So far her life on Oed seemed to involve wrangling chaos. So… not all that much different than the usual, even if the scope and impact were vastly larger.

But as she had mentioned, she was able to take a late morning and spend some time working on her patio and since Sharah was also free, she invited the doctor over, telling her to sign in at the security desk with the plain-clothes Starfleet officer and when she pressed the call button for the lift at the very end of the lobby, Eela could allow her up.

While she waited her friend’s arrival, she was out on the patio soaking up the warm sun. There was a nice breeze today as well which would be nice as they worked. Tossing coffee coloured cushions on the patio loungers set up in the corner, she moved over to sip from her glass of water and then eyed the large planters lining the outer edge of the patio. It was large enough that even though her apartment had tall ceilings, anything she grew there would get enough sun to be classified as ‘full sun’. That wasn’t the case elsewhere on the patio, so this area was her food production section.

The date and time had been arranged, but Sharah knew she would be bringing a couple of bags of equipment with her. So in an effort to ease the security check in process she had sent a list of what she would be bringing to Eela a few days before hand.

The day was beautiful and Sharah was excited to be digging in the dirt rather than stuck at the hospital. It was a nice change of pace. She enjoyed the walk, the noise around her was happy, and families and children ran and played and simply enjoyed life. Stepping into the building she spotted the plain clothes security officer. She had seen him in e or twice in passing around the fleet housing. He compared her combadge signal and her biometrics with her file, checked everything she had and scanned it. Then he left her to the lift and hit the button. “Have a good afternoon Lt.”

Sharah stepped on to the lift, “Thank you, you as well, Cmdr.”

As the lift made its way to the twelfth and top floor, security send a message up to her so she knew someone was on their way. So it was that Eela was waiting at her open door when Fayth stepped out a soft smile on her face. She was dressed very casually in the same stretchy black trousers she had worn at the hospital and dark green t-shirt that skimmed her body, giving lots of room for her brace. Her hair was thrown up in a loose ponytail. “Good morning.” She stepped back to allow the doctor to enter.

“Good morning.” Sharah stepped off the lift careful not to hit the jam and bump her cargo. She was wearing what looked like jeggins and a soft light weight knit shirt. It came to her knees (on a taller person it would have hit just at the hip) and was secured with a thin belt. She glanced around in curiosity as she entered Eela’s space.

The large foyer had a closet to the right and another door on the left that led to a storage room. But there were also two comfortable arm chairs in a floral pattern on either side of a console table. On the taupe coloured wall walls were a couple of art pieces: a delicate pencil drawing of some sort of shop with jars of items on shelves behind the counter, and a watercolour style painting of an aurora sweeping over the night sky, illuminating a lush looking hillside. The sight lines from the front door looked across the matte black stone floor with white veining right into the open plan dining room which held open double doors onto the large patio that spanned two-thirds the length of the penthouse. There were no buildings right beside hers that blocked the view, so one could see the central part of the colony in and around the Government Tower.

“Can I take anything? And we can even just take things right out to the patio. It’ll be easier,” she said, gesturing straight through her place.

“Oh please.” She passed her two hard bottomed tote baskets filled with seedlings, “I’m afraid I am going to tip them over.” Then she adjusted the other bags with a grin. “I may have gone overboard. How are you today?

Carrying the totes with care, Eela moved through the large dining room which was an open space adjacent to the living room, but was separated by two large smooth structural pillars and a clear glass fireplace. A large dark wooden table with ten wooden chairs took centre stage atop a geometrically patterned rug in creams, greens and blues. Flowers from the market filled a couple vases on the side board and a large arrangement was crafted in a piece of round pottery.

“I’m doing well, actually. Slept really well and getting to sleep in was novel. Only had to field three calls from the office too. I consider that a win,” Dasca said over her shoulder as she moved around the table.

“How are you?” Eela asked.

Following Eela toward the patio Sharah breathed it in. “This is lovely, so much light and the view is wonderful. Oh,” she turned about and glanced at the sun. “You’ll be able to get full and partial light out here. Wonderful.” Sharah’s enthusiasm seemed boundless when it came to plants.

“Right? I was very excited when I first moved in and saw the potential right away. The patio is big enough that I can have little outdoor rooms. Still lots to do on that front, but I had to let security do their thing first, which is why I’m glad I waited till now to do any gardening related tasks,” Dasca said as she set the totes on a pale coloured round wooden table and gestured to the edge of the exterior patio wall. It was hard to see since it was designed not to obscure her view, but there was a very slight shifting when you moved your head that was caused by a large transparent sheet that spanned the entire edge of the patio. Designed to prevent projectile and energy weapons from penetrating, it meant there would be no resting arms on the edge and looking over.

“You know, at first I was a bit miffed at the imposition but it is far better that I can read or dine out here on a nice day and not worry about my safety.” Eela planted her hand on a hip and shook her head. “I will say that that is probably one of the biggest things I’ve had to get used to. On a starship, everyone is cleared and secure. I could walk any of the 30 decks of the ship and not worry. And though I was used to security being around when I was on diplomatic assignments, it’s just so much more intense here. We spoke a bit about the necessary paranoia, but it’s hard to get used to.”
