With a heavy sigh Eryn opened her eyes again the sound of Vonn’s gait across the floor gaining her attention. She walked out and noticed the dark visor. He was going to sleep. He didn’t appear to be injured, or at least the suit wasn’t. She wasn’t sure how she’d help him if he was. It would take awhile to get the environmental controls to drop low enough for it to be safe to remove the suit. Eryn wasn’t overly familiar with the mechanics of the suit but she did know that it provided practically everything the wearer needed. The gun had been used, and that didn’t surprise her. He’d said he had managed to procure ‘work’. She’d offer to clean the gun for him, weapon’s maintenance was important but she wasn’t dumb enough to go over and take it off his lap. She got a glass of water, fluid being her best friend at the moment and then moved over toward the window, watching the comings and goings around her, getting a feel for the rhythm. Her body probably needed more sleep but it wasn’t going to hurt to stand and be awake for a bit. Later, she’d try getting her brain to wake up and remember more than vague details.

“You are awake.” came the synthesized voice from the helmet.
The visor was now glowing the sickly green color it typically showed, but Vonn had not moved. “I trust you are resting and the doctor has seen to you?”
Vonn
Eryn didn’t figure his statement of the obvious needed a response. “Yes I am resting, and the doctor has been by. I may start stretching and range of motion exercises tomorrow. He suggested moving around as much as I can tolerate. I believe he is worried about muscle atrophy as I was in ‘that locker of theirs’ for so long. He also wanted to know if I was your misbehaved ‘pet’ or you were torturing me for information.” Eryn found this extremely funny, evidenced by the grin on her face. She moved over and sat down on the sofa. “So, tomorrow I will stretch and check my flexibility, and perhaps venture out for a short time. Or pass out from the physical exhaustion first. We shall see, but I will need to do some ‘shopping’ soon. At least to hold me over until Eryn Romanov has fully woken up.” T’Jal had insisted years ago that a persona be made, back stopped, and allowed to, at least on the computer, to live its own life. Eryn was a very successful intel agent for hire, rough, functioning in the shadows and edge of Federation society and ‘good guy’ status. She was also a very good artist. Eryn made several pieces a year and sold them. So one of the first things on the list was materials. It would take a least a month before she could touch any of Eryn’s accounts. The longer she waited the better it was.

“The good doctor is a decent man who found himself in the company of some non-decent people. I assisted him in relocation. For that service, I utilize his medical skills as necessary. There is a market place a few blocks down. Bazaar is more accurate. Many stalls, lots of different items you can purchase. I have some… acquaintances… there, if you are looking for something irregular.” and he patted the rifle on his lap. “I also have a line of more suitable living quarters… once you feel it is safe to move into your new life.”
Vonn
“The doctor was quite polite with an honest sense about him. He even offered to let me adopt a targ puppy. Mostly cosmetics, unless your doctor does physical alterations, clothes and weapons. Your acquaintances I am sure will be helpful for that. I need access to a very secure computer. I need to purchase transport for Eryn out here and make cash out some jobs she’s finished. I can give you the information to do it. She prefers to work through solicitors.” She shrugged, that was necessary. “When I can stay awake for at least 8 hours we’ll start looking. What about you, Kodek? What is Intel up to and their unhappiness with us?”
Eryn Romanov
There was an uncharacteristically long pause before the voice came from the helmet. “I should tell you something. But first, I assure you that Star Fleet Intelligence is not looking for you. Me… that is another story. But I believe that I may have found a way to insulate both you and I from their machinations. The job I did… it was for certain local parties. Influential parties. Parties with standing and the ability to make sure that you and I are undisturbed by Fleet. The catch is, I believe, they may want to make use of you and I. How, I am not entirely sure. But the job paid far too well for what it was. I think it may have been a kind of… audition.”
Vonn
Eryn raised a brow at that and then lowered it. An personality quirk she needed to get rid of. “Some one is looking, that I can assure you, but they are not with Star Fleet.
Not anymore. There is the possibility after I access Eryn’s accounts they will come investigate if the risk is deemed low enough.” At his explanation of the job she shrugged. “It’s the way of things. The question then becomes what did you just audition for? Without that piece of information we can’t really move forward, so we wait. Unless you want to spy on this influential party? The question I put to you however, is do you think whatever job they have it worth the insulation they can provide, or do we need to leave?” Eryn had no way to know nor the information needed to make an informed decision. It wasn’t like her to rely on the opinion of one person and not gather information for herself, but she didn’t have that luxury right now. The one fact she did know was that trusting Kodek Vonn would never be a mistake.Eryn
Vonn was silent for a long moment before the voice said “I… don’t think we should leave. And I think spying on that particular party would be… unwise.” and there was silence again for a moment.
“I was hired by the Governor. Not an agent of… the actual Governor. I was tasked with tracking and eliminating a sentient trafficker. Apparently they had operated on OED for some time, but never broke the law here, so the colony’s justice system had no cause. But the Governor knew who they were. How, I do not know. But I did track them. And I found them dealing with an individual I have dealt with in the past… a slaver. I eliminated both. I then took control of their assets and funneled them to a holding company based out of a warehouse, per my instructions. So I believe that an individual in that position… doing these kind of things… may be someone we could work with… as long as he keeps us off of Star Fleet’s scanners. Your thoughts?”
Vonn
Eryn didn’t answer right away. A person who was willing to take matters that far on their own, with a Star Fleet installation breathing down their neck, was either reckless or well connected, and dangerous either way. Whether they were dangerous to her and Vonn was another question. She didn’t really have a problem with the governor taking matters into his own hands, the universe worked that way. Star Fleet and the Federation could have all the morals, ethics, and laws they wanted, but it was a pretty curtain hiding the necessity and mess that kept it going. “Good people can do good things outside the confines of Federation law and regulation just as much as evil people can work within those laws to do horrible, unspeakable things,” another of those shrugs. “You and I need a place to settle and start over, plan, resupply, and obtain some income. Here is just as good as anywhere else, short or long term. So for now we wait and see what comes of your audition while I finish healing.”
Eryn Romanov
The visor nodded once. “Agreed. Now I believe both of us should rest. And after, if you feel the need for a walk, we can look for quarters more comfortable than a covert safehouse.” Vonn adjusted their bulk against the wall, and the visor slowly faded to dark.
