Kenzo sat and set the tea on his knee after taking a sip. “I didn’t. I never applied. I was asked after my name was floated as one of the final candidates.” and he chuckled slightly. “I harbor no delusions about me being selected because I was wanted. Rather, I am of the opinion that many were hoping that Oed’s reputation for losing Governors would rid them of an unwanted issue. I am nothing if not a remind of the past failings of the Federation Senate.” and he sipped his tea,

Kenzo

She gazed at him for a moment and nodded. They were brought to this place in similar ways for different reasons. “But you didn’t have to even consider the notion of Governorship. What made you do so?” Dasca asked, sipping her tea and letting it relax her.

“I felt it the best way to help the most people.” Kenzo said flatly. “I firmly believe that if more government administrators had backgrounds in civil engineering… the mental health fields… social work… logistics and finance… instead of being career politicians; much more could and would be done to better the lives of those in their charge.” He took a sip of tea and then said “Instead, we have governors and magistrates whose highest priority is the next election cycle. It breeds inefficiency, selfishness, and corruption. I took the job specifically so that Oed V didn’t have yet another seat-filler. Not to say my immediate predecessor was such. Of all the past Governors, I believe he tried the hardest.”

Her fingers tips rested in the side of her cup, absorbing heat. There was always that tension between the deep soothing of heat and that threshold of pain from keeping them there too long. Then again, Eela had an incredible pain tolerance, built up over the years. Finally, she moved her fingers, tapping them. “I do find it interesting that we both come from those kinds of backgrounds. Not that there isn’t politics in Starfleet, but it’s very different, even for a career officers,” she said, smiling softly. “For what its worth, while you and I still have to deal with the politics surrounding those that appointed us, I agree that not having to worry quite as much about it being a popularity contest allows us to do more meaningful work. Not that public opinion doesn’t matter. In fact I’m still trying to get used to that. I’m not accustomed to having to care much what people think of me. It’s a little jarring.”
