The woman turned and her hazel eyes took in Molly intently, a look of of recognition passing through them. The sharp angled ridges over her brows marked her instantly as Haliian. “Normally, it’s seconds but this is the third time they been down to one station and I haven’t been here all that long.”

“You’re Molly Holloway,” the woman said, offering her hand. “Eela Dasca, the new Lieutenant Governor, who is also now running late and whose guests probably beat her to her own office.”

Then that was why she seemed familiar. Molly had seen the news coverage of the newly arrived Lieutenant Governor of OED, but with the week she had had the details had mostly been thrown to some forgotten place in the back of her mind.

“Indeed.” Molly said with a polite smile, taking Dasca’s hand and shaking it. “Oh, I knew you looked familiar but I couldn’t quite place you. It’s a pleasure to meet you Ma’am.” There was an apologetic tone in her voice.

“No worries at all, you’ve had a lot going on.”

Dasca gestured to the man beside her. “This is my Executive Assistant, Cort Belanger.”

Cort offered Molly a smile. “A pleasure, Ma’am.”

With a soft smile, Molly nodded in greeting.

“Who are you meeting with?” Eela asked Holloway.

“I’m meeting with Governor Hyrushi. Our Chief of Operations was who was supposed to attend the meeting originally, but after everything that’s happened I figured I should talk to him personally. I’m not very familiar with all the safety procedures though, as my uncle is the one that attends most business meetings since he’s been here for far longer than I have.” Holloway chuckled softly. There was a clear pang of sadness as her voice trailed off, but she brushed it off quickly. “I really didn’t want to keep the Governor waiting though.” She looked at her watch again, as the line advanced a few steps.

“No, you do not,” Dasca said with a knowing smile.

“How are you adjusting to life on OED so far?” Molly asked Dasca.

Eela drew in a deep breath and shook her head slightly. “It’s been a whirlwind!” she said with a light laugh. “Not a bad one, but it’s a lot different than I’m used to, and it’s not just the job, but I’m enjoying it here so far.”

Looking over at the security line, Dasca let out a frustrated huff and called out loudly over the hum of people, “Lexin…” The guard moving people through looked over apologetically, but Dasca tapped her wrist and pointed up. The guard nodded with understanding.

Eela looked at Molly and gestured with her head. “Come with us. I’m perfectly happy to wait in line with everyone else, but some days it’s just not feasible. There are benefits to rank, and some days you need to use them.”

Moving out of the line, Eela and Cort approached and Lexin held the next person in line back and she spoke quietly to the guards. “This needs to be dealt with for the long term. There are hundreds of people passing through here on a daily basis. It’s not good enough.”

The guard nodded. “Yes, Ma’am. We’ll have it sorted out.”

“Good , Dasca said before she tapped herself through unapologetically and crossed over the scanner line.

Cort followed and they simply waited for Molly to cross through before the headed for the bank of lifts.
