Fen shrugged nonchalantly and said that is up to Karilan. I’m here to learn from them as much as do the technical stuff.” and he grinned, as did Karilan. “I have a more-than-passing familiarity with Star Fleet Security. I am anticipating that in the time frame.” and they chuckled softly. They looked at Fen and said “Well? Go get the tools. Lets get measurements and start drafting.” and the young Antican scurried out of the room.

Massat

Eela couldn’t help but grin as Fren left. She turned in a circle for a moment and let her mind truly envision what this space might look like. “Just so you know, no matter how lovely you help me make this space, Karilan, I’ll still be coming by the Quill to work in my nook.” It really wasn’t her nook, but she automatically thought of it that was for reasons she was beginning to understand more deeply in recent days. It was about safety. To be herself, to be seen or not be seen as she chose. Here on Oed she was essentially on display and there could be many ways that it could work against her if she came across in the wrong way. But not in Massat’s beautiful shop. Not there where a treasure trove of information and stories resided next to fantastic coffee.

Karilan smiled and said “I would hope so. I’d hate to think that our work cost us the privaledge of your company. If that were the case, I would be forced to drastic means to ensure we could still speak. I might have to threaten to close down the coffee bar.” and they laughed. “Besides, there should be enough space in what we are building that you will be able to increase the size of your collection. So you will of course still need to come by.” and they smiled.

Massat

She chuckled. “Don’t tempt me or anything,” she said dryly.

A few days later, Eela arrived mid-day between meeting, determined to not only have lunch at home (she had some soup she could reheat from the other night) but also check on the progress. As she stepped into her foyer, she could hear the work going on and was grateful that they had agreed to have a hard end time of 1700 hours so that she could still do physio with Jal’na.

The CCDA had guards outside the door and they nodded at Eela as she came in. “Ma’am. Everything seems to be going well. Mr., uh… Ms. … um… Massat is in the kitchen.”

She gave them a small smile. “It’s perfectly acceptable to ask their preference when it comes to personal addresses.” Eela could have done so for them, but she thought it was good practice when living amongst diverse people to learn how to navigate these issues.

Normally Eela locked her workbag in her office out of an abundance of caution, especially when guests were about. Sensitive information was often at her fingertips and she took exceptionally cautious steps to avoid accidents with it all. Instead she put the bag in her bedroom (as good a place as any and on the opposite side of the apartment from the work) and proceeded down the lang hall to the kitchen.

Karilan was indeed in the kitchen. The apartment smelled of citrus and vinegar and herbs. Karilan was at the cook top with a large, deep pot-slash-skillet kind if thing… and they were cooking. They turned as Eela came in and smiled. “I do so hope you do not mind. Your assistant told me you were planning eating reheated soup for lunch. So I took a chance and thought maybe something a bit more substantial would serve. He said it would be fine.”

Massat

Eela laughed. “Yes, Cort would say that,” she said shaking her head. “I don’t mind at all.”

Moving over she peered at what he was working on. “What are you making and how can I help?”
