OOC: So rather than trying to gather everyone into a meeting thread and delay the start of the PRSIM we’re working towards, James and I thought we’d post a summary of the meeting. If your character has anything they’d want to discuss regarding this, simply split the thread and add your character’s name to the title, or feel free to start a new thread. At 1400 hours (Oed V time), the senior members of the colony gathered to be briefed on a meeting that the Executive had with a senior member of the Federation Diplomatic Corps. Said meeting explained that the Vren had reached out to forge diplomatic ties in the wake of a burgeoning ecological crisis on their homeworld that not only threatens flora and fauna, but also their civilization.

Federation scientists have looked into the issues and verified that they indeed exist. So far research has not progressed beyond that until formal diplomatic ties are established.

It has been proposed that as the nearest Federation establishment to the Vren border, that Oed V host the negotiations. It is further proposed that a Federation Embassy be established to lend support to such negotiations and future diplomatic relations with other worlds as well.

The Executive has expressed their concerns on behalf of the colony to one Ambassador Jeanette Mathis, the proposed ambassador who would establish the colony. These concerns (based on the historic hostility of the Vren and the disputed territorial claims) were heard and subsequently the Vren ambassador was brought into the conversation to speak directly to the issues. They acknowledged that harm was done in the past and are confirming that their government would be willing to offer a formal apology. In Vren culture there is a ceremony that does just this, and the Vren ambassador is seeking approval from the Vren Senate to draft an explanation for how the ceremony works and its importance to be provided to the people of Oed ahead of the actual ceremony.

Obviously, even the mention of the Vren summons strong reactions and it would be the goal of the government to consider all issues. It is believed to be ultimately necessary to host the Vren, but security and diplomatic measures must be in place well in advance as well as confirming that the people of Oed have a say in the matter. Should diplomatic relations advance, the Executive further proposes a formal banquet at the Oed Museum as a first meeting to allow a sharing of cultures.

Given that each area of Oed’s government will have different considerations and stakes, the Executive invites everyone to take some time to draft their thoughts on the matter and submit them to the Executive, who will in turn consider everything and make an ultimate decision on how to proceed.

Fayth sat at the table looking over the information, feeling the trepidation and fear of the established residents and the worry of the newer. “My first concern is this paralytic toxin. I don’t suppose the Vren will give us the chemical composition Incase of exposure. Or a sample so we can develop our own.”

“From what we know, the issue has not been posited to the Vren. Nor do I expect it to be. As it is a contact toxin, we should assume physical contact will be a non-starter. And their suits it seems provide a level of protection.” Hyrushi replied.

Well it wasn’t what she hoped for but what she expected.

“Another question? Has it been considered to host the Vren on the orbital platform or spaceport?” She looked at Dasca and McBride, “Or even the Centurian? The diplomatic suites can have the environment adjusted so they can spend time outside their suites. Putting the choices to a vote of the residents, albeit a sudden and fast vote, could offer a sense of security to the people. This won’t be easy for them to accept.”

“The Centurion is a Star Fleet vessel and warship.” the Governor said with an edge to his words, if not his voice. “We are seeking a peaceful relationship… not to intimidate. And this is not a Star Fleet matter.” He paused a moment and then said “And we do not have the time to put this up for a vote, Doctor. Nor is this actually a choice. Thus the ceremony the Vren have proposed.”

Sharah reminded herself that this was not Sacred Heart, and not everyone wanted to try and work together. Gods she was tired of being judged by people who should try harder. His displeasure was a undeserved mental slap. No wonder the people didn’t want to work with them. They followed their leaders. She turned her gaze on the governor. He didn’t want opinions or suggestions. She would remember that. She genuinely and deeply cared about this colony. She didn’t want a rift, and it was clear to any empathy in the room was sincerely sorry for the misunderstanding. “My apologies. Obviously this is not a Star Fleet matter. It’s an Oed matter. My intention was not to imply it was.” Hence asking about Oed facilities first. “Star Fleet is here to provide our skills and resources for the benefit of the colony and the people who live here.” She was concerned for her patients that been injured in the Vren attacks and still delt with the emotional injuries, and her question was born out of easing their fear. She pushed her chair back. “I have no more questions. I’ll return to my patients.”

Out of the tower she had to wonder how Eela dealt with the man.
