“Oh good! I’m not the only plant person around.” Eela smirked. “Though even as I say that I hear how ridiculous a comment that was given we have a whole botanical and agricultural science division,” she said with a laugh, shaking her head even as she took in the painting.

Fayth grinned, “We do, the facility was quite impressive. I am excited to see how the terraforming continues and the flora they add to the ecosystem. Botany is my secondary MOS. I spend a lot of time there, mostly to help make medications, but sometimes I get to indulge in just digging in the dirt and making a mess.”

“I have space for a kitchen garden on the patio. I’m looking forward to seeing what I can do out there.” Eela hadn’t been in one place for the last few years even though she had had an apartment in Paris. But the reality was that she had spent more time away from it then residing within.

Tenkiller shook his head and said “Naw, not much of an ‘art’ kinda guy. My Ma, though… she does some of the best bead work you’d ever lay eyes on. Whole tribe says she’s one of the best we’ve ever had. And thats sayin’ something.” He looked around and said “Yeah, she’d get a real thrill outta this, I think.” and he took a drink. He then said “If you’re lookin’ for stuff for your place, though, you might wanna try the Plaza Exchange. Its a might rough from time to time, but you should be okay during daylight hours. Bit of advice, though… don’t go alone, and do not let them deliver. They’ll know your face, but that shouldn’t keep you from finding what you want.”

Tenkiller, VC-CCDA

“I would like to see her work sometime if you were willing to show me. My favorite pieces at the Art Museum in Dalaria City were the textiles. I love paintings and sculptures, but there is something deeper…more connected about art that you wear or use every day.” Those pieces, seemed to Sharah, to carry an impression of the people who owned them. It was fanciful of course, ghosts didn’t leave memories behind to be read, but what value and stories could a piece used and kept close tell if they did carry those memories. She supposed that’s why archeologists did what they did. To discover the stories left behind.

Tenkiller nodded and said “Sure. Anytime. I have some pieces in my office. Drop by when you can.”

Hmmm was that another attempt at flirtation? Sharah didn’t think so, but getting a read on the man wasn’t easy, and her own senses still seemed a bit…off. “Thank you, I might just have to do that.” She took a sip of the Ginger Ale. Most likely she and Eraras would have to make a visit to the CCDA offices to check on Harris eventually anyway.

Dasca snapped her fingers and pointed at Tenkiller. “Good plan. Though security was a foregone conclusion. I have a detail with me tonight, though I have to say Sunar is excellent at blending into the crowd. I can have the illusion that I’m not constantly watched, even if the reality is vastly different.” Was it a strange new existence? Definitely. But it didn’t bother her all that much. It was just another thing she had to get adapt to.

Tenkiller chuckled. “Ma’am, it doesn’t matter how good they are. You’ll stick out like a sore thumb in that place. Quick lesson on the seedier side of this place. See, OED doesn’t have slums, but that section of the city is certainly not on any tourist guide. Most of the people there are honest… at least mostly…” and he grinned slightly, “…and they work hard for their living. But, just like in any place where sentient beings congregate, there are those who work in professions that one doesn’t go to ‘formal’ trade school for. Organized crime is greatly frowned on on OED, and not just by law enforcement and Star Fleet and the CCDA. The residents that would typically benefit from such ‘organization’ don’t like the attention that those types tend to bring. So… groups like the Orion Syndicate and Black Star Pirates tend to keep a very low profile. They have their representatives, sure… and I’m sure Commissioner Karlson knows every damn thing about them.. but they are here at the discretion of the locals.” and he laughed a jovial laugh.

Dasca arched her brows trying to gauge the merits of a shopping venture frequented by types she wasn’t supposed to be interacting with.

“Oed V takes a very ‘farm-to-table’ approach to criminal activities.” and he tipped his beer in her direction before takinga drink. “The PE is the main market for that. And don’t get your feathers ruffled, no I’m not telling you to go buy stolen goods. But everyone does some shopping at the PE from time to time. Hell, the Governor got his couch there.” and he chuckled slightly.

And then she understood. It wasn’t tacit approval, but a part of blending in. Not literally, of course, but if she shopped there, she’d be like everyone else and not set herself apart so much. That was her goal, after all. Eela wanted there to be a day (sooner rather than later) where her previous careers weren’t an issue but an asset and no one blinked an eye anymore. Following the lead of the locals would help immensely.

“I also heard there was a food and artisan market in Sloan Square on occasion? I kind of like the idea of stopping by something like that regularly to pick up whatever food items are available and seeing what I can cook. I’m aiming to actually cook once a week but only time will tell if it’s too ambitious,” Eela said as she moved towards the next piece. The large blue and green fractal spiral was even more abstract and she found herself feeling like she was being pulled into it. It was partly an optical illusion, but she could hear her brace whir as it corrected her posture to keep with her movement and stabilize her.

~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.

Sharah did not cook for various reasons, but she loved to try. “One of the nurses takes orders and goes and picks up from Sloan Square for the patients every week. A taste of home is always welcome.” She wasn’t sure where Sloan Square was. Sharah really needed to get out and explore the colony more. Maybe in a couple of weeks. She turned to Tenkiller. “Have you found any spot on the colony worth recommending?” She glanced at his beer, her look conveying she meant other than art shows with bottomless beer, and grinned.

Fayth, SFCMO

Tenkiller nodded and said “Sloan Square Farmer’s Market. First day of every weekend. *Great selection of stuff. Absolutely a solid place to buy fresh food.”

Tenkiller, VC-CCDA

“Glad to hear it,” Eela said. “I love that there are thriving events like that , and this, where the community gets together and mingles.” It made her smile deeply as they moved along.

Sharah’s face lit up a little, “I may have to make a trip there. Those a great places to look for plants that are much more unique and healthy than you can find in a scientific green house. I am sure I can make room for more.” She had already started growing herbs from seeds she’d harvested from the Vikings arboretum. A tomato plant or two wouldn’t be bad either for all the pasta she ate.

“You know the other thing I’m on the hunt for? A little cafe. Great tea and coffee, lovely food. Quieter, perhaps,” Eela said. “Somewhere I can be out of the office when I’m not in meetings. I’ve seen a lot of food establishments, and I fully intend to try them all, but I’ll take recommendations too. Hell, if anyone wants to come test some of them out with me, I’d be glad for the company,” she said, breaking into a tiny grin.

~Eela Dasca, Lt. Gov.

Fayth’s gaze got far away for a moment. ~Ilena. What’s that coffee shop you like? The Lt Gov is looking for a place to work away from the office.~ The reply came quickly. “There is a small coffee cart in front of the government building that has the best coffee. Apparently it is from a shop two blocks from Sacred Heart that is usually pretty quiet. The Bookworm is on the University campus and supposedly has the best scones. Lots of students studying there.”

Fayth, SFCMO

Tenkiller made a ‘so-so’ gesture with his hand. “I am not gonna knock the coffee cart. That coffee is some of the best around. The shop is always crowded, though. Best I’ve found is at the Quill and Parchment bookstore.” and he looked at Dasca. “Its owned by a former Star Fleet officer. Apparently some kind of genius Engineer with no small reputation. And they make great coffee and cinnamon rolls.”
