Longstreet had went back to his office after James had left. The man was treacherous and dangerous. Worse he may even believe in his role in SFI and had came across like a zealot of some sort or a sociopath. At any rate he could not change the past and he had gotten the best assurance he could that Apolloinia would not become a target of Intelligence any more than she might already be for being a master thief and con artist.

Longstreet COS

About this time the Captain walked in. As all staff in the Security Office were on duty and considered under arms they did not have to stop and come to attention. They were “As you were”. However his presence and usual absence from the SP made them all stop for a second and then get back to work. The Captain smiled a little at them and made it Longstreet’s office. The door was locked open.

“Lt. Cmd. How are you.” He said as he peered in.

Longstreet looked up at the Captain.

“Come in Sir. Take a load off.” He said. Longstreet was a casual officer and not as stoic as his boss.

Xavier and Longstreet

Xavier did not say anything and just sat. He and Longstreet were old friends by now as far as Star Fleet went.

“Just doing some rounds. Anything interesting?’ He asked.

“Just you scaring my team.” Longstreet said lightly.

He was not about to tell the boss about Lt. James and that whole thing. He knew Xavier had a skeptical eye on Apollonia and truth be told probably wasn’t sad she had left recently.

Longstreet and Xavier

“We should work up here more. We seem to spend too much time in the government building. With the new Governor maybe he will run the show more and let us get back to basics.” Xavier said.

“I vote for that but I have seen your schedule. I doubt that will happen.” Longstreet said back.

“Well I’m the boss so I will make it happen.” Xavier said half joking. “Anything new happening?”

“Nothing much.” Longstreet answers.

Xavier and Longstreet

“Longstreet you think we have become relics on Oed?” The Captain asked. ” I see the new Governor and I’m not sure. I see new faces and I’m not sure if our idea of Oed is theirs nor which is the right one?”

Xavier

“Sure to some degree we are getting out of date. Its always like that isn’t it?” Longstreet agreed. “I mean its just generational. Soon enough one of my junior officers will start to tell me about being a more community based security force. Like that’s even a a new idea. Then civilian leadership will thrust new and foreign concepts our way and we look at them like the fools they may be. You know we are SF and SF has issues with change.”

Longstreet

“Hey Boss. How tight of a rein do you have on Intel Officer James?” Longstreet asked easily. “That guy seems to play loose and wild with moral concepts even for Intel. I’m not sure about him.”

“Well not very tight. He avoids my radar like most Intel. His mission orders are not within my purview but his conduct as a SF officer is. Does he need a realignment on who runs the security and order around here?” Xavier asked.

“Nah I just wanted to see if you have any other take on him than I did.” Longstreet said blowing it off.

Xavier knew his Security Chief had just given him a heads up so he would heed it.

Xavier and longstreet

Xavier gave him a half nod as if to say he understood.

“How is everything on your end?” Xavier asked.

Xavier

“Its good. I mean if you’re asking about my persona life as well its ok too. Apollonia, as you know, has left. Her usual wham bam here I am and now I am gone routine. We are both accustomed to it and honestly its for the best.” Longstreet answered.

Longstreet

Xavier said nothing. He did not really know Apollonia but he did see her file. It was an add pairing when she was around and in this case it usually brought Longstreet more trouble than he needed.

Xavier

Captain what’s next for us here. You getting the feeling we are just recycling things now?” Longstreet asked.

Longstreet

“It’s been on my mind as well. I mean its nice to think in the we but your not tied to me in this assignment.” Xavier answered.

Xavier

“Boss I have never had it so good. I have found a way to make a mistake in every assignment I have had. I would like to continue the good times.” Longstreet said only have joking.

Longstreet

“Let’s wait and see. We still have a job to do here.” Xavier responded.

In reality if he was to get a ship he would find a way to get the land loving Longstreet on as his COS at a minimum.
