The Grotto was an upscale restaurant in the financial district of the main part of the city. Secluded, quiet, private, and discriminating; many sought a reservation.Few managed.
Tonight there was a private table reserved for a party of two. The staff had been selected by the Manager specifically to handle this pair. The Sommelier was prepared. The chef was cooking for them himself. The Maitre’D waited with baited breath for the car to arrive.
Across town, there was a knock at the door of the penthouse apartment of one of the tallest residential buildings. The Governor of OED V stood there - black suit with detailed red vest and tie over a black shirt - with two dozen blue and yellow Sythlint roses on his hand.
Kenzo
Sinayda had taken her time getting ready for dinner with Kenzo. They didn’t often dress up and go out, so tonight was special. She’d chosen a rose gold shimmering gown
that looked like liquid metal had been poured over her body, with no back to speak of except for a few places where a very slender tie crossed her skin to hold the thing securely on her form. It was a halter style that hugged her figure and flared toward the bottom. She’d dabbed a perfume she knew he liked on her neck and wrists then slipped her feet into sexy heels. The door chime sounded as she did the last touch up to her makeup and slipped crystal earrings on.
When Sin opened the door and saw Hyrushi, she caught her breath. “You look fabulous, Kenzo. Sometimes I forget how handsome you are because I try not to see you that way—for my own sake.” She stepped out of the way. “Please, come in.”

Kenzo stepped in and gave her a long, appraising glance. He smiled and said “You are as beautiful as ever, Sinayda… perhaps more so.” and held the flowers out to her and gave her a deep bow. Was it necessary? Not particularly. But Kenzo did respect Sinayda more than anyone… and he knew she liked it when he did so.
She took the flowers, drawing in their scent as she watched him bow, feeling the tingling it always inspired. “Thank you for these, they’re magnificent.” Most people would never know, but she loved fresh flowers—always had. But there hadn’t been much time in the life she’d chosen when she could have them around as much as she would have liked. It was a remark made in passing, years ago, but Kenzo had never forgotten and would surprise her, often with a single bloom for no reason at all.
Rising up, he looked appreciatively at the apartment. “I am glad you have had a chance to settle in. The place looks amazing, Sin.” and he looked back at her and smiled and said “Almost as wonderful as it’s resident.” To some, the words would be flattery; perhaps a soft come-on for later. But after years together… as friends, co-conspirators, fellow prisoners, lovers, and fighters in their own rights… it was common knowledge between them that Kenzo did not say things just to flatter. At least, never to her. To her, no matter the pain it caused them or the danger it but either in, his words had been and always would be truth.
Kenzo
Nyx walked across the open area to the kitchen and found a vase. As the water ran in, she placed the flowers inside the cut crystal and fluffed them into a fuller bouquet. “I’m glad you like it. I wanted to see how the other half lives, so I decided to really go for it this time. I’ve spent very little of what I’ve earned over the years so I thought, ‘why not?’” Crossing back into the living area, she set the vase on a table there and admired how it added to the room. Turning back to Kenzo, “Besides, here I can have a top of the line security system that doesn’t run on the same server as the rest of the building, and that makes me feel a lot less at risk.”
Sin walked over to her handsome escort, leaving no distance between their bodies and placed her hands on his chest. “Would you like to have a drink before we go or are we pushing our time constraints?”

Kenzo placed his hands on hers and fixed his eyes on hers. “Tonight, our time is our own. And a drink would most be agreeable. Perhaps a tour, as well?” he asked as he smiled at her. “I would love see how you… ‘go for it’.” and he chuckled, letting go of her hands and allowing her to move past him.
Kenzo
She was grinning as her feet carried her back to the kitchen. A cupboard opened to reveal an unopened bottle of Yamazaki whiskey from Japan. Sin grabbed that and two short, crystal glasses. Yamazaki wasn’t that easy to get anymore, but Kenzo preferred it to any other name brand and she was very aware of that. One of her contacts was under strict orders to keep her supplied with it and a particular kind of cognac too. It would be rude not to have his preferred alcohol on hand and that was something Sin never wanted to be with him.
Once the bottle was opened, she poured each of them two fingers and handed him one of the glasses. “To us and new beginnings…” She held her glass out for the solid ‘clink’ of his against it.

Kenzo tapped his glass to hers and smiled. “… and continued stories.” he added softly. He took a sip and sighed with approval. “Thank you, Sin… I haven’t had any in some time.” and he took another sip. “So… tour? Care to show off your secret lair?”
Kenzo
She took him through the penthouse, room by room, pointing out particular things she was especially pleased with and skipping others. One of the things she was proud of were the traditional wooden doors at the entrance to every room. “They feel more substantial to me.” She said by way of explaining the choice. “And this is the bathroom…” When the lights came on, Kenzo would see a masterpiece of black, gold and white. It was extremely indulgent and luxurious. “You’ll notice the tub is very roomy? Quite enough space for two…” She laughed and perhaps blushed just a bit.

Kenzo flashed her a smile and said “Is that an invitation, Ms. Nyx?” and he chuckled. “It’s no shower in a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere… but I think it would do in a pinch.” and he looked at her, then the tub, then her… and he smiled again. “But we do have reservations, do we not.” and he took a sip of his drink while eyeing her over the rim of the glass.
Kenzo
“Yes we do and I’m looking forward to an entire evening with just the two of us.” They went through the bathroom out through the bedroom and back to the kitchen. Sin tossed back the aged whiskey and set the empty glass on the island. “As far as the invitation for a bath…? Consider it always on the table, any day, any time.” Here she winked, her way of solidifying the agreement. She felt a tightening in the center of her body as her eyes once more appraised the man in front of her. He was beautiful naked and she wasn’t opposed to having him that way again. It had been a long time…

Kenzo drank down the whiskey slowly, but his eyes never left her. Setting the glass down slowly, he moved up to stand against her. “Dinner.... conversation… flirtation… anticipation… then we come back and we can see just how spacious your bath really is. It has been far to long since I was blessed by your touch.” and he bent forward slightly and oh so very lightly kissed her lips, sending just the slightest bit of his desire for her through the contact before pulling away and smiling at her.
Kenzo
Sin’s eyes stayed closed as she savored the touch and the emotion Kenzo shared with her. When she finally did open them, he was smiling—so was she. “We should go then. The sooner we have dinner, the sooner we can return here for dessert.” She could already feel the anticipation in her body as she stepped over to the counter to fetch her small bag for the night. There was no place to hide a weapon on her body—the dress was far too slinky for that, so the bag would have to do. What it contained would work in a pinch.
Hooking her arm through his, she headed to the door. “So this place we’re going, do they have a specialty?” There was no doubt it would be nice, exceptional even, but some eateries had a signature dish.

Kenzo smiled and said “They are known for their seafood… shellfish, especially. Hearing that, I met with the chef and he and I prepared a menu specifically for tonight. I think you will like it.” He escorted her out of the apartment and to the lift. They rode down, Kenzo not discreetly looking at her in the dress and smiling. “You know… any more tantalizing and we may not have made it to dinner.” he teased.
At the ground floor, he led her outside to a waiting ground car. It was non-descript, like hundreds of others in the domed city, but it was quite comfortable. As the driver opened the door, Kenzo nodded and said “Thank you, D’ren.” and he let Sinayda enter first before taking a seat next to her in the back. He took her hand in his and smiled.
Kenzo
“Seafood…I’ve eaten my share of fish, but other things from the sea are not as familiar. I’m looking forward to seeing what you two came up with.” The feel of his body touching the side of hers was lovely. He was solid and warm and so…elegant. “I really appreciate you taking me out, Kenzo. We don’t get much down time and its very thoughtful for you to take a free evening and spend it with me.” The two of them shared a special bond, something very different from what Sin had ever experienced before.
After a short ride, they arrived at the Grotto. He was the first one out of the limo and he offered a hand down to help her egress from the vehicle in a ladylike manner. Wrapping an arm around his waist, she smiled up at him with anticipation. The night was going to be splendid, she knew it.

bump
Kenzo walked her into the restaurant. Immediately, the maitre’d stepped forward. “Your Governance, sir! Welcome! Welcome to the Grotto! We are delighted to have you dining with us this evening.” they said and then their voice dropped in volume somewhat. “Per your request, we have a private booth for you and your companion.” and their eyes looked Sinayda up and down.
“Wakagashira, not companion. She is worth far more to me than mere company, thank you.” Kenzo said flatly. The host nodded. “My apologies, Madame Wakagashira. Please, follow me.” The host led them through the restaurant. It was dimly lit, but each table had a softly glowing lamp on it. The seating circled a large stone with water running down the surface that fell into a small pool, lit from above with soft blue lighting. It was to the pool that the host led them. Placing his hand on the rock, the pool base rose and then spread open, revealing a path set into the rock itself. Kenzo walked them inside… to a private room with a single table. The only seating was a booth-type bench, soft and inviting. Kenzo allowed Nyx to sit first, then sat next to her, the pair of them facing the ‘doorway’. The host smiled and said “The Chef will be in in a few minutes. Your champagne is on it’s way now. Bon appetit.” and they left the room.
Kenzo looked at Sinayda and smiled, his ebony eyes shimmering in the soft light. “It’s no Norvellian tavern in the middle of nowhere… but I hope you like it.”
