If it weren’t for her hair tied into a messy bun or her smudged eyeliner or the giant covered birdcage she was carrying, Ditka Starrrr would have looked like a Risan model on gym day, in sweats and an oversized tank.

She lumbered the birdcage, which rumbled with cursing and heavy fluttering noises, through the streets of Oed V, looking at all the street signs intently.

They were lost.

She’d managed to entice Hinky into his cage with lies about going back to Risa, but the bird was aware of the subterfuge. She thought that maybe–maybe–a professional could help them figure out this mess.

If only they could find the counselor.

-Ditka Starrrr, Guest Relations at the Golden Klaxut Market

Hinky was beyond beyond annoyed.

Picture it–36 hours ago, he was preening on a Risan palm in the sun outside of their old apartment building, and the next thing he knew, he was being invited by some very delicious fruit into a very claustrophobic cage and shuttlecrafted to… some place named Oed.

You’d be mad, too!

Sure, he might have used some choice words and called her a dirty evil birdnapper. And sure maybe he agreed to come. And sure, maybe it was just slightly cooler than Risa.

But enough was enough!

“Help!” Hinky cried, but in an old Ferengi man’s voice. From under the covered birdcage, it could have been Norb’s, Owner and CEO of the Klaxut Market empire. “I’m being rich Ferengi-napped! Haaaaalp!”

-Hinky, deviously

Several passerbies stopped and turned to look. One, a tall and burly young Andorian man, stopped and placed a large, muscular hand on Sitka’s shoulder. His voice was deep, and intentionally intimidating. “And what might you be up to, little miss?”

Ditka struggled with the birdcage and its cover, embarassed and stuck in the middle of the sidewalk.

“I–” she stuttered. It was so hard to explain. “I’m trying to find the hosp–“

Ah, an audience! Hinky thought to himself. He cleared his little rotten bird throat.

“She’s kidnapping me! Me, Norb of Klaxut Markets, the incredibly rich old Ferengi man!” Hinky crowed, flapping his wings and really giving it the anguish of a Ferengi trapped in a birdcage. “You know what? Get me out of here, good sir, and there’s latinum in it for ya! Piles of solid gold latinum!”

-Hinky, devilishly

Ditka beat on the side of the covered cage with her fist. “Excuse me, Mr. Andorian. I am very new to the colony. I have a very badly behaving bird who I’m trying to get to a therapist before he gets me arrested.”

The man did not seem convinced. He gave Ditka a good long look that said, Do you really expect me to believe that?

She dropped the birdcage on the street.

“You can unzip the cover and see for yourself. I’m just so, so lost.”

He unzipped the edge of the cover and peeked in. It was, as the woman had claimed, a bird in the cage. He gave Ditka, if possible, an even more disbelieving look.

She began to feel the frustration overwhelming her, rising through her throat, hot and salty in her mouth.

-Ditka Starrrr

“How about I escort you to the therapist?” The andorian suggested after a lengthy silence, complete with an intense stare at Ditka. “Make sure you’re… truthful.”

Hinky beat his wings against the cage. This would completely foil his plans.

“Take us to the police!” he said, still in his Ferengi voice. “She’s obviously a birdnapper. An unsavory person. A horrible, disgusting–“

-Hinky, spitefully

“–you better watch it, bird.” Ditka interrupted, rattling the cage. “Sir, please–yes–please take us to the hospital. He needs some help. He’s obviously not right in his little pea brain.

-Ditka

Keeping a close, suspicious eye on Ditka the while way, the Andorian lead Ditka inside the hospital, through its halls, up the lift, and to the psychiatry wing. “The receptionist can help you. Good luck to yourself and your.... friend.”

Meanwhile, Mika was at the hospital today, in her office, which still did not have very impressive chairs for her clients. She was taking appointments today, which she found much more relaxing than her other duties. Presently, she was with a patient, however judging by the way the appointment was going, Mika thought it might be almost over earlier than expected. Mr Takarian was not very happy with Mika’s view on his problem. It wasn’t uncommon, and Mika didn’t mind, though she did try not to make her patients angry.
