Oed V

Vren Homeworld - Message In A Bottle

The Ritual of Reconcilliation, know as Breeganthiss to the Vren, had been rehearsed over and over. It had to be perfect… not for the people of Oed, of course. They would have no concept of what was happening past the blurb of description they would be given. But to the Vren.. ritual was all-important. If the ceremony was done anything short of perfect, the Vren would not be bound by it’s message of apology and acknowledgement of wrong-doing. And Kek would simply not allow that to happen.

But there was a more pressing matter he was attending to today… that of the gift. The gift was the cornerstone of the relationship being built between the Vren and the Federation; and specifically the colony of Oed V. Griget had spent countless hours trying to determine what would best solidify the foundation he was trying to build, and to do that he poured over every single bit of information he could find or request about the colony. And finally, he hit upon the right thing.

Kek walked into the University biology department. He was immediately ushered into the lab where one of the Vren’s most prominent biologists was finishing loading a ceramic cylinder that had wisps of near-frozen vapor wafting from a pressure relief valve into a courier basket. The Vren scientist looked up and nodded at Kek. “It is ready, Ambassador.” Kek chirpped in exited approval. “And it will work? And no one tried to alter it?” The brown skinned with yellow markings frog-like scientist said “I received a visitor who wished to add a ‘fail-safe’.” and they closed the basket. “They did not like the response.” They looked at Kek and put a four fingers hand on Griget’s shoulder. “Trust. I am all too aware of what will happen to us should this fail. We need Oed. And they may not realize it, but they need us as well. This-” and he patted the basket, “- will bridge the gap between our peoples. Just make sure they get it soon. I am sure they will want to analyze it to ensure it is safe to use, but they need to activate it within their next month, or it will go inert and be worthless.”

Kek nodded and said “Thank you, my friend. I will ensure your efforts are recorded and celebrated.” The scientist croaked a negative, dismissing sound. “I don’t care about that. Just make sure we live so that this history can be known.” Griget croaked am affirmative and nodded once. He picked up the basket and turned and left.

It was three days later that a privately owned ship docked at Oed. A Naussican left the confines of the ship carrying, of all things, a basket. They made their way to customs, where a representative of the Colonial Government, a red-haired Asian woman, took the basket and walked away.
