Kenzo sat and set the tea on his knee after taking a sip. “I didn’t. I never applied. I was asked after my name was floated as one of the final candidates.” and he chuckled slightly. “I harbor no delusions about me being selected because I was wanted. Rather, I am of the opinion that many were hoping that Oed’s reputation for losing Governors would rid them of an unwanted issue. I am nothing if not a remind of the past failings of the Federation Senate.” and he sipped his tea,

She gazed at him for a moment and nodded. They were brought to this place in similar ways for different reasons. “But you didn’t have to even consider the notion of Governorship. What made you do so?” Dasca asked, sipping her tea and letting it relax her.
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
“I felt it the best way to help the most people.” Kenzo said flatly. “I firmly believe that if more government administrators had backgrounds in civil engineering… the mental health fields… social work… logistics and finance… instead of being career politicians; much more could and would be done to better the lives of those in their charge.” He took a sip of tea and then said “Instead, we have governors and magistrates whose highest priority is the next election cycle. It breeds inefficiency, selfishness, and corruption. I took the job specifically so that Oed V didn’t have yet another seat-filler. Not to say my immediate predecessor was such. Of all the past Governors, I believe he tried the hardest.”

Her fingers tips rested in the side of her cup, absorbing heat. There was always that tension between the deep soothing of heat and that threshold of pain from keeping them there too long. Then again, Eela had an incredible pain tolerance, built up over the years. Finally, she moved her fingers, tapping them. “I do find it interesting that we both come from those kinds of backgrounds. Not that there isn’t politics in Starfleet, but it’s very different, even for a career officers,” she said, smiling softly. “For what its worth, while you and I still have to deal with the politics surrounding those that appointed us, I agree that not having to worry quite as much about it being a popularity contest allows us to do more meaningful work. Not that public opinion doesn’t matter. In fact I’m still trying to get used to that. I’m not accustomed to having to care much what people think of me. It’s a little jarring.”
~Eela Dasca. Lt. Gov.
“If you feel it jarring now, I am curious how it will feel after your first assassination attempt.” Kenzo said with a small smile. He took a sip and then set the cup aside.
“If I may be so bold as to offer you a bit of unsolicited advice” he asked rhetorically. “Care less about ‘people’ think and focus on doing the best job you can for the people. No matter what, people are going to love and despise you… and sometimes they will do so simultaneously.” and he chuckled. “I have a pr8nt of a letter sent to me by one of our citizens. I had been here… oh… eight or ten months. The letter indicated their extreme dissatisfaction with my performance as Governor because, quote, ‘My friends and I meet every morning at Salishi’s Diner to talk about politics and try to figure out how to get you people to listen. And NOW that you got here, we are so angry that you haven’t given us reason to complain. DO YOUR JOB!’ End quote.” and he chuckled again. “I went to that diner, by the way. I sat with those people and ate breakfast. They were legitimately angry at me because they didn’t have reason to be angry with me.” and he shrugged.

Eela laughed aloud and had to steady her body so she didn’t spill her tea. She sighed, shook her head, and sipped her tea. “The way I see it, I’m going through some growing pains. It’s just going to take some time to feel my way through things. So I will take your advice to heart and try to keep it in mind on the days when It feels like an uphill battle.”
She gazed out the windows over her patio towards the nighttime skyline visible through the transparent patio walls. “It’s beautiful here at night. And I can say that having lived in Paris. They don’t call it the City of Lights for nothing,” she said, turning back to him with a smile.
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
Kenzo picked up his cup and took a sip. But right before the cup touched his lips, he said very softly “Paris pales in comparison.”
Kenzo
She sipped her tea and then smirked. “I’d be tempted to start a debate, but as I told you in our first meeting, Paris never felt like home. I liked being there and the history was immersive, and there is a particular feeling of living and working in close proximity to where the Federation Council conducts its business. But… I still felt like a visitor there, and I know that was more about me than the place, but still, I look out over this cityscape and I don’t mind admitting that it thrills me a little. Especially when I look out past the confines of the old dome and imagine what the planet could look like in twenty, fifty, a hundred years. I think about my granddaughter and the place she might visit, or hell, even possibly live, and it is exciting.”
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
“Oed is a lens to look at the future.” Kenzo said, looking out over the city. “Everywhere you look is potential. And it overflows with a drive to see that that future is a good one for everyone here.”
Kenzo
They might be coming at the work from a different angle and experience but over this week increasingly Eela felt like they were on the same page, that the vision of the future for Oed, if not looked the same, felt the same. As she sipped the tea, Eela felt a sense of peace flow over her but more than that was that similar feeling she kept having ever since she met that mystic. It was like she was being guided down a path she hadn’t expected and all she could do is trust it wouldn’t lead her astray. “Do you think you’ll stay here, long after you are done being Governor?” she asked.
~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
Kenzo’s brow furrowed slightly. “To be honest, I have not thought about that at all. I honestly do not know.” and he turned his head and looked at her. “I suppose that would depend on how much terraforming us done in that time.” and he chuckled softly.
