“Nope,” McBride said. “Command doesn’t always give reasons and I’ve learned to trust Personnel’s decisions most of the time. Though I would be careful about focusing too heavily on ground combat. Yes, we’ll be doing joint drills to prep for emergencies, but the surface is the realm of the CCDA. We try not to mess with their turf and they try to do the same. Our focus as far as security goes orbital defence and system patrols. We try to head off threats before they reach the planet.”

Tiberius thought this was a very interesting question since the Captain seemed to have something in mind and then responded the way they responded. Tiberius then responded to the captain, “I understand. I was just shooting into the dark at your question. I thought you might have something in mind but I was unsure. Are you enjoying Oed V and the Centurion so far? I am looking forward to getting to know both the colony and the ship.” He also loved starting out on new locations to learn about everything. When it comes to getting assigned to this location, he was asked by his commanding officer on the Titan and he was interested in something a little different. He then waited for a response from McBride.

“I too am looking forward to getting to know this place, but I only just got here. Haven’t even had a chance to unpack much or even visit the ship.” Jonathan spread his hands out to the side. “Priorities.”

“I am curious though… you’ve said that you were asked to come here and that you were enjoying your previous assignment. Does that mean you had a choice in whether you came here?” McBride asked.

Tiberius thought for a second to best answer the question. He thought he was asked by his previous command staff on the Titan but he was unsure if he really had the option or not to not take the position. He then responded with, “Maybe I was asked because at one point I indicated it would be interesting to be on a colony such as Oed V and be part of a smaller vessel. That was long before I was asked to transfer here so I am not sure if that was really what led to the question or not. The other part is would I really had an option to deny if I wanted? I thought it might be a good step in my career based on the fact it was looking to be a promotion to Lt Cmdr but not sure if that would have mattered with the career trajectory I was already on. Maybe it was due to someone having the ability here to better provide command training than what might have happened on the Titan as well. I am not 100% sure. ” Tiberius was hoping he was not rambling on or digging himself a hole. He seemed to be good at digging himself into a bigger hole when he was nervous.

Jonathan chuckled. “Relax, Commander, I’m not trying to trick you here. Just trying to get to know how you think. there was no right answer, just the one that is true,” he said with a shrug.

Dropping his foot to the floor and sitting upright, he rested his arms on the desk, lacing his fingers together. “This colony is not a starship and we can’t go about our day acting like it is. We have our own domain here but we interact with a variety of people on the regular, most of them civilians or the CCDA. This conversation we’re having now isn’t meant to be the end of us getting to know each other, but the beginning . And I’m going to hopefully ask questions that prompt some thought. You don’t have to have the answers today, but I expect you will be actively working to have it figured out in the next while as you settle in.” Does that make sense?”
