Dasca let out a long-suffering sigh. “Fresh baked goods are my downfall. Combine that with an actual bookstore? I could be in some serious trouble. But if I ever go missing, you’ll know where to find me,” she said, breaking into a grin. There was this feeling of possibility that had arisen during their conversation. It was like all the pieces of her life from the past that she had down because she couldn’t have or use them in recent years were now right there in front of her to pick up again. There was something poetic about it and there was a tiny shift in her overall demeanour, something in her that relaxed a fraction despite being in a public setting.

The easing of Eela’s mood was noticible for Fayth, both empathically and by simple observation. Though the idea of a book store intrigued her. She was sure she could drag Markus away from his experiments long enough to visit a real paper book store. For the longest time books had been her only friends. It had been such a breath of relief to experience people and society without knowing what was about to happen before it did, or to be so overwhelmed by it all it was like being smashed against rocks in a raging river. To be able to learn about people (despite being fictional) in a genuine way had been a craved for experience. Sharah had quite a collection of real books. “It’s been awhile since I’ve indulged in purchasing a paper book. If I ever get away from the hospital long enough, I will have to find it.” Other people might have meant that comment to convey they were overworked and frustrated, but there was no mistaking the genuine affection in her voice for the hospital and the patients she saw and work that she did.

“You and me both,” Dasca said. If she let Cort have his way, her schedule would be full up for the rest of the month by the end of the week. Part of it was necessary but it was overwhelming and made her feel tired just thinking about it.
Tenkiller nodded. “Its over in the Park District, by the big high rise apartments.” It was a more affluent area within the confines of the old dome. “Pretty neat set up they have.” At that moment there was the loud sound of someone rapping a glass with a fork and the crowd fell silent. “Ladies and gentlemen of Oed V. Welcome.” Turner’s voice carried over the room from his place at the far front of the space near the doors to the outside. “I would like to thank you all personally for attending tonight’s showing. All of the puces you see are for sale, and the silent auction will begin in ten minutes. The pieces before you tonight are the work of two wholly unique and talented artists. The sculptures are by the renowned artist Eryn, whose works until tonight were exclusively shown on Risa. A stunning and dazzling worker of metal, Efyn possess the singular ability to bring forth fluidity and grace from the most unyielding materials. Our second is Anonymous, but their works are the stuff of unknown depth of understanding. Some have said they paint the very fundamental building blocks of the universe; and their work hangs in such prestigious venues as the Shaker Gallery on Earth and the Vad’ren Gallery on Vulcan. Rumor has it that one of their pieces actually hung in the main office of the commander of the Romulan Secret Police… the Tal’shiar… before the destruction of that Empire.” At that Tenkiller choked on his beer slightly and tried not to laugh and cough. “What a crock…” he mumbled.
Sharah side eyed Tenkiller with a look that said she knew he knew something. She wouldn’t ask, nor did she pry. The mumbled words only confirmed for her he wasn’t just there for the endless free beer.
Arched eyebrows were Dasca’s response as she too thought it unlikely. Bragging about Tal Shiar was a strange way to try to improve sales. Hmmm.
Turner motioned to the exhibit and said “So please go… peruse. Look. Feel the energies cascading from these pieces. And when yiu find that singular piece… don’t let anyone keep you from it. Enjoy.” and he moved back into the crowd.

Sharah had no need to glance around to see how Turner’s words affected the crowd. They were eager to see the pieces and claim one for their own. Sharah thought Turner laid it on a bit thick, but it obviously worked. The crowd seemed to surge around them for a moment. Being as short as she was Sharah had mastered being in a crowd without being jostled too much. She was concerned for Dasca though and her back. Hopefully no one bumped her. Of course the physical crowd was nothing to the sudden eagerness and possessiveness Turner’s words had created. Sharah took a sip of the ginger ale again, closing her eyes briefly as she did some mental acrobatics.
Tenkiller, for seemingly no apparent reason, positioned himself in such a way that people coming near the trio would be forced to go either in front of or behind the man… thus splitting the crowd around the Lieutenant Governor and keeping people from bumping into her.
Fayth glanced at Tenkiller as he subtly adjusted his position. The look could be nothing other than gratitude. Nice to know the man wasn’t just flashy bravado.
A slim Vulcan woman was suddenly next to the group, having come out of nowhere, but she did look up at Tenkiller and give a simple nod.
Moving on to the next piece on the circuit she laughed a bit. It was a small piece, colorful, vibrant, soothing in a way. But what made her laugh was the sign Reserved by Eryn. “I wonder if it’s true or just a marketing gimmick? Hopefully both.”
Sharah
“Oh, that’s the real thing. I was in here earlier. She saw it when she was bringing in her pieces. She point-blank told Turner she wanted it.”
Tenkiller, VC-CCDA
She didn’t know much about the art world, other than to enjoy and admire the pieces she liked. She wondered if it was common or uncommon for artists to purchase each others’ works? In medicine it could go either way. Doctors either worked together in harmony building on each other’s expertise or they became jealous, always wanting to be the best. “So you actually got a look at the reclusive Eryn?” That surprised her. Turner struck her as a man that would go to great lengths to respect the eccentricities of the artists he worked with.
Charles grinned and said “I did indeed. And she was… well… as one would expect.” and he chuckled.
Meanwhile, Dasca was gazing across the room, her eyes fixed in the direction where the piece she had been eyeing at the beginning hung on the wall. she had intended to circle back to it after seeing everything else, but with the sudden frenzy Turner induced, she worried she wouldn’t get a chance at it. She was strangely miffed by the idea. It wasn’t so much the idea of missing out on the emotive painting, but she felt like it would be taken from her. Which was exceptionally strange. She could examine that train of thought later, but right now, she had a task in mind and Eela was an exceptionally determined woman when she needed to be.
Stepping forward to Tenkiller and Fayth, Eela offered a small grin. “Wish me luck, I’m going into the fray. Can’t be worse than the Borg, but then again, this crowd does seem rather excitable now,” she said, bowing her head to them.
Sharah grinned, “Good luck.” The crowd was rather worked up. Instinct and a lot of experience told Sharah, though she couldn’t prove it, that it would abate in a few minutes as people found the pieces they felt drawn to have. In the mean time her head pounded slightly. With Dasca moving into the fray, Sharah moved toward the next piece.
With a nod to Sunna, Dasca walked towards the painting she was enamoured exuding confident energy, using the fullness of her presence to very subtly encourage the crowd to give her space. As she came to stand in front of the painting she studied it again. The swirl of colours so precisely rendered by geometric shapes caught her breath. Was it masochistic to like this painting so much, given what it reminded her of? But as she understood all too well, sometimes being face-to-face with something you could only partially confront other times lent a measure of clarity that was necessary. She had to steady her breath, to tamp down on her feelings of loss and failure, carefully tucking them away where they were safe. They were not appropriate in this setting.
Ripping her gaze off the piece, Eela sought out Turner, allowing her mind to hone in on him. She had met many people like him over the years and they always knew when someone wanted to get their attention. She would wait until he was free to come to her.
~Eeela Dasca, Lt. Gov.
It was scant moments before the older man was making his way through the crowd. Soon he was near her and inclined his head to her. “Lieutenant Governor Dasca. A true pleasure and a greater honor to have you with us tonight.” It was odd, but while his words seemed canned and cliché, he was absolutely sincere. “I am Franklin Turner. Are you enjoying the showing?”
Turner
She offered a sincere smile. “Very much so. It’s been awhile since I’ve bene able to attend an art events and the artists you have tonight are very talented.” Eela gestured to the piece. “Is this one spoken for? If not, I’m very interested.” She wasn’t sure how this place handled purchases but the costs was not an issue for her. Dasca believed in paying artists what they were worth and in her mind art was one of the worthiest endeavours.

Turner looked at the piece and then at a PaDD and said “No, Madame. That piece is still available for bidding in the silent auctio-” and he stopped short as his eyes focused on something behind her and a wave of surprise floated through him as he said “Actually, Lieutenant Governor, the piece will be held for you until after the show. You may pick it up at your leisure.” and he pulled a small red light cube form his pocket and placed it on the lower right corner of the frame.
“What do you think General? You aren’t into art as you put it, but any piece take your attention?” Fayth continued on, making her way, out of habit, away from the denser part of the crowd, coming upon the damaged piece and the sign about art being eternal.
Fayth, SFCMO
Tenkiller smiled and shook his head. “Naw. I don’t really have time for art. Never learned much about it. And sure as hell can’t afford it!” and he laughed. He looked around a bit and said “I dunno… maybe that piece over yonder.” and he gestured to a sculpture piece of entwined figures made of blocks of wire.

Sharah smirked. “Well then it’s a good thing your friend Mr. Turner lures you in with unlimited free beer. It allows you time to experience it. Though, personally I always felt ‘learning’ about art diminished the appreciation. Too much analytical and not enough feeling.” Her gaze scanned the pieces landing again on the chaos piece as she was mentally referring to it. She hadn’t looked at the name. She rarely did, it influenced her own perception. “That approach isn’t for everyone though.” She turned following his gesture. “Provocative and beautiful. Not sure why but it reminds me of this artest on Betazed. She made glass sculptures. The way she dyed the glass and blended colors was elegant.”
