Eela gave a nod to Amelia, not wanting to exclude the other woman, though they didn’t know each other. But she also knew that by letting herself chat with others she was giving up a bit of anonymity the wig and unexpected garments afforded her. “Good evening,” she said warmly.
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
Amelia smiled and nodded back to the new arrival. She was merely a visitor at the Colony and she hadn’t been in town for that long. With more pressing matters in her hands, she had not really paid attention to OED’s political scene, so it would have been unlikely that she’d recognize Dasca, even in her usual attire.
Finishing a sip of her tonic water that had just been brought by one of the members of the staff, Amelia returned the greeting. “Good evening. I don’t think we’ve met before… I’m Amelia.” Usually, she would shake the hand of the person she was just meeting, but given the amount of people around the table and the number of patrons in the room, reaching out across the table could mean bumping into a few stray glasses and potentially spilling their contents. “I’m General Harris’s chaperone for the night.” She motioned to the man gleefully dancing away with one of the nurses. “Someone has to make sure he stays in line but if I knew his whole hospital staff would be here tonight, I wouldn’t have been so concerned.” Amelia offered Dasca a polite smile. “Do you also part of Sacred Heart’s medical staff?”
Capt. Amelia Manning
Yavia chuckled, “If we had known he was coming we would have made a bigger production out of it.” Yavia was outragous and it seemed everything she did was over the too, from having fun to caring for the ill. She gave all of herself and then some to it.
Eela grinned and touched her chest with her fingertips. “I’m Eela Dasca, and no not the medical staff, though I’m thinking it’d be a helluva. lot more fun tonight,” she said with a wink to Yavia and Sharah. “I’ve technically blown my cover now but I’m trying to not give my security detail a stroke. But Captain McBride insisted I get out and dragged me here and now I’m seeing the wisdom in his evil plan.”
Yavia smiled warmly, “It is a pleasure Ms. Dasca,” and she gave a playful wink. “And it is true, there is no wilder and crazier group than us.” Then she leaned past Sharah a bit and tossed her hair, “We won’t give your cover away. I’m here in disguise too.” Yavia was wearing a wig as well. Her goal to hide her Deltan heritage and not cause a scene…well too much of a scene.
“Oh good, it’s not just me!” Eela said with a laugh.
Sharah sat up some. McBride was here. Not that Sharah would ever engage in conduct unbecoming, but it was best to not let your CO catch you moping. Eela was technically in her chain of command but she she considered the woman a friend. She really shouldn’t have come. And as the drinks flowed the noise was becoming difficult.
As the song ended, Tenkiller stopped and picked up a bottle of something and took a long drink. He turned around and said something to the band and they all chuckled and he took another drink before turning back to the crowd.
“Every’body having a good time so far?” he asked and there was a roll of cheers and clapping from the crowd and Tenkiller smiled. “Good, good. Hate ta have y’all sittin’ through all this under duress.” and there was a soft laughter from the crowd. He started strumming and the other guitar player stared in to play.
The whole crowd cheered, but the table of nurses was by far the loudest. They all had a soft spot for Harris, he was a patient after all, but they all had a crush on Tenkiller in varying degrees. Who wouldn’t? After all they had to do was press a button and in a swirl of golden light he appeared and saved the day.
I got a half a six pack of Old Milwaukee
And a half a bag of weed
I can’t do it like I did when I was a kid
This is all I’m going to need
Because I know you always worry about me drinking my dinner
But I don’t do that anymore
I got me a sweet girl at home
She’s keeping food on the table
Every night she keeps me warm
and he winked at Yavia. There were wolf whistles and a lot of cheering and nudging and waggled eye brows aimed at Yavia. She even turned a little red. She smiled st him, waved her fingers at him, and then blew him a kiss. That got her teased even more. She really didn’t care.
So I’ve got me this piece of paper
And I got my favorite pen
I know it’s been a little while
And talking’s not my style
So I just had to write my friendHey I’m doing alright mama
I’m okay, I know your late night talks with Jesus
Have helped me on my way
I know it wasn’t always easy
Raising my father’s son
And your son will be alright
If the shows keep coming
This old guitar and me are still strumming
I know you always knew I always took it way too far
But I’m doing alright now mama
I’m doing alright now mama
I’m doing alright now mama
I’m doing okayYou remember the time I was stuck in L.A.?
And I didn’t have a job
And I didn’t have a way to pay the bills that I racked up
Yeah, you kept me from losing my truck
Yeah, I’m a little better off now
Than I was then but it’s sure nice to see you calling me when
I’m out there on the road
Yeah, you calling to say “have a good show”Hey I’m doing alright mama
I’m okay, I know your late night talks with Jesus
Have helped me on my way
I know it wasn’t always easy
Raising my father’s son
And your son will be alright
If the shows keep coming
This old guitar and me are still strumming
I know you always knew I always took it way too far
But I’m doing alright now mama
I’m doing alright now mama
I’m doing alright now mama

Tenkiller, VC-CCDA
Sharah didn’t even look at Yavia, but the nurse heard her clearly in her own head. ‘Yavia don’t you dare let that man get away. He is crazy about you.‘
The Deltan woman grinned and bumped shoulders with the doctor, ‘The feeling is quite mutual.’ She gave Fayth a one armed, reassuring hug.
Dasca grinned and cast her gaze between Tenkiller and Yavia. She did not know that about him, but now it just added to her intrigue about the man.
Oj’kiv, a Klingon nurse, slammed back her drink and looked around with a wicked grin. “Where is Harris? My turn! You girls are going too easy on him. This is supposed to be therapy!”
Yavia and the nurses
As the dancing couple approached the table, Harris chuckled. “I was wondering when you’d insist on your turn, Oj’kiv.” The former Marine spoke the nurse’s name in impeccable Klingon. ” Kissing Elaine on the cheek, Calvin looked at the Klingon with a playfully fearful smirk. “Do promise to take it easy… I have my masochistic tendencies but, dare I say, you are a bit stronger than Captain Holloway!” He then laughed, offering his hand.
Harris, CCDA
Oj’kiv laughed, “Some how I doubt that.” She dragged Harris onto the floor and kept him going at a quick pace. None of that mamby pamby swaying back and forth silliness.
Eela watched everyone on the dance floor, including Harris. She loved to dance, she jut didn’t do too much of it anymore, and when she did she had to be really careful. Those small things were sometimes the hardest. It was the recalibration of every damn thing in her life. She had been so used to being one to jump into the fray, with intention yes, but it could appear on the outside as recklessness. But Eela was rarely reckless. Still, she missed that bit of unexpected adventure in her life and she certainly wasn’t going to find it here on Oed with her security detail and chock-full schedule, and necessary public persona. Her glittery gold top was about as adventuraous as she felt she could be, even f she was still hiding beneath a wig.
The song Tenkiller was singing though, oh, it made her emotional. Her and Jourin had a complicated relationship and she missed feeling connected to him. It was hrad to admit that somedays she felt like he had sided with his father and that she was no longer someone he wanted in his life. It wasn’t entirely true, but threads of it felt like they were. And he barely spoke to her lately so it was hard to know what was real or imagined.
~Eela Dasca, Incognito Lt. Gov.
Sharah set a hand on Eela’s arm. Emotions were high tonight it seemed. “Eela sit, you don’t have to stand. There’s plenty of room.” She slid over a bit more toward Yavia making room.
Fayth, SFCMO
Eela went to protest but she cast a look over to the table where she had been sitting with Jon and waited till she caught his eye and gestured with her head. “Alright, then.”
As the last song faded, the band went right into the next.
I been high, I been low
I been wound up tighter than a hangman’s rope
I broke hearts, I been burned
Taught a lot of lessons but I never learned
I been good, I been bad
Been the best worst friend that you ever had

(Cody Jinks, ‘All It Cost Me Was Everything’ - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tC_nzCPa45k )Hand propping up her chin as she braced her elbow on the table, Eela shook her head. “He does have a great voice. Makes me miss karaoke night on the Steadfast,” she said. There was longing in her voice, but it wasn’t painful. Not anymore. But even that was surprising as she wasn’t sure when that had shifted.
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
Ilena returned from her last dance and grinned. “Oh I think Yavia dreams of his voice.” Elaine snorted and Shrine, the apparent group mother chuckled, “That’s probably not the only thing she dreams of.”
Yavia tossed a napkin at her, “Oh hush you.” Temple cackled louder and Jessie practically swooned, “You should have seen the way he kissed her outside our building.” Jessie picked up her water like the thought made her parched. Yavia turned red but grinned, “Lucky for me, he was kissing me and not Jal’na,” and that set the whole table laughing.
Eela felt the warmth and camaraderie at the table and she smiled with wistful nostalgia. It had been years since she had had any of that in her life.
After a discreet word with one of her security detail, McBride made grabbed their drinks and made his way over to the table. Normally, Dasca being in close to the crowd might be a problem, but if she wasn’t safe with this many trained people around, where was she ever going to be safe?
The casually dressed former pilot flashed the table a smile as he set Eela’s drink in front of her. “Well, good evening everyone. I see you’ve taken up my cause to force the good Captain here to have a little fun.” He smiled at Sharah. “Doctor Fayth.”
Sharah returned the smile, “Cpt McBride.” She glanced at Eela and back to the Cpt., “We are trying. Join us, though I warn you, hanging out with this group and being one of two men over here, might do things to your reputation.” Ilena grinned and nudged Sharah playfully. “We have to have fun some time.”
“You’re presuming you can tarnish mine,” Jonathan said with a wink.
Yavia chuckled, “That depends on what you mean by tarnish. We might improve it.” She nodded toward Harris, “I mean we’re making miracles for him.” The blue eyed nurse chuckled and then laughed more as Shrine and Temple started conspiring at a whisper.
“I’m Jonathan McBride,” he said. “I’m the new commanding officer for Starfleet.” As much as he had worked hard and earned his captain pips, it wasn’t like he had had a personality change. No, he was still that pilot with swagger and bright blue eyes and dazzling smile.
Captain McBride, Starfleet CO
Ilena smiled at him. “Cpt McBride. Glad you could join us.” Ilena hadn’t met him yet, but she was Star Fleet and was aware of who their new CO was.
He offered her his hand. “I’m still getting to match faces with names on files. And you are?”
Ilena held out her hand, “Lt Ilena Rox, chief surgical nurse. And that is Lt Cmdr Julie Temple, head ER nurse, and the Mrs Claus looking woman is Ms Amanda Shrine, the head nurse for the hospital.” She pointed to Yavia, “And that outrageous woman is Ms Yavia Crockett…well I’m not sure what her exact position is, but she’s the best nurse of us all and no one wants to mess with her.”
Fayth shook her head with a long suffering sigh. “She’s in charge of special cases.” Yavia grinned, “All to say they think I’m awesome.”
Temple and Shrine exchanged glances, “Oh! Another fly boy! I know that swagger anywhere.” They looked at Amelia and nodded to Harris, “Do you think they will get along or give us a show?”
Yavia and the nurses
And that was exactly what Sharah had meant. Shrine and Temple were both old hats, but had a love for antics. Fayth adored them both and so did the rest of the medical staff.
Fayth, SFCMO
“We could wager?” Eela said with a laugh, casting a mischievous glance up at McBride.
~Eela Dsaca, Lt. Gov.
Jonathan shook his head. “The others here might not be able to tarnish my reputation, but you Madame might do me in. Then again I did drag you out here, so I guess we could call it even.”
Captain McBride, Starfleet CO
Temple was an officer and didn’t know McBride well, but Shrine was civilian and had no qualms teasing him. “Careful there captain. That sounds like a dare. I warn you, these girls are a sucker for a dare.”
Fayth and the Nurses
McBride leaned in towards Shine and eyed Dasca with a conspiratorial look. “The good captain here might try to feign that’s she’s too proper for such things but I happen to know that she’s not adverse to fun and even getting into a bit of trouble. Go ahead and ask her about her cadet days,” he said, waggling his brows. “That and her sequinned top tells me she clearly wasn’t here to be on duty, so… I say we do our worst and see what kind of trouble we can all get into.”
