Mia had finished all her preliminary return objectives and now headed to the Governor’s office to speak with him in person and find out what he wanted from Star Fleet Engineering Department. She greeted the secretary and gave her name and waited for the Governor to be available.

The receptionist nodded politely and pressed an icon on her desk display. “Commander, the Governor will see you now.” she said pleasantly. To the left of the desk two large, ornately carved wooden doors swung out and open revealing the office at the top of the Government Tower.

The room beyond was spacious and white. Walls of glass from the left of the doorway gave an uninterrupted view of the city as they wrapped gracefully around the far corner of the room and then continued on out of sight behind a three-quarters-high wall that extended from the far right corner of the room about three-quarters the length of the entirety of the space. Set into the wall was a fireplace, in front of which was a large seating area with a low table surrounded by couches and chairs. In the far left corner of the glass walled side of the room was a desk on a raised section of floor with two broad, curved steps leading up to it. Set at an angle with two chairs before it, the lone occupant of the room seated behind the desk looked up as the door opened.

The figure appeared human, save for the eyes. Terran Asian features surrounded jet black, obsidian-looking eyes. Long, black hair flowed down the back of the figure halfway to their waist. Dressed in a dark red suit with a deep blue paisley shirt under the vest, the figure stood and smiled. “Lieutenant Commander Salazar-Murphy, I take it … a pleasure. Please have a seat, won’t you? I am Governor Kenzo B’tren-Hyrushi.” and he held out a hand to the officer.

Mia took the pro offered hand “You’re correct, I am Mia Salazar-Murphy.” She said after shaking his hand and taking a seat “I see exciting things in the works here.” She said “How can Star Fleet Engineering be of assistance?”

Hyrushi gave her a half-smile and then said “And here I was about to ask how the colonial government could assist your department, Commander.” and he chuckled softly. “I can say that you will have your work cut out for you. We are expanding very rapidly. In fact, I can say that it is my goal to have us outside of the dome within the year. What do you think of that objective, Commander?” he asked, paying attention to the officer’s emotions as he gave her the news.

Hyrushi, Governor

“It’s ambitious.” Mia said “Doable but ambitious.” She seemed keen about what his plans were “What ever we can do to help with this we will.” She said.

Kenzo thought for a moment and then said “Well… might I suggest getting as large a head start on the planetary atmospheric shields power grid as you can? We will be receiving substantial assistance with the shields themselves from Halloway Heavy Industries, but if Star Fleet wishes to assist, I won’t say no to the help. Additionally, once you are settled and have had a chance to speak your new Commanding Officer, the three of us should discuss what plans Star Fleet has for expansion of their presence on the colony and whatnot. What are your thoughts as to that?”

Hyrushi, Gov.

Mia thought for a moment “Star Fleet has many things they could do. On my previous assignment to the OED, Star’Fleet Engineers were responsible for pretty much everything that needed fixed.” Mia said “I think Star-Fleet will take their cue from you as to what is needed.” She said

Kenzo nodded thoughtfully and then was silent a moment before he spoke. “Well, Commander… I will say that my goal is for a more independent and self-sustaining colony. I am very aware of all that Star Fleet has done for OED. But I am also aware that should needs arise elsewhere, for instance should another war come to be, then we will be left to fend for ourselves as those needs dictate. My purpose here is to ensure the colony is safe and successful. For that to be, we cannot… will not… remain beholden to Star Fleet to be our main support. To that end, we have opened up mining and refinery operations to their full capacity. Trade and commerce have increased, and we are now the home of Holloway Heavy Industries and their entire corporate and manufacturing holdings. With this increase in growth comes more people, more shipping, and more overall activity. Yet we have seen no change in Star Fleet’s commitment to the colony… no increase in personnel, ships, or infrastructure support. So if you are looking for a ‘cue’, as you say… perhaps you could encourage Star Fleet to take another look at the strategic importance of OED. Specifically in the matters of habitat expansion and terraforming initiatives?”

Hyrushi, Governor
