House Duroc Embassy - When Cultures (And Laws) Clash (Tag Lt. Gov.)

(snip)

Painkillers administered, Eela stepped out of the slider. Over plain black trousers she wore a dark grey and black coat with a subtle herringbone pattern. The shoulders were heavily embroidered in a filigree pattern with dark silver thread that made it look like she was wearing a shoulder armour piece. Her glossy black and silver-streaked hair was loose, the breeze tossing it. Accompanied by Sunar, her Vulcan bodyguard, Dasca stepped up to the open gate and took one step inside before stopping. She channelled every bit of her hard-won pride and stood tall. The woman had survived many, many battles. This did not need to be one and she was not here to start or continue any such nonsense. But her presence took up space and she did so unabashedly.

Sunar, clearly unarmed, stepped forward to the nearest guard and gave a small bow of her head. “Lieutenant Governor Dasca respectfully requests an audience with Lord Duroc.”

The guard, a Bajoran woman clearly in her later years but wearing her armor with a great deal of pride, remained silent but tapped a small box at her waist. Scant seconds later, a smallish figure in armor could be seen walking slowly over to the gate. She was recognizable as the teen from the video. She paused and whispered something to the Bajoran woman who pounded her fist against her chest and stood to the side.

Eela took that as a sign she was welcome and stepped forward, bowing her head to the young woman.

“Lieutenat Governor Dasca. I am Commander Shiv. Am I to assume you are here in regards to our earlier guests?” She didn’t wait for an answer, instead stepping to the side and gesturing into the grounds and towards the black building. “Do come in.. Please allow me to escort you to Lord Duroc.”

“Thank you,” Eela said simply, moving smoothly, Sunar a step behind and to her left. Mostly anyway. There was always a slight shift in her gait due to her brace but at least the pain was gone. She would have taken the terakine anyway, but damn Cort and his keen observations.

The walk through the grounds was uneventful save for a small contingent of guards falling in around them. Oddly, they formed themselves into the Star Fleet formation of an Honor Guard for visiting dignitaries, with Shiv walking next to the Lieutenant Governor opposite her bodyguard.

That small detail was not lost on Eela and was secretly impressed. It wasn’t just the observation of rank or position here. Klingons liked their ceremony, sure, but they also did not bestow small bits of honour without justification.

About halfway to the broad, stone steps leading up to the full story tall front doors of the House Duroc embassy, Shiv said “Tell me, Lieutenant Governor. Do you know much of Urg’tohn, my Lord Duroc?” Her tone was casual, and her emotional state was ridiculously calm… as if she hadn’t a single care in the entire universe. The kind of calm held only by those who have perfect confidence in themselves… or those who were psychotic.

Eela’s hazel eyes gazed intently at Shiv. “I am aware of many details, but I have learned over the years that what is written down rarely covers the fullness of a person. I prefer to learn about people firsthand but I also trust in those that have earned that person’s respect. Do you believe there are things I should know before I meet with him?”
