“That is a very warm and inviting aroma, I must say. Are we partaking? Or are we going to continue the tour and then lunch?” they asked and looked at Kaili with a smile. “Because I think I could be tempted to try to do both.” and they laughed.

Karilan

“I was thinking we could have a cup of tea and maybe some cookies now before we continue the tour and then have lunch afterwards, if that’s okay for you?” Kaili suggested with a warm smile as she walked over to the counter to pour them both a cup of tea. If that was what Karilan wanted, of course.

“That sounds splendid, actually.” they replied with a smile and moved into the kitchen and pulled out one of the stools for her, politely pushing her forward as she sat down and then sitting themselves. They raised their cup to her and smiled. “To your most warm and welcoming home… love.”

Karilan

As she lifted her own cup and then took a small sip, Kaili reached for Karilan’s hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. “It feels so good o have you here,” she said softly. Placing her cup back on it’s saucer, she leaned forward and kissed them tenderly on the lips.

Karilan returned the kiss and let it linger for a moment before pulled back slightly and smiling. “You know… it always starts this way. Very small… and then there’s food all over the dining room floor.” and they grinned and laughed softly.

Karilan

“Yes, that seems to be how things go,” Kaili admitted with a gentle laugh, her cheeks turning a faint crimson. “Not that I mind, though we probably should get better about actually eating real food. At least once in a while,” she added with a wink.

Lifting her cup again and reaching for one of the cookies, Kaili asked, “How has your morning been? Is everything still fine with your shop?”

“It is!” Karilan said emphatically. “The staff is both knowledgeable and excited to be there. There are not many people who know the printed page, especially with so many cultures and languages, but the people I found are well educated and seem to be enjoying the joys of sharing their passion with others without the tedium of academia. So it is nice to see. How about you? How is the beginnings of the new position treating you? And what is the Governor like? He seems quite… enigmatic.”

Karilan

“That’s wonderful!” Kaili beamed. “I’m so happy for you!” she added sincerely and enthusiastically. “So far it is mostly administrative work. I scheduled a staff meeting for tomorrow morning. More as semi-formal way to get to know each other better, than an actual planning meeting. And afterwards I want to meet with every member of staff. At least those who report directly to me. Get to know them. Hear about their visions, hopes, plans and also about their fears and concerns,” she continued, her posture and tone changing subtly. “As for the Governor? I’m not entirely sure yet. We have met a few times since I came her and I still find it hard to read him. He seems to be a good and capable person. But also like someone who keeps to himself and doesn’t open up easily. So yeah … enigmatic seems to be a fitting description.”

“An excellent approach to handling your new staff. I hope they appreciate the effort you are putting into them.” and they took a sip of tea. “You know, I reviewed a project that Governor Hyrushi proposed once… longe before he was a governor, that is. It was for a water purification plant. He was a very talented Civil Engineer from what I recall…” and Karilan’s mind momentarily drifted to old Engineering specifications and review meetings. Shaking their head and smiling, they looked at Kaili and said “Sorry… some things I have helped with are stuck in my mind. That was one of them.”

“Never apologise for something like that, dear,” Kaili replied and placed her fingertips tenderly underneath Karilan’s chin. Leaning forward, she gently pulled them towards her and kissed them again. Just as gently as before, yet somehow also with a bit more passion and longing. Fully aware that this might end their conversation and the tour of her apartment for now. But she didn’t care.

Karilan moaned slightly at the kiss, but then pulled away and shook their head. “No no no no… we have a date for lunch. And a tour of your apartment to finish. But maybe after lunch we can come back here and… continue that line of discussion?” and they giggled slightly and blushed.
