At the archaeology wing, a vehicle was prepped to transport dig attendees to the site. Due to dirt composites at the site, transporters were unable to make it easier. Nathan didn’t mind though. It gave everyone a chance to intermingle aboard the large hovercar. Special equipment and belongings were traveling separately.

He was dressed in tanned breeches and light button up shirt with the top two buttons undone. The sleeves were rolled up to his elbows after having been busy loading up the equipment needed. There were some volunteers that helped, but he was the figure in charge. It was his job to lead the way and get as dirty as he needed. He grabbed a PADD from his office and strolled out to the guest hovercar, ready to get people aboard and ensure that they were properly prepared for the next 2 weeks.

A woman with long white blonde hair, braided and pinned safely up, wearing sturdy comfortable boots, cargo pants, and a sturdy work shirt, unbuttoned at the top, and sleeves already rolled up was standing by the car. She had a rucksack slung on her back, with various tools of the trade peeking out of pockets. Shebturned as he approached. “Professor Carlisle,” she held out her hand. “Ragna McKenzie. Pleasure to meet you.” Her voice carried a strong Nordic lilt.

Ragna McKenzie

Nathan smiled as he recognized the name from the list he had managed to put together. He had done some brief research on them all. “The pleasure is mine Mrs. McKenzie. If I remember right, you have dual bachelor degrees that might prove useful on a trip like this?” His smile was gentle as he sought to get to know her a bit better.

Ragna nodded, “Duel bachelors in Archeology and History, an’ years of experience building historical archives. I’m excited to stretch my skills. This is the first time digging in the dirt of an alien planet.”

Ragna McKenzie

Nathan gave a light laugh and replied. “Well that sounds great! I’m happy you’ll get the chance now. Every planet is different, the digs themselves often time vary from each other. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it!”

A ground car arrived and the rear door opened. A bald figure, obviously Deltan, emerged from the car. Tall and slender, the figure bent down and retrieved a canvas backpack. The trunk of the car opened and they went to the rear and pulled out two large, metal cases. Carrying them by their top handles, the figure approached and then set them down near the waiting car as their ride pulled away. They looked at McKenzie for a brief moment, inclined their head slightly in greeting, and then looked at the Professor. “Good morning, Professor. I am Karilan Massat. I hope I am in the correct place for the upcoming dig?” and they held out their hand to him.

Nathan recognized the species and made a mental note to keep any sort of empathic senses on the down low when directly involved. It was protocol for him when it came to deltans. He grinned and shook the offered hand. “It’s a pleasure to meet you Karilan Massat. You’re definitely in the right place. One care will be used to carry our equipment, so feel free to put any extra things you don’t need on you there. This other car will carry everyone to the site itself. How’s your bookstore business doing, if you don’t mind my asking.”

They smiled and said “Quite well. You should come by. We have quite the rare tome and folo collection. I would be happy to have your opinion on it.” They motioned at the car and the driver got out and put some bags in the second car. Karina looked back at the professor and gestured to the cases. “I brought equipment that may assist, if you want. Macrospectometer, portable ground-penetrating scanner, diamond surgical cutting wheel, and a few other odds and ends.”

“You certainly come prepared, thank you!” he replied with a grin. “We’ll get that equipment out and take a look when we get there. Feel free to take a seat in the passenger car. I’m sure everyone will be here shortly.”
