It was time. Not that Jordar minded that he had a civilian boss or that he had to put up with that damned Director of Education, he hated first meetings. From what he had gleaned from the Governor’s file he was a distinguished diplomat who had extensive dealings with the Cardassians, Bajorans, and the Maquis. He also had worked as as a chief negotiator to bring wayward colonies back into the fold. All of that reeked of politeness and hiding one’s true feelings on a matter. Diplomats always rubbed Jordar the wrong way. No matter really, he was the highest ranking Starfleet officer on the colony and had a ship at his disposal. Not that he was personally allowed to command it given the conditions of his promotion to Captain for this job, he’d have to figure that little issue out soon enough, but for now he was going to be himself as always and see how the Governor reacted. Knocking on the door, Jordar awaited his permission to enter.

The large, ornate wooden doors swung out and open. The room beyond was spacious and white. Walls of glass from the left of the doorway gave an uninterrupted view of the city as they wrapped around the far corner of the room and then continued on out of sight behind a three-quarters-high wall that extended from the far right corner of the doorway about three-quarters the length of the room. Set into the wall was a fireplace, in front of which was a large seating area with a low table surrounded by couches and chairs. In the far left corner of the glass walled room was a desk a a raised section of floor. Set at an angle with two chairs before it, the lone occupant of the room seated behind the desk looked up as the door opened.

The figure appeared human, save for the eyes. Terran Asian features surrounded jet black eyes. Long, black hair flowed down the back of the figure halfway to their waist. Dressed in a dark gray suit with a deep red paisley shirt under the vest, the figure stood and smiled. “Captain… a pleasure. Please have a seat, won’t you? I am Kenzo B’tren-Hyrushi.” and he held out a hand to the officer.

Jordar stood firm his hands behind his back as he locked eyes with the man. “Mr. B’tren-Hyrushi, you should know one thing before we get started. I am Zaldan, which you would know if you had read my file, and greeting me in such a way is akin to me insinuating that you’re nothing but a Regalian slime beetle propped up in it’s hold overseeing it’s field’s of dung for which it holds court.” He then grabbed the man’s hand and shook it, simply giving his name “Jordar”.

He stood in his dress uniform, light olive skin with what would be mistaken for east Mediterranean features. Opposed to the Governor, Jordar’s hair was a short, tightly cut head of black curls. He entered the room and chose one of the couches on the left and took a seat, sitting at attention but not stiffly. He had purpose but wasn’t uncomfortable.

If Hyrushi took offense, it was completely unnoticeable. But he did say “And you should note that your culture’s predilection to be irritated by courtesy plays no part in our dealings and you can leave it at the door from here on, or find a new assignment. My culture considers propriety to be very important, and the last time I checked this was my office.” and he shook the hand once and dropped it, taking a seat. He had dealt with Zaldan’s before, and the reaction was not unexpected. But better to deal with it up front. “Now that we have that out of the way… I was about to have tea. If you would like some, you are welcome to it. If not, thats fine as well.” and he pressed an icon on his desk interface.

“Now tell me about yourself, Captain. I am eager to know who I will be working with.”
