Tenkiller pretended to think about it a moment and then said “Let’s save that for a truly special occasion. Like our first fight and we’ll take it out on them instead.”

Tenkiller

Yavia contemplated him a long moment, staring into his eyes. “That’s planning far ahead.” Then with a smile, “I think I like it.” She finished the last of her desert with a sip of the wine. “What do you like most about your work?”

Yavia

Tekiller wiped his mouth with his napkin and leaned back in the booth holding his wine. “I like that its never dull. And that its never the same thing again and again. And that I get to meet people from all over the galaxy that many other people don’t. And at the end of the day, I’m helping people. They may not know it like they do with you and your work, but what I do matters. And thats matters to me.”

“What about you? Why nursing?”

Tenkiller

“Because it makes a difference. Not in large big ways, but small ways to individual people. Sometimes society is so stuck on encouraging people to make big sweeping differences we all forget that we are individual people first and foremost. When people are injured or sick they are at their most vulnerable, and I like that I get to be there to help them feel better, make them feel cared for and safe until they can do it on their own. Whether that’s the patient or their loved ones sitting in the room. I like that it’s not the bigger picture, but the single brush strokes.”

Tenkiller grinned like she had just said some kind of inside joke that only he was privy to. “Single brush stokes… I like that.” and he downed the last dregs of his glass. “Do you like art? Sculptures, paintings, that kind of thing?”

Tenkiller

She waited to see if he would explain what was so amusing, but it seemed he wasn’t going to elaborate. A mystery for later perhaps. “Does anyone ever really not like art? I mean in general? There are pieces or types, techniques that don’t appeal to people or subjects that some find offensive or harsh, but to dislike art as a broader subject. All that to say I like art, I like to look at it when I see it, but have never studied it or sought it out. More due to a lack of time than lack of interest though. What about yourself?”
