Two Days LaterThe transporter pad suddenly felt incredibly solid under his tactical boots. The smell of gunpowder and iron reeked from his body as Harris looked down at his shaking right hand, his 1911’s barrel still smoking and he was covered in blood splatter. The Marine looked to his left and right at the four people standing with him. The Security Chief and the JG next to him looked shaken but ok, the two Ensigns beside them had a thousand yard stare indicative of the violence of combat when one first experiences it. All were armed to the teeth and splattered in blood. Tapping his damp commbadge, Harris said flatly.
=A= Harris to the Bridge. You have thirty seconds to be as far from that ship as possible. We’re all back. Take us home Captain. Harris out.=A=
Turning to the Security Chief, Harris said with a slight nod. “Thanks Chief. Go get your folks cleaned up and…” He motioned to the two junior officers. “… get those two over to see the CNS. They’ve gotta work through what just happened. I’m going to Sickbay.” The Security Chief nodded as Harris turned for the door, patting each of the four person team, three males and a female, firmly the shoulder before walking slightly to the Dresden’s Sickbay.
Walking through the door into the chaos of injured, many in the room stopped and stared at their Commanding Officer in way they never had… in fear. The man was in Marine Tactical gear, a Mossberg Tac Shotgun across his chest… an H&K slung over his back and his 1911’s holster open. He also carried an empty 10-charge grenade belt and he was splattered head to toe in various shades of blood. A Nurse ran up to him in a panic. “Skipper… Jesus Christ! Are you OK?!” Harris was coming down off the adrenaline of the assault and just sighed. “None of its mine Nikki… where’s Holloway?” Looking visibly relieved but still shocked, the Nurse ushered Calvin into a small, private room with a biobed already hard at work on a woman with matted fiery red hair. “She’s in here Skip.”
She looked… terrible. Like she had been through hell. Walking to her, Calvin shed the remnants of the battle he had waged to both save her and set retribution on the monsters that did this to her. His shotgun and assault rifle, along with the grenade belt clattered to the floor and he slid the blood damp tactical blouse off before quietly settling into the chair beside her. Taking her hand in his, tears flowing freely in the privacy of the moment, Calvin Harris wept over the broken body of the woman he loved. He had gotten her back yet worried who the woman she would be when she woke up. He cried for what felt like days and was only taken out of his despair when the hand he was crying over softly slipped from under his head, then ran its fingers through his short cropped hair. Through fresh tears, Calvin looked up into Molly’s eyes and in that moment thanked God for bringing her back to him.
The bioregenerative field had been finished its last cycle about 10 minutes when the sensors on General Harris’ bed beeped softly, indicating the CCDA Commander was starting to wake up. Boomer’s head come up from where he had finally been allowed to settle on the foot of Harris’ bed. It had been thirty-five hours since the former Marine left the surgical suite and as he began to stir, those in the room with him would hear a single soft mantra being said over and over. “Molly… I’m so sorry… I’m so so sorry.”
Harris, CCDA
Molly looked away from the PaDD she was reading when the beeping started, Boomer’s sudden movement telling her that she hadn’t been the only one to hear it. And then Calvin spoke. Softly. At first, Molly didn’t understand what he was saying, but the repetitive nature of his words helped her brain make sense of them.
Moving her chair closer to the side of the biobed and making sure the bioregenerative field was done for the moment, Molly took one of Cal’s hands in hers, softly rubbing her thumb on the back of it.
With a soft kiss to his forehead, Molly whispered. “It’s okay Calvin. I’m here. You’re forgiven.” Holloway didn’t know what was that the former Marine was so sorry for, but she felt that, at present time, that was the best way to put his mind at ease.

After a few more moments, Calvin Harris’ piercing blue eyes slowly opened… the dim light of the room causing the former Marine mild pain due to being closed for so long. As they focused, his eyes settled on Molly and he smiled softly, as if waking from a dream.
As Cal’s eyes met Molly’s, she breathed out in relief. He was awake. He was fine. He was going to be fine.
Then suddenly, the General flinched in alarm… his heart rate monitor noting the spike in his pulse. “Molls…?!” His eyes flashed down his body to Boomer, who had stirred as the CCDA boss awoke, then a look of near panic as Ali approached the bed. “Princess?” His voice was rough. “Why are you here, Baby?! Where am I?!” Ali touched his foot and was about to speak when Cal’s eyes flashed back to Molly. “Molly… where am I?” He asked, more focused and steady. “Why am I here?” Ali looked at Molly on the edge of panic herself, trembling in indecision as she and her father both looked to the woman.
Harris/Ali/Boomer
Memory confusion or amnesia. Doctor Eraras’s words echoed through Molly’s mind. Looking at the heart rate monitor as Calvin’s pulse spiked, Molly found herself staring at both father and daughter. Her own panicked gaze mirrored on theirs.
Squeezing Cal’s hand, Molly started as softly as she could, and yet her tone was far from steady. “You’re at Sacred Heart Hospital Calvin…” Should she tell him about the accident? Would he remember? Would that only make it worse for his heart rate? The questions zoomed through Molly’s mind at the speed of light. “… You were in a shuttle accident… but you’re okay now. You’re going to be okay.”
Taking a deep breath and looking expectantly at Cal, Molly hoped that her words would spark something to jog the former Marine’s memory of the accident back into the front of his mind.

Harris looked shocked then, his eyes showed a calming clarity as he nodded in understanding. “Okay.” After a moment, Calvin reached for his daughter’s hand… squeezing it tightly as tears ran down the young woman’s face. “You’re okay Daddy… you’re gonna be… fine.” Ali said softly, the last word catching in her throat.
Cal’s ‘okay’ hadn’t been enough to convince Molly, but she didn’t press the subject.
Still holding Ali’s hand, Calvin’s blue eyes found Molly’s brown and a bit more strength returned to the tone of his voice. “Molls… how long was I… out?” Then the flash of panic hit full force and Calvin tried, but failed, to sit up… his body still too weak to lift his shoulders more than a few inches before he fell back into the bed with a frustrated sigh. Looking at Molly once again, Calvin said firmly… his own voice nearly at full strength. “Where the hell is Lucas?!”
Gen. Calvin Harris, CCDA/LTJG Alexis Harris, Starfleet
“Easy… easy…” Molly leaned forward placing a hand on Cal’s shoulder gently pushing him back down on the biobed. “You were out for about two and a half days… just take it easy and rest. The bioregenerative field will kick in a few times a day to help, so you’ll feel better in no time.” Molly smiled softly.
“Jesus…” Harris said breathlessly. “… I feel like I was hit by a truck.” Taking a few slow breaths, the former pilot reached up with his right hand and rubbed his face for a moment before insisting… his voice nearly to full strength. “Molly, honey, where is your uncle?”
At the mention of Lucas, Cal would see the blood drain from Molly’s face. Eyeing the Marine’s heart rate monitor that seemed to have gotten quieter, Molly didn’t want to upset Cal again in order to keep his heart stable. She pondered for a moment what the best approach was, as she was also aware that a refusal to give Cal an answer would only make matters worse.
“Uncle Luc is in the room on the other side of the hallway.” Molly motioned with her chin to the hospital room’s door. “He’s asleep.” However, knowing Molly as well as he did, Cal wouldn’t miss the pain in her eyes, telling him that, even though truthful, he hadn’t been told the full story.
Molly Holloway, CEO Holloway Heavy Industries
Cal knew Molly better than likely anyone he ever met and, because of that, he knew that the woman he loved more than anything in the universe was hurting… badly. Slowly, Harris took Molly’s hand in his and after a deep breath said as gently as he could. “Molly… you might have been any amazing Spook…” He smiled, a soft chuckle escaping him. “… but, you lie like a cheap rug… at least to me. Please, be honest…” There was a hurt in his eyes but also the strength the woman had grown to love and respect shining behind those dark blue eyes. “… how bad is Lucas? And how did I end up in this bed?”
A faint smile settled on her lips at Cal’s words, her hand squeezing his tightly but not enough to hurt him. Molly eyed the heart rate monitor again, hoping that she could soften the blow as much as possible.
After a moment, he smirked… adding. “You can either tell me…” He coughed slightly, still forcing his voice to near full strength. “… or I’ll order Devri to tell me. Your call my love.”
Calvin Harris, CCDA Commandant
Molly sighed, patting the back of Cal’s hand as she did so. She knew that, if she told Devri that keeping Lucas’s true condition from Calvin was for his own good, the CCDA General would side with her. However, Cal would know sooner or later, and postponing it would either worry the former Marine or anger him, both of which would only cause his heart rate to go up as well.
Laying back on her chair, Molly crossed her legs, trying to seem as relaxed and nonchalant as possible. And yet, Cal would know that he had annoyed his other half.
“I take it you don’t remember then…” There was a deep worried tone in her voice. “Maybe that’s for the best…”
“Not a stitch Babe…” Harris said with a soft smile and a groan. “… though, I have to agree… likely for the best.”
“I don’t know exactly how many gaps I’ll be able to fill but I’ll try my best.” Molly’s expression was neutral. It was clear that she was pushing back on her own emotions. Her Intel training clearly coming in handy the past few days even if at times exhaustion had won her over.
The former Marine nodded, his bed slowly sitting him up a bit more… the controller in his hand. “I know you will Molls… take your time.” His voice was gentle and for the first time since he woke up, Calvin Harris sounded like himself again.
“From what I could gather, you and Uncle Luc went out to the station. On your return a missile struck your shuttle. I had just landed back on OED. We felt the impact at the spaceport.” Molly fell momentarily silent as she remembered the panic that had settled on the people around her. “I made it to the scene… Mr…” She pondered for a moment. “… Carlisle I think… from Secret Securities and another lady were already there trying to help. I knew the shuttle better than them though… so I managed to open the door. You were conscious. In fact, you were the one that told me about the missile strike.”
“Well… son-of-a-bitch…” Harris shook his head in surprise. “… I sure as hell don’t remember that! Last I recall, Lucas and I went up to tour the new shipyards and the CCDA accepted the last…” He took a breath and continued. “… the last of the ACS’s patrol ships.” He paused again for a breath then added. “We had brunch at the Holloway Cruiseliner Terminal… and then…” Harris sighed and shook his head again. “… I woke up here. Wow, it’s so frackin’ weird!” Harris paused once more and asked with a pained smile. “So… how much of me got broke?”
Molly sighed again, this time a little more shakily. “You broke both your legs and your left arm. Had a serious bump in the head too… Dr. Eraras says that confusion and even temporary amnesia is perfectly normal, and that memories will gradually come back to you over the course of the next few days and weeks. Oh and…” She smiled softly at Cal. “… you’ll have to go through physical therapy before you’re cleared, and you will do so.” Molly’s eyes meant business. She was way too familiar with the Marine’s stubbornness to let him protest about it.
The glare Molly got was absolutely allll Calvin. Grunting slightly, a smirk crossing his lips. “Don’t lecture me on PT Captain… I’m perfectly fine at taking care… of myself.”
Molly smirked slightly tapping the back of his hand again. “Of course you are, Calvin. Of course you are.” There was a playful gleam in her eye before her expression went somber again.
“Uncle Luc on the other hand…” Her voice faltered for a moment. “… the impact was on his side…” Her mind went momentarily to the man currently being kept sedated across the hall. “He was lucky… very lucky.”
It was Calvin’s turn to sigh. “I was afraid of that. Talk…” There was another pause. “… talk to me Molls. What… what happened to Lucas?” The way the man spoke, it was clear he wanted but also dreaded the answer.
Molly’s hands balled onto fists and Boomer jumped from the bed, walking to her and setting his chin on her knee. Molly patted the old dog on the head.
“His leg was punctured but, from my understanding, it missed the main artery.” This she hadn’t exactly been told by the doctor, but rather she had witnessed when she had pulled the latch open in the downed shuttle. “They had to replace the bones in both his arms… shoulder to wrist.” She continued without looking at Cal, shaking her head slightly. “He’s being kept sedated and under neuroelectrical suppressors and they are looking at 70% chance of recovery right now… but that number should increase the longer he rests.” Molly’s eyes met Cal’s again, and he’d be able to see the exhaustion reflected in them.
The General let out a slow whistle. “Christ Moll…” He shook his head once more, a frown clear on his face. “… you Holloway’s seem to have a thing with getting… yourselves banged up… huh?” He smiled a soft, pained smiled at Molly.
Reaching for Cal’s hand again, Molly forced a shaky smile even though her eyes were damp with held back tears. “Don’t you dare leave me.”
Molly Holloway, CEO Holloway Heavy Industries
Cal squeezed her hand tight in response. “I’m not going anywhere Love…” He smiled warmly. “Hell…” Harris looked back and forth between the two women he loved more than anything in the universe. “… a couple broken bones and… a bump on the head. You both know I’ve survived… worse than this.” He then reached up, wiping tears from both faces. “I’m not going anywhere… I promise.” Molly would hear Ali sob softly into her father’s hand.
Molly knew. In fact, she knew way more than Ali did, and she hoped it remained that way. The fact that she knew that Cal had survived worse was what had made her hold on to the idea that he would survive this as well.
After a few moments, Calvin looked to his daughter and smiled. “Princess… I need to talk to Molly privately… for a minute.” He nodded to the door. “You can come back shortly, I just need to ask Molly… a few questions you don’t need to… to worry yourself with.” Harris smiled as Ali looked ready to protest. “Princess… I need five, maybe ten minutes… tops. Go on. I’m certain Brianna is worried… sick about me. Let her know I’m… awake.” He took a breath and continued. “You girls can come and hang out all…” His eyes strained ever so slightly as he looked at something across the room. “Seriously!? Monday?!? Damn…! I missed OU/Nebraska!” Cal shook his head and continued. “You girls can come hangout all afternoon if you want.” He patted a tear-streaked cheek. “Molly isn’t gonna let me run off… promise.” Ali nodded and kissed Harris on the forehead, then rounded the bed toward the door before stopping and walking back to Molly, wrapping her arms tightly around the woman and softly whispered. “Thanks Mom.” Without another word, she turned and left.
Molly rolled her eyes at the mention of the football game. Yep, he was going to be fine alright.
As Ali walked back to hug her, Molly was at a loss for words. She didn’t see herself as the girl’s mom. In fact, she had ever barely played the part. And yet, here she was. With surprise, Molly half hugged Ali before watching the woman leave the room.
Cal looked at Molly with a glowing smile. “Not the way I’d have wanted it…” A tear ran down Cal’s cheek. “… but I’ll take it just the same.” He reached over, taking Molly’s hand in both of his. “Thank you Molly… for looking after my little girl.” He sighed. “I know she & Jersey were… were likely worried sick. Thanks.”
Molly smiled softly. “I didn’t do that much really… she arrived in OED on the same day I did… It was timing that placed her here.” She smirked. “Hudson was livid when she saw her come into the hospital. Although to be fair, she was livid when I came too…” Molly shrugged before nodding. “Yeah… Jersey and Ali never left the hospital at all… Oh, before I forget… Only two visitors are allowed in the room at any given time. Although, if you don’t mind, now that I know you’re getting better, I might spend more time in Uncle Luc’s room… I…” Molly’s words faltered as she pondered what how to word what she wanted to say. “I want to make sure he’s safe.”
After another breath, Cal slowly raised the bed to sit up a bit more and after clearing his throat… asked with a smirk. “So, when’d that damn boyfriend of yours… show up and… how close are we to… finding these bastards?” He had a smirk but Molly could tell by his eyes that while his body was tired, the General’s mind was fulling back online… iiiif… missing a few days.
General Calvin Harris, CCDA
Molly’s eyebrows rose in surprise at the question, but nothing in her demeanor changed, telling him one way or the other. “Ryan? Why would he be here?” Holloway wasn’t stupid enough to think that Cal, having gone through the same Intel training years before, hadn’t put two and two together and figured out that York likely kept an eye on her. However, admitting that Ryan was on planet, meant admitting that Starfleet Intelligence was involved in the investigation, and it likely also meant having to disclose to Cal the identity of the people behind the attack, namely, that of Ashley Newton. He would know in its due time, but not right now. Not only because Cal would likely take it upon himself look for the woman, as the matter was heavily classified, and not only was Molly not at liberty to discuss the subject, as that same knowledge could reveal her still very much active status as an Starfleet Intelligence Officer – something that Calvin was completely unaware of, and that Molly wanted to keep that way.
“Security has been increased ten-fold since the attack, and anyone leaving or getting to OED will be under heavy scrutiny. They managed to track the origin of the missile to the top of a building about a kilometer and a half away from the crash site…” Molly sighed more out of tiredness than anything else. “If I’m being honest, I’ve been leaving the investigation to those who have the power to do so… I’ve been more worried about being here. I just asked that they keep me informed, so now that you’re awake you’ll be the first to know once I know more.”
As far as Harris would be able to read on her body language and way of expression, Molly wasn’t lying. However, it was very atypical for her to leave an investigation like this to anyone else but herself.
Molly Holloway, CEO Holloway Heavy Industries
Harris sat up just a little further, looking Molly now straight in the eye… the heart monitor indicating he was actually becoming annoyed. “Look Molls… I might have been born on a Tuesday, but not last Tuesday!” He huffed. “If York is on this planet, I have the goddamn right to know! I’m stuck in this frackin’ bed unable to do jacks@$# for the next couple weeks and you honestly expect me to sit here, doing nothing… that YOU are going to sit here doing nothing!?!” It had been quite a while since Molly had seen Calvin visibly upset and a first for it to be directed at her. “There isn’t a chance in hell of you sitting on your little ass and do nothing after Lucas and I got blown out of the goddamn sky! Not unless you had someone you explicitly trusted to handle it for you… and I’m in this frackin’ bed! That means York is your point on this! I don’t give a damn if anyone else knows that he’s here or not Molly… I am still the military commander of this entire damn system and if SFI is snooping around on my planet…” His fist came down hard on the tray table beside him. “… I am in my right to know!”
Looking with concern at the heart rate monitor, Molly crossed her arms over her chest and tried to keep the most neutral stance possible. Ah… here we go…
There was a challenge in Harris’ eyes Molly had rarely even glimpsed and never at her. They had fought and shouted and cussed like any couple… but Calvin wasn’t speaking as her partner, lover, or fiancé. He was speaking as a military commander and someone that expected his authority to be unquestioned. “Now… you can either tell me the truth… that Ryan York is actively hunting for the people that did this in your stead…” The muscle in his jaw flexed tightly. “… or else I’ll order Sam to initiate the ACS’ Tachyon Pulse System and uncloak that damn ship of his for the whole planet!”
For a split second, the worry was visible in her eyes. Molly knew that he was likely bluffing, but the implications of uncloaking the Thresher were big enough for Ryan that Molly didn’t want to think about them.
After taking a steadying breath, Calvin sighed… looking apologetically at Molly. “Look…” He shook his head. “… I trust York to handle this… because you trust him. I can’t say I’m ready to do cartwheels at the fact my partner’s former lover is in the small star system…” He chuckled softly. “… but the man is good at what he does. I don’t want… hell… I don’t need to know what he’s up to and how he gets the job done. But please Molly… respect me enough to be honest. I know he’s here, you know he’s here. I just want to hear it from you…” He sighed once more. “… and not feel like you’re hiding something from me. Trust me Molly… I can keep my damn mouth shut. I went through the same training. But if I have that kind of an asset on the ground on OED, I would like to know. You two can go get these bastards and I don’t need details. But I also have a responsibility to keep both this planet and you safe and…” Harris suddenly looked chest-fallen. “… it really kinda hurts that every time I should be there for you… and I can’t… he is. So please… just be honest with me this one time… and I promise, I won’t ask again. I don’t need details. All that I ask is… when you two catch them… I’d like to shake his hand and thank him personally.”
General Calvin Harris, CCDA
It really kinda hurts that every time I should be there for you… and I can’t… he is. The words lingered for a moment in her head. So this is what this was about. Jealousy.
Molly sighed. Her arms still crossed over her chest. Cal knew her well enough to know that he had annoyed her. “You’re not ready to do cartwheels at the fact that my ‘former lover’ is in the system…” Molly added air quotes before returning her arms to their crossed stance. “Really, that’s your problem? But somehow I have to endure Devri being on your personal staff, right?” Her tone was low, almost a snarl. She huffed, visibly not pleased by his words.
“That was nearly 15 years ago Molly! Don’t start that bull**** with me!” Harris fired back, equally annoyed at the completely unnecessary comparison. “You know as well as I do that Hudson is a damn fine officer and does an outstanding job!” He glared back, red tinges visible on the tops of his ears. “But at least you know where Devri frackin’ is!” The General boomed. “Whereas with York… I don’t get even that goddamn courtesy!”
“You’re turning into your father, Calvin, and I am not you or your mother, so I strongly suggest you lose the attitude.” Chewing on her lip for a moment, Molly continued. “Yes, Ryan is on the planet. Happy?” Her eyes flashed with anger in a way that would tell the former Marine that he had crossed a line. Over the course of the five years that they had been together, Cal had been on the receiving end of many glares from his former Chief Intelligence Officer, but not once had he seen the scowl Molly was currently giving him directed at him.
Calvin looked like Molly had slapped him at the comparison to him becoming his father, the man who’s temper was starting to flare looked as though he’d had a bucket of ice dumped over his head. “That was a very cheap shot Molly and you damn well know it!” He sighed, his volume markedly lower. “As for Ryan, yes… I am. I wish you’d act like I’m a bit more trusted than he is. I’m not just your partner Molly… I’m responsible for the military defense of an entire planet… so yeah, even if he is here just to do my job, a heads up would be nice!”
“You know…” Anger flashed in Molly’s stare. “Ryan’s here because he knows that I’d kill myself looking for whoever is behind the attack. Because whoever did this attacked you. I don’t need to be kept safe, I don’t need to be protected. You know, I tolerated this from Halloway three days ago, when she and Hudson forced me to go home. But I sure as hell am not tolerating this from you. We’ve been through enough together for you to know this.”
Calvin sighed once more, wincing as the hand he normally ran through his hair when nervous hit the remnants of the large goose egg from the crash. He opened his mouth to speak but did get the chance.
Standing up from her seat, Molly stated. “I’m going to see how Uncle Luc is doing.” What she really meant was that she needed time alone with her own thoughts. “By the way, your sister called. She’s on her way, and so is Manning.”
“Oh for the love of God!” Harris fell back on the bed, hand to forehead. “When are they…”
“If you need me, I’ll be across the hall.” And with that, she left the room telling Alexis and Jersey on her way out that if they wanted, they could go in.
Molly Holloway, CEO Holloway Heavy Industries
Moments after Molly walked out, Alexis and Jersey entered into Calvin’s room… Boomer bounding happily first to Ali then Jersey. “Daddy…” Ali said, concern in her voice. “… is everything OK?” Harris sighed and shook his head. “Everything’s fine Princess… Molly and I just had a disagreement on some info regarding the investigation but that’s not important right now.” Sitting up, Harris smiled at his daughter. “Your Aunt Tori will be here in a few days…” Harris began before shifting to Jersey. “… so are Captain Manning and likely Lord Manning will be with her.” Both girls’ eyes lit excitedly. “Brianna, I want you to coordinate with General Hudson so we have Security Details ready for anyone coming. Once Molly has cooled off a bit…” Harris looked noticeably sad. “… I’ll make sure I don’t have any other surprise guests and Jersey I expect you to take it from there.” Reyes smiled brightly. “Whatever you need Pops… happy to help.” Harris smiled back at his ‘bonus daughter’. “I know… that’s why I asked. Now… you take your sister and go get some lunch… I’m certain she hasn’t eaten much in days.” Ali opened her mouth to protest but Calvin cut her off. “Baby… I’m fine. I’m wide awake and Molly would likely kill anyone trying to hurt me or Lucas on sight at this point. You girls go grab a bite and catch up.” Both girls nodded before walking to the bed and both giving the man likely the tightest hugs he’d ever received. “Go on now.” He smiled as the two young women headed out.
