karilan said. “I expect it to be just Fen and I by the end of tomorrow.” They rounded the corner and came in with two plates with a generous amount of food on each. He set a plat in front of her and sat opposite. “And I must say, the crew that is installing the floor is absolutely amazing. They use a microtransporter to remove-” and they caught themselves and smiled. “Apologies, the engineer in me going googley-eyed for some of their equipment. I hadn’t realized I had been out of that work-world for quite so long.” They lifted their glass and said “To new friends and very old books.”

She lifted her glass and tipped her head down. “Cheers,” Eela said with a beaming smile, before taking a sip, pleasure traipsing across her tongue. Yes, it was an odd combination but she really did enjoy it.
Karilan took a sip and nodded after a moment. “Certainly odd, but in a very pleasurable way.”
Lifting her fork, she pointed it at Karilan, narrowing her eyes in mock-scrutiny. “And never apologize for loving something. The things that capture our fascination and excite us are a part of what make life so wonderful. “So, by all means tell me about what they are doing that you are fascinated with,” she said before digging into her stir fry, and giving a nod of approval. It was hearty and warm, bright and flavourful. Her soup would have been fine, but this was definitely nicer.

Thney smiled and said “Microtransporter. They use it to remove the material that would normally have to be cut away. So what would take traditional craftsmen days or even weeks to do, they can do in a matter of minutes. So the opening in your floor is already done and sealed. The stair way is going in now. As we speak, it should be done by day’s end. I have spent a few hours learning the device they use, and Fen is procuring one right now. With that, we will be able to fit the recessed shelves perfectly with minimal effort.” Their speech was growing more and more rapid with their excitement. The smiled and said “I have always enjoyed new toys.” and they laughed and then began eating.

She loved seeing and feeling that joy from them. And they had an infectious laugh that made her grin. “I mean, kudos to people for finding quick solutions to a bit of an uncommon working situation. It’s appreciated greatly and I can imagine they will be glad to not be under the watchful eyes of the agents.”
“And this meal is really delicious Karilan. Thank you for cooking.” Eela held up a hand. “And before you say something like no thanks are needed or it wasn’t a problem, just know that I’m used to taking care of things myself, especially these last few years. It’s been an interesting challenge to let people take care of my needs, even though I clearly need it,” she said with a laugh. She knew she was not great at looking after herself when things got really busy or stressful, but it was more than that. Eela was relearning how to express what her needs even were and not immediately anticipate them feeling like a burden on others, at best, or worse like they were unreasonable.

“We all need a bit of a respite every now and again.” they said with a smile. “And it was my pleasure to do it.” They took a few more bites in silence before saying “So how are you doing, settling in? I know things are probably vastly different than you are used to. But how are you feeling? About the transition and the new environment? And do not worry, I promise I do not spread gossip. You are my friend. I would not jeopardize that.”
