“”I’m alright, but thank you,” Dasca said.

Fayth watched Tenkiller back a way and raised her brows with a smirk trying to peek through. Was the man retreating? Sharah never thought she would see the day. She started to negate the offer of a drink, but the ginger ale was a thoughtful suggestion, even if he didn’t realize. It had the same color tone and bubbliness of champagne without the difficulties. Why not? She hadn’t made through even half the pieces yet, and she would like to see them all. “Thank you, Tenkiller, ginger ale would be lovely.”

“You got it, Doc.” and he turned and walked away.

Then Sharah turned to the next piece, a metal work sculpture of two pairs of hands. The hands were frozen in odd gestures that after a moment, Sharah realized was FSL though she didn’t know their meaning. It was Entitled: Unity From Silence.

Eela was inwardly amused as well, but for a slightly different reason. “I suppose I should get used to driving people away,” she said, very clearly not offended. She might not the exact reason but it mattered not because in practice she would deal with different forms of dislike towards her and her position. She would just have to create opportunities for people to get to know her.

Sharah did not envy Dasca her position. As former Star Fleet she would not be accepted by the populace here. As a retired captain, once diplomat, and now politician, the fleet officers wouldn’t trust her much either. Added to the actual CO would not be her, but the CO’s boss. Dasca was going to have a hard time of it.

Turning her attention sculpture with Sharah, Eela relaxed once again, lost momentarily in the evocativeness of the piece. “This artist is remarkable. There’s some so raw and beautiful about the sculptures. This one, most definitely resonates with me.”

Tenkiller returned and handed the ginger ale to to Sharah. “Here you go.” In his other hand he had a fresh beer. He looked at the sculpture and nodded slowly. “That says ‘Nice’ and that one says ‘Meet’. Huh… thats pretty cool, I gotta say.”

“Agreed, Dasca said softly, her hazel eyes still focused on tracing the lines of the metal sculpture. It reminded her of her paternal grandmother who had lived to 131 years of age and near the end of her life lost most of her auditory hearing and hearing aides only had helped so much by that point. With Haliians, the way around it was to touch and communicate telepathically if you were not emotionally close to a person and didn’t have that bond. She and her grandmother most definitely did, but Eela had been elsewhere most of her adult life, so her and Quiri developed a system to communicate that involved Eela writing her responses text and Quiri speaking and both using gestures to add emphasis and clarity to the words. Strange how a bunch of metal could evoke memories of her botany and ecology professor grandmother so strongly.

Fayth took the glass “Thank you, General.” She started at the piece a bit longer. “It’s a very moving piece.” As a doctor, Sharah had seen many patients to adjust or upgrade implants or cybernetic devices due to injury but she had also had babies, new borns, brought in to fix a ‘defect’ that appears at birth. Sharah felt that as a society, those individuals were not seen as unique but rather an error to be fixed. They could be met fully or half way instead of making them fit society’s deal of normal. It’s never sat well with her. This particular piece gave her hope.

Turning her attention to the next piece, another painting, the lines were smooth and methodical and seemed harmonious. Approaching closer it was anything but. It was utter chaos inside. Terrifying almost, teetering on the edge. Sharah studied transfixed for quite awhile by the artistic and primal representation of Chaos Theory.

Fayth, SFCMO

Dasca was in no rush to move to the next piece but was happy to move about with Fayth and Tenkiller, so took another moment to take in the piece before moving over to the next. “Do these openings happen often or is this more of a special event?” She was eager to get to know the art community here on Oed and figure out its ebbs and flows.
