“I’ll see what I can do. It makes no sense to go without one considering the continued growth of the colony. If we get any pushback I can talk to Dasca. This is one of those areas where she can advocate for us on a vastly different level.” Jon flashed her a smile. “It’s nice to have someone else to pass the buck to on occasion.”

Captain McBride, Starfleet CO

“And it is only supposed to keep growing.” She smiled, “I have met Lt Gov Dasca. I would not want to be the one to tell her ‘no.’”

McBride leaned in. “Lieutenant? Me neither… me neither.” His eyes glimmered with all the odd bits and pieces of stories he had collected doing the usual inquiries one did when in his position. The best part was that he was certain that what he had learned about Eela Dasca was only the tip of the iceberg and it only made him like and admire her more.

Sharah didn’t have the luxury of investigating before hand, but she did have her…her what? Curse, talents…she wouldn’t call it a gift, but it did tell her a whole lot about the woman. The more time she spent around Eela, the more she liked and respected her.

“Dr. Helaky, the civilian assistant chief of staff, and I have been talking. We want to start providing clinics at the different facility locations. Send a doctor or two and some nurses to do the standard physicals, walk-in sick clinics, and the like. The fact is that Sacred Jeart just isn’t big enough. But expanding or building more facilities is the purview of the DMSS when they arrive. So in the mean time, we thought that might help alleviate some of the strain. It wouldn’t be a bad idea either way going forward.”

The captain nodded. “We have the first aid room here, but there’s plenty of space to make a larger infirmary. I agree that a basic check in should strain a civilian hospital. Anything other than a 10 min basic check-in physical for someone without a complicated medical history can be done here and everyone else goes to Sacred heart.”

Sharah nodded, but then expanded, “That would take a lot of the strain off. Set up a small infirmary here or even handle all those on the Centurion. Sickbay is big enough. But Helaky and I weren’t talking just Star Fleet, but the orbital station for the CCDA, the mining facilities, the settlements popping up all over the planet, sending a medic or nurse with the teraforming groups, etc. Sacred Heart was originally designed to handle all the medical needs of the colony, from physicals to emergencies. The population is just too big now. We have, well mostly have, the staff but space is limited. Like I said, I don’t have the authority to create permanent locations, but we can make house calls as it were.”

Jonathan leaned back in his chair and nodded as he turned on an angle and crossed a leg over his knee. “Hmm, well I or Dasca can approve anything Starfleet related. But everything else will need cabinet level approval. You’re best talking with the Director of Medical Services. Even with a Chief of Staff in place, they’d have to have higher up approval for facilities elsewhere. Take it to them, and include dealing with Starfleet crew. The Lieutenant Governor and I will approve those portions and the Director can approve the rest. And we’ll see how it go, yeah?”

“As soon as one arrives. Rumor has it that someone has been selected for the positiin a d arriving soon.” It was possibly a moot point though. Sharah was aware she was filling in. She really actually enjoyed the dual position and if asked would choose to continue in that capacity. It wasn’t her choice though, nor had she been asked. Sharah thought about it for a moment. “Somewhere we can have roughly five beds would work for an infirmary and yearly physical station would work as far as the Star Fleet crew goes. I can have it staffed immediately. The rest I can work up with Helaky as a proposal for yourself, Lt Gov Dasca, and whomever the new DMSS will be.”

“Sounds good. If you can get the proposal to me by the end of the week, I can use it as a part of my discussions with HQ about related matters and take care of it all at once. Anything else we should cover today?” McBride asked.

I will have the proposal to in the next two days.” Fayth considered a moment. “No Sir, there is nothing else. Unless you want to get your physical and medical clearance out of the way while I am here?”

He flashed a grin. “I haven’t forgotten, promise, it’s just bene a whirlwind. But sure, we can do that. First aid room good enough or is there a better place?” In his pilot days, sure he had been a little skittish about
