Dasca nodded slowly, clearly processing the information give to her. “So, allowing Helaky to step down and hiring an assistant Chief of Staff is definitely a priority and I’ll add it to the list of positions that need to be discussed.”

“As for the Centurion, that will be a conversation you need to have with the new commanding officer when they arrive. But I’ve been a member of a rapid response team before when I served on a Starbase. It was a similar set-up to what we have here: a ship meant for defence and other specific one-off missions that has a rotating skeleton crew and when needed a portion of a contingent of crew responds quickly to a summons. If that is a role you wish to have, we can make that happen, or if is not, we can easily have one of your juniors lead the medical team while on alert.”

Her right middle finger tapped the cup ash she thought, her eyes narrowing slowly as they focused elsewhere for a moment. “A team cannot function without smoothly without everyone knowing who is who and what is expected of it. I’m still trying to understand the situation here, and I get that there are only so many senior medical staff at the hospital with the experience, but what if you were to delegate your duties one day a week to be based solely at the Starfleet Complex, and on the Centurion as skeleton crew if you wish to be a part of the rapid response?”

Sharah took a deep breath and leaned back. “That would be ideal but there isn’t a medical ‘station’ at the complex. From what I’ve gathered, when the dome was up space was a premium so all medical facilities were here. We have a nurses station on the complex, but medical is here at the hospital. Though having a day just to attend to the Star Fleet specific duties would be beneficial. It would let me go around and check on everyone.” She sipped at the chocolate a moment. “A focused medical facility now at the complex would be nice, make things clear and separated, but” here Sharah paused putting her thoughts into order. “I’m not a counselor and would make a poor one, but I do understand the subject. All of us being here at Sacred Heart is good for this colony. It is the one place all the divisions and factions that are fighting for control, influence, and power actually agree and don’t argue…much.” She paused, “I apologize, that’s not really what you were asking. Ideally, yes I would like to be able to split my time between the hospital, the centurion, and any other medical stations that might be put into place. That was my intention upon arriving, but circumstances and demand have not made that possible. Even if I’m not part of the rapid response crew for Centurion, I am still responsible for the officers chosen to serve there and for the state of the facilities. With Dr. Helaky’s return I plan to adjust my schedule. What I would like to do is specifically name someone as Assistant Chief Medical Officer and put them in charge of the facility on Centurion. Still rotate out with the skeleton crews, but create that chain of command now before we need it.”

It was a reasonable request and so Eela nodded before she sipped more coffee. “Then you should do that. The new CO will approve the appointment but there’s no reason you can’t have the request ready to go. It’s going to be a wild few days with more people entering the picture so we’ll just have to let the dust settle a bit, but if you don’t hear back by the end of the end, let me know.” It wouldn’t normally be her purview, since the day-to-day administration of Fleet matters was not going to be her focus, but until the new CO was here and caught up someone had to take care of matters, and that would be her.

Ah, so there would be a new CO other than Dasca. Sharah didn’t really have feelings about that one way or the other. She gave Dasca a nod, “I will do that. Nothing like burying the new CO before they even arrive.” She grinned.

“I think you’ll find too that the mixed staffing at the hospital will make more sense as we go along and adjust to the changes that are taking place.” Dasca offered a reassuring smile. “We’ll get things sorted one way or another and hopefully it won’t require too much head bashing on my part,” she said, breaking into a grin.

Sharah adored the mixed staffing. It was how medicine should be practiced. Putting the people of the community above anything else. Politics, factions, wealth, orders. Healing and making people better. Putting aside differences. For as much difficulty as Sharah was having adjusting to the the sheer population, Sacred Heart was a dream job for her. Sharah did grin at Dasca’s last statement, “Now, Lt Gov you aren’t going to make more work for me are you?”

Eela laughed openly. “I make no promises on the matter,” she said, shifting into a grin and her hazel eyes lit up. “There are many ways to encourage consensus, and sometimes it requires something a little more unconventional.”

“Do you have any other questions? If not, I should get to my next meeting and then take a rest. My new doctor will give me hell if I don’t,” she said before downing the last of her coffee.

“You’re right, she will. She may even enjoy it on occasion.” Sharah grinned and tapped her mug as she took a sip thinking. “For now, my only question is if you have any specific requirements from the medical staff. We may already be fullfilling it, but I’d rather know up front.”
