Old friend? This man was no friend of his that he was aware of. Friends for him were few and far between and he was certain he had never met this man in his life. But Lai’s life hung in the balance.

“Please, she needs help,” he pleaded, hoping that the sense of urgency would override the little fake reunion about to occur. Blood now had started soaking his clothes. The Terran moved towards him with a sense of concern.

“She’s bleeding out! The nearest medical facility is a bit of a travel from here. I’ve got a medical wing, but as you well know I’m fresh out of doctors. You can stick her up in there doc, let’s hurry.” After speaking, the man had a look of recognition appear across his features, which then turned into utter bewilderment and confusion. “Akem, are you still a doctor?”

It was Akem’s turn to give a look of confusion. “No! That’s why she needs to get to a major medical facility!”

The man shook his head in disbelief, but eventually just accepted his fate. He threw his hands up in the air and gestured to the port. “Get in. Oed V is going to be a bit of travel. Best I can do is see that she gets into cryo stasis. We still have 3 working pods at the moment. Come on!” The man then darted through the entry way and onto a ship Akem had never been on in his life.

Once they were both inside the docking doors, Conrad slapped the button to shut them. He then wheeled to see Kanok with his weapon still drawn now growling. “Kanok, put it away! It’s Halai and Akem. She’s seriously injured. Let’s get one of our cryo tubes ready for her to be put in stasis. We’re going back to Oed first.”

Kanok put his weapon away and glared at Conrad with a slight growl.

Conrad spoke up again. “Look, we don’t have a choice. They can wait a little bit longer for their shipment. I’ll…get them on comms and let them know we’ve been delayed.”

Kanok sighed and turned on his heels and left the area.

Conrad then turned to Akem. “Let’s go!” he said before booking down the corridor to their medical wing.

Water lapped gently as the sides of the hand carved boat. Warm sun beat down on her face and Lai tipped her head up, soaking it in. It was peaceful here, but something was amiss and she couldn’t quite place her finger on it. Her korsiolo, that deep internal knowing was buzzing despite her calm. The river was guiding her forward as far as she could tell, but she wasn’t progressing forward. She was stuck. With each paddle she tried to get farther along, but the scenery wasn’t changing. What was going on?

Michael immediately stepped into the medical bay and made for one of the nearby computers. Two of the three cryo tubes were already prepped. The third one was malfunctioning and was down until it could be repaired.

Conrad popped open one of the tubes. There was a hiss and very cold air escaped from the pod. A rather long platorm rose from the smokey air within.

He gestured to it, saying, “Just get her laid out on there. Once she’s in cryo stasis, she’ll be good to go until we reach Oed V.”

Michael watched as Akem quickly moved over to the tube and gently placed her ont he platform. He carefully laid her out in organized fashion and then stepped back. Conrad then lowered her into the tube and it sealed shut.

He then pulled out a modified disruptor and pointed it at Akem.

Akem seemed quite taken aback. “What’re you doing? Don’t do this! If you’re being paid off, tell me and I’ll make sure you get double that for letting us live. At the very least, keep her alive!”

Conrad smiled as he then acccessed the computer yet again to open the second working pod. With another hiss the pod was ready for someone to step in.

“You can either go in their willingly and we’ll get you back out at Oed, or I can shoot you as you run away. Choice is yours.”

Akem looked at the stasis pod and then back to Conrad. “How can I trust you? How do i know you won’t abandon us? How do I know you’ll wake us when we get there:?”

Michael chuckled. “Oh! I have nothing to offer you that would make you trust me. Just my word. Again, feel free to try and escape!” he said humorously as he pointed it at him.

It was clear that the deltan had very little choice. He seemed to reluctantly give in and made his way onto the platform to be lowered into the tube just like Lai had.

Akem was in a panic. He had no idea who this man was. There was no indication the man would keep his word. But, he did sense something. This man, Conrad, was just as freaked out as he was. This man seemed to somehow recognize them. Perhaps it was enough. Perhaps he could take the risk.

Akem went to the platform and prepared for his stasis. He briefly looked to Lai in her pod, sending a mental image of a tender kiss between them before the platform enacted his own decent.
