Tenkiller returned and handed the ginger ale to to Sharah. “Here you go.” In his other hand he had a fresh beer. He looked at the sculpture and nodded slowly. “That says ‘Nice’ and that one says ‘Meet’. Huh… thats pretty cool, I gotta say.”

“Agreed, Dasca said softly, her hazel eyes still focused on tracing the lines of the metal sculpture. It reminded her of her paternal grandmother who had lived to 131 years of age and near the end of her life lost most of her auditory hearing and hearing aides only had helped so much by that point. With Haliians, the way around it was to touch and communicate telepathically if you were not emotionally close to a person and didn’t have that bond. She and her grandmother most definitely did, but Eela had been elsewhere most of her adult life, so her and Quiri developed a system to communicate that involved Eela writing her responses text and Quiri speaking and both using gestures to add emphasis and clarity to the words. Strange how a bunch of metal could evoke memories of her botany and ecology professor grandmother so strongly.
Fayth took the glass “Thank you, General.” She started at the piece a bit longer. “It’s a very moving piece.” As a doctor, Sharah had seen many patients to adjust or upgrade implants or cybernetic devices due to injury but she had also had babies, new borns, brought in to fix a ‘defect’ that appears at birth. Sharah felt that as a society, those individuals were not seen as unique but rather an error to be fixed. They could be met fully or half way instead of making them fit society’s deal of normal. It’s never sat well with her. This particular piece gave her hope.
Turning her attention to the next piece, another painting, the lines were smooth and methodical and seemed harmonious. Approaching closer it was anything but. It was utter chaos inside. Terrifying almost, teetering on the edge. Sharah studied transfixed for quite awhile by the artistic and primal representation of Chaos Theory.

Dasca was in no rush to move to the next piece but was happy to move about with Fayth and Tenkiller, so took another moment to take in the piece before moving over to the next. “Do these openings happen often or is this more of a special event?” She was eager to get to know the art community here on Oed and figure out its ebbs and flows.

“Gallery just opened a few weeks ago.” Tenkiller said. “Frank was on Outpost 42 before here, but he has galleries all over. Earth, Vulcan, Risa, Delta Iv. He’s even got a place on Q’onoS. Apparently, Klingons are really into dogs playing poker.” and he grinned slightly and took a drink.
Dasca laughed. “You know, with all the Klingons I’ve worked with over the years I can see that actually.”
Tenkiller took a breath and looked at Dasca. “Ma’am, I think I owe ya an apology. I was a tad gruff at ya when you first walked up. That was just a personal matter that ain’t really got anything to do with you. So.. apologies if I came off less than polite.” and he nodded once at her.

In some situations, guarding her reaction was absolutely necessary. But not now. To do so now would ruin what was happening in this moment. So, her genuine surprise remained etched into her features. Eela bowed her head to him, sensing that his apology was sincere. “I appreciate that, thank you. I know I’m walking into something of a complicated situation here and it’s going to take time for all of us to find our footing. I think if we can all be patient with each other, it’ll work out just fine.” Regardless of how anything else went tonight, this tiny moment felt like a success. Maybe they’d discuss the personal matter at a later point, maybe they wouldn’t but she was not one to carry grudges.
Sharah was quite good at hiding her own reactions. It was a required survival skill for people with her condition, even among her own species.
“Do either of you collect art or crafts? My daughter all but demanded I get right to decorating my apartment when I gave her the virtual tour. She called it dreary,” Dasca said raising her brows slightly. “Can’t blame her, it’s very bare. But what stuff I do have is delayed from Earth so I am on the hunt for special pieces to make it feel a bit more homey. I have very little besides some basic furniture, so I’m open to suggestions of artisans or places on the colony I can check out. My only caveat is that I don’t want pieces that are just pretty. Beautiful yes, but I was taught that art should move you. Be personal.”

Sharah shook her head, “No, not yet. Not for a lack of desire though. So far I’ve moved duty stations too often to really get to settle into a place. I do tend to collect plants though.” Of course since leaving Viking she had several more than when she left. She’d picked up a few more while on Deneva and a Upland Hispid Hair from Kovater while they were at Starbase 257 before making their to Oed. Her quarters were turning into her own miniature green house. “As for where to find pieces, I’m afraid I’m no help. I’ve been on Oed less than a month myself. Though the talk at the hospital is that the University’s art program will be having a Master/Apprentice display at the end of the semester.”
