Harris kissed Jessie’s hand softly and winked before turning Elaine. “Yes ma’am…” The General beamed as he took her hand and led the woman on to the dance floor. He really was having fun.

Harris, CCDA

With a soft smile, Amelia watched Cal. It was nice to see him out and about, back to his old self.

Timing was everything and Eela had to weave through the crowd rather carefully in order to not get jostled around in a way that would hurt her back, but the music gave her a reason to dance her way over to the table at the front with the medical staff and Harris. But he was already swept away again and she couldn’t help but smirk.

Certainly at first glance she looked like just another person dressed up for a night out. And certainly no one who had interacted with her on a professional level would be expected the loose gold-sequinned top and wide flared black skirt with low heeled boots. Never mind the wig of black curls cut across her forehead that hid her forehead ridges rather adeptly. And makeup too!

That’s what made this so fun, because anyone who had spent more than a few minutes conversing with the woman knew that Eela Dasca was far more than met the eye, and certainly more than the stright-laced captain one might expect of her. So as she allowed people to see her, she looked up at the stage (now close enough to Tenkiller to see his face clearly) and gave a wink and a cheeky subtle salute with two fingers for his song.

Eela moved another step over to where Sharah was and reached out her hand, resting it on the doctor’s shoulder and stopped a bit. “How much do you want to bet he’d liven up our senior government meetings? Do you think he’d take requests?” she said softly with a distinctly tone of glee.

~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.

Sharah pulled back slightly and looked up and smiled slightly but genuinely. It was Eela. She should have felt the woman’s presence. She needed to pay more attention. It was good to see Eela was getting out. “Eela,” Sharah glanced at the stage. “Hmmm....he might. He’s a bit of a wild card. Yavia here might be able to convince him better than anyone.”

The Deltan nurse looked up and grinned, “Oh I am happy to ask. What do you want to hear? No idea if he’ll do it, but I’ll ask!”

Fayth

Dasca grinned. “I was teasing… mostly,” she said. “But I will keep that in mind. Nice to have an card to play when you need it.”

Eela gave a nod to Amelia, not wanting to exclude the other woman, though they didn’t know each other. But she also knew that by letting herself chat with others she was giving up a bit of anonymity the wig and unexpected garments afforded her. “Good evening,” she said warmly.

~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.

Amelia smiled and nodded back to the new arrival. She was merely a visitor at the Colony and she hadn’t been in town for that long. With more pressing matters in her hands, she had not really paid attention to OED’s political scene, so it would have been unlikely that she’d recognize Dasca, even in her usual attire.

Finishing a sip of her tonic water that had just been brought by one of the members of the staff, Amelia returned the greeting. “Good evening. I don’t think we’ve met before… I’m Amelia.” Usually, she would shake the hand of the person she was just meeting, but given the amount of people around the table and the number of patrons in the room, reaching out across the table could mean bumping into a few stray glasses and potentially spilling their contents. “I’m General Harris’s chaperone for the night.” She motioned to the man gleefully dancing away with one of the nurses. “Someone has to make sure he stays in line but if I knew his whole hospital staff would be here tonight, I wouldn’t have been so concerned.” Amelia offered Dasca a polite smile. “Do you also part of Sacred Heart’s medical staff?”

Capt. Amelia Manning

Yavia chuckled, “If we had known he was coming we would have made a bigger production out of it.” Yavia was outragous and it seemed everything she did was over the too, from having fun to caring for the ill. She gave all of herself and then some to it.

Eela grinned and touched her chest with her fingertips. “I’m Eela Dasca, and no not the medical staff, though I’m thinking it’d be a helluva. lot more fun tonight,” she said with a wink to Yavia and Sharah. “I’ve technically blown my cover now but I’m trying to not give my security detail a stroke. But Captain McBride insisted I get out and dragged me here and now I’m seeing the wisdom in his evil plan.”

Sharah sat up some. McBride was here. Not that Sharah would ever engage in conduct unbecoming, but it was best to not let your CO catch you moping. Eela was technically in her chain of command but she she considered the woman a friend. She really shouldn’t have come. And as the drinks flowed the noise was becoming difficult.

As the song ended, Tenkiller stopped and picked up a bottle of something and took a long drink. He turned around and said something to the band and they all chuckled and he took another drink before turning back to the crowd.

“Every’body having a good time so far?” he asked and there was a roll of cheers and clapping from the crowd and Tenkiller smiled. “Good, good. Hate ta have y’all sittin’ through all this under duress.” and there was a soft laughter from the crowd. He started strumming and the other guitar player stared in to play.

The whole crowd cheered, but the table of nurses was by far the loudest. They all had a soft spot for Harris, he was a patient after all, but they all had a crush on Tenkiller in varying degrees. Who wouldn’t? After all they had to do was press a button and in a swirl of golden light he appeared and saved the day.

I got a half a six pack of Old Milwaukee
And a half a bag of weed
I can’t do it like I did when I was a kid
This is all I’m going to need
Because I know you always worry about me drinking my dinner
But I don’t do that anymore
I got me a sweet girl at home
She’s keeping food on the table
Every night she keeps me warm

and he winked at Yavia.

There were wold whistles and a lot of cheering and nudging and waggled eye brows aimed at Yavia. She even turned a little red. She smiled st him, waved her fingers at him, and then blew him a kiss. That got her teased even more. She really didn’t care.

So I’ve got me this piece of paper
And I got my favorite pen
I know it’s been a little while
And talking’s not my style
So I just had to write my friend

Hey I’m doing alright mama
I’m okay, I know your late night talks with Jesus
Have helped me on my way
I know it wasn’t always easy
Raising my father’s son
And your son will be alright
If the shows keep coming
This old guitar and me are still strumming
I know you always knew I always took it way too far
But I’m doing alright now mama
I’m doing alright now mama
I’m doing alright now mama
I’m doing okay

You remember the time I was stuck in L.A.?
And I didn’t have a job
And I didn’t have a way to pay the bills that I racked up
Yeah, you kept me from losing my truck
Yeah, I’m a little better off now
Than I was then but it’s sure nice to see you calling me when
I’m out there on the road
Yeah, you calling to say “have a good show”

Hey I’m doing alright mama
I’m okay, I know your late night talks with Jesus
Have helped me on my way
I know it wasn’t always easy
Raising my father’s son
And your son will be alright
If the shows keep coming
This old guitar and me are still strumming
I know you always knew I always took it way too far
But I’m doing alright now mama
I’m doing alright now mama
I’m doing alright now mama
I’m doing okay

Tenkiller, VC-CCDA

Sharah didn’t even look at Yavia, but the nurse heard her clearly in her own head. ‘Yavia don’t you dare let that man get away. He is crazy about you.

Oj’kiv, a Klingon nurse, slammed back her drink and looked around with a wicked grin. “Where is Harris? My turn! You girls are going too easy on him. This is supposed to be therapy!”

Yavia and the nurses

As the dancing couple approached the table, Harris chuckled. “I was wondering when you’d insist on your turn, Oj’kiv.” The former Marine spoke the nurse’s name in impeccable Klingon. ” Kissing Elaine on the cheek, Calvin looked at the Klingon with a playfully fearful smirk. “Do promise to take it easy… I have my masochistic tendencies but, dare I say, you are a bit stronger than Captain Holloway!” He then laughed, offering his hand.

Harris, CCDA

Oj’kiv laughed, “Some how I doubt that.” She dragged Harris onto the floor and kept him going at a quick pace. None of that mamby pamby swaying back and forth silliness.

Eela watched everyone on the dance floor, including Harris. She loved to dance, she jut didn’t do too much of it anymore, and when she did she had to be really careful. Those small things were sometimes the hardest. It was the recalibration of every damn thing in her life. She had been so used to being one to jump into the fray, with intention yes, but it could appear on the outside as recklessness. But Eela was rarely reckless. Still, she missed that bit of unexpected adventure in her life and she certainly wasn’t going to find it here on Oed with her security detail and chock-full schedule, and necessary public persona. Her glittery gold top was about as adventuraous as she felt she could be, even f she was still hiding beneath a wig.

The song Tenkiller was singing though, oh, it made her emotional. Her and Jourin had a complicated relationship and she missed feeling connected to him. It was hrad to admit that somedays she felt like he had sided with his father and that she was no longer someone he wanted in his life. It wasn’t entirely true, but threads of it felt like they were. And he barely spoke to her lately so it was hard to know what was real or imagined.

~Eela Dasca, Incognito Lt. Gov.

Sharah set a hand on Eela’s arm. Emotions were high tonight it seemed. “Eela sit, you don’t have to stand. There’s plenty of room.” She slid over a bit more toward Yavia making room.
