Dasca eyed the concoctions with a gleam. “My father would have been be positively giddy to see me embracing herbalism. I mean I always have, but in small ways.” She beamed at Sharah. “Thank you. I appreciate the effort you’ve put in. I’ll make sure to document my usage and the outcome. I know we’re both a fan of hard data when we can get it.” Though Eela also knew that even a placebo effect was welcome as it meant she was feeling relief in some way. It didn’t really matter how it happened so long as she was functional and there were as few negative side effects as possible. Anything that improved her quality of life at the moment was helpful.

“I do appreciate the data. Research always continues, but I do want you to know, these have all been put through testing and trial. They are not nearly as potent or concentrated as a hypo but they do work. If you are interested in testing new ones though, I can set you up with some trials.” There were always research trials going on somewhere in the hospital. It had amazed her when she first arrived. The nurses always reminding her to tell the patients about any that might be relevant. Even in the therapy departments there were trials. “Oh!” She reached into her bag and pulled out another bottle with a small dropper lid. “Make sure Jal’na and Reesa know you have this. And don’t let them sneak out with it. They are constantly trying to steal my supply and I can’t keep up.” Sharah laughed happily. “I don’t want to keep you though. I know you still have a long day ahead. But I have thoroughly enjoyed this break.”

Eela couldn’t help the grin as she picked up the bottle. “It’s been nice to have company for something that isn’t work related.” And it was true. She thoroughly enjoyed the out-of-the-office meetings she’d had with Kenzo, and her job could really be all-consuming, but it was nice to just have something purely social, with no other outcome than to enjoy another person’s company.
Sharah nodded. “It has. I think Saturday was the first time I have actually taken time to do anything not work related. I’ve enjoyed it very much, the work and the community, but it was exceptionally nice to take some time and just do something for fun.”
She wiggled the bottle. “What’s this one for?”
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
Sharah grinned and waved at the bottle. “It’s a deep tissue massage oil. It works best when you have someone to really work it in for you, or an area you can spend the time on yourself. It has a base of Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Then I infused it with with Arnica, Comfrey Root, St. Johns Wort, Cayenne Powder, and Menthol Crystals. Then I added Eucalyptus, Wintergreen, Lavender, Peppermint, Ginger and Frankincense essential oils.”

“Whew, potent! Use with discretion, got it,” Eela said with a grin. “I’ll get Reesa and Jal’na to try it at some point, though…” She caught herself and gave a rueful smile as she realized that no, Cory could not do that for her. But it wasn’t painful this time as she realized the slip. She just acknowledged it and let it go. But it was also the reality that it was the first time in her life that she had no one like that. Not her spouse, and no other partners as when her and Cory had been apart (theirs had been an slightly unusual arrangement). It had been hard to explain (even to herself) why she hadn’t sought out a companion as she always had, even after the separation. That one notable exception was held in a bubble and didn’t factor in, not as far as she was concerned. A part of her thought it was because she hadn’t been on her own entirely in forty years and she just needed to get used to how that felt, to be comfortable with it. But the reality was that she was Haliian, and while this wasn’t true of all her people, for many like Eela, physical connection and intimacy was as essential as breathing. This had been the longest she had gone in her adult life and it was… weird. “Though depending on where it is, I can work it into an area.”
“What sort of trials at the hospital are you thinking of?” Eela asked.
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
“Well I have a pet project. It has to do with using natural remedies for emergency care. Well that’s putting it very simply,” Sharah grinned, “But Oed doesn’t have vegetation to pull from, not yet. So I have been working on creating a small case with different blends to give to some of the mining sites and distant settlements that are popping up. It’s just enough for every day aches and pains. It wouldn’t cover for major stuff, they would still need a doctor. So we have different variations of all of these that we are blending to test their potency.”

“Interesting. You’ll have to keep me apprised on how it’s going. I love stuff like that.” She was a health professional at heart, even though life had led her in different directions. “And if there are any trials you think would be relevant to me, feel free to send them my way. I’m not eager to be an experiment, but this would feel vastly different than when I was first in recovery from my accident.”
“I will let you know. There is always a posting on the public network as well. And if anyone ever makes you or anyone else feel like an experiment, clinical trial or not, you tell me. I won’t tolerate that kind of attitude.” Sharah grinned. Such trials and experimentation were necessary, but that didn’t mean you removed the human element.
Eela finished off the rest of her tea. “I don’t want to end this lovely time but I really should get ready to go into the office. As it is I’m sure Cort has a list as long as my arm for me to attend to.”
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
Sharah nodded, “And I don’t want to keep you. I have not met Cort, but I am sure I don’t want him coming after me for making you late.” Sharah chuckled. “The irrigation system should be good for a week. The instructions are on the PaDD there.” Sharah stood and grabbed her bag. “Thank you for a lovely morning, Eela. I look forward to next time.”
