Taking a breath and exhaling, he watched the car turn quickly around and speed away. “Oh, sorry… I forgot to introduce you. Where ever are my manners, I wonder?” and he smiled, bloody teeth adding another level of maliciousness to his look.Seamus McKenzie
Cuyler grinned, “Right where they should be, can’t say I missed much by not being introduced.” Helka laughed, placed one hand on his cheek and turned his face to hers and inspected the damage. Standing up she kissed his cheek and walked over to the rain barrel, grabbing a cup and dumping the contents. She scooped water out of the barrel and brought it to him. “Rinse your mouth, and then give me that shirt. It’s got their blue blood all over it.”
Seamus stripped the shirt off and handed it to her wordlessly. He swished the water in his mouth and spit, cascading bloodied water onto the ground.
Oddvar and Devlin came from behind the house as soon as the car was out of sight. “Seamus if it’s alright with you, Devlin and I are going to go hunt dinner, and find a place to pitch the tents.” He still had a bottle of the whisky and passed it to Seamus.
Seamus nodded. “Red deer to the east, rabbits all over. No stags, though. I am Game Warden, after all.” and he winked and then took a big mouthful of whiskey and winced. Swallowing, he stuck a finger in his lower lip and ran it around, pulling out the bloody digit. “Second one had a hell of punch, he did. Really hurt…” and he took another drink, holding it in his mouth to numb the cuts.
Helka took the shirt and moved through the garden grabbing sprigs of different things. Oddvar chuckled, “That would be why I asked lad. Don’t need to go offended my nephew first time I set foot in his home.” He chuckled again and then passing the large double headed axe back to Cuyler he jerked a thumb at Devlin, “Come on Devlin, get that gear out of yer pack and let’s go.”
Ada came out of the house placing her and Kirsten’s packs off to the side and glanced around at the group and then made a bee line straight for Helka. She glanced from Helka to Seamus. “Jeg beklager klanmor, Marshall. Hvis jeg ikke kjente Ragna bedre, vil jeg si at hun får et panikkanfall. Det er alt Kirsten kan gjøre for å holde henne i sengen. Hvis hun ikke har skadet seg, er det av Friggas egen velsignelse. (I’m sorry clan mother, Marshall. If I didn’t know Ragna better, I’d say she’s having a panic attack. It’s all Kirsten can do to keep her in the bed. If she hasn’t injured herself, it’s by Frigga’s own blessing.)”
The Edmans
“Jeg skal gå. Hvis mennene kommer tilbake med hjort, trenger vi et spytt for å steke dem på. Hvis dere alle vil sørge for det, vil jeg se til Ragna.” (I’ll go. If the men come back with deer, we’ll need a spit to roast them on. If you all will see to that, I will see to Ragna.) Seamus said and stood up. Swallowing the whiskey and then rinsing his mouth with water one last time, he picked up his sword and walked into the house.
Kirsten walked outside as soon Seamus walked in. She was afraid Ragna had torn more muscles arguing and fighting with her like she had. She understood Ragna’s need to stand beside him, but at the same time Ragna needed to be still. That was a hard enough concept for her under normal circumstances. Devlin grabbed a bow and quiver from his pack and stopped, kissing Kirsten till she was muddle headed and then laughed, “Tell your sister to stop ogling Seamus or Ragna might really go off the deep end.”
Helka walked over and hugged Tara when she came out. That whole scenario couldn’t have been easy on her either. Then Helka had them all put to work setting up a spit and fire outside and sending the girls to go pitch tents just inside the tree line.
He looked at Ragna and said “Wife, ease yourself. I’m here, they’re gone, and I want you to rest. I need you healthy.” He sat on the edge of the bed next to her and said “How are we supposed to be frisky with you wincing in pain all the time?” and he smiled at her.
Tara stood up and shook her head, smiling. “On that note, I’ll go see what I can do to help the others get settled.” and she walked outside.
Seamus
Ragna went still as the massive frame of her husband sword in hand filled the door way. She had that strange sense time warping again, and they were in the house, but it was different, instead of windows there were small openings where the roof met the walls to let the smoke out, the pattern of the hand made bricks was different, there was no pump at the sink, and instead of dressers there were pegs mounted across the walls. Bonfires could be seen lit outside the door before Faolan closed it. Ragna blinked and it was gone. The sight of Seamus standing there didn’t stop the adrenaline and fight response, as evident by the grip she had on her sword and her rapid breathing, dilated eyes, and increased pulse rate. But her eyes, behind the frustration and anger, were chased by fear.
She waited till Tara left and then she yelling at him. Well as close to yelling as her body would allow, which meant she had to settle for soft sterness. “Hvordan skal jeg hvile når noen gale prøver å drepe oss? Og kanskje det å være frisk ville hjelpe meg til å glemme hvordan det føltes for den mannen å ha hendene over meg! Og siden du ikke kan forstå norsk, kan jeg fortelle deg hvor sint jeg er på deg for å trekke et stunt sånn! (How am I supposed to rest when every time we turn around some crazy is trying to kill us? And maybe being frisky would help me forget what it felt like for that man to have his hands all over me! And since you can’t understand Norwegian I can tell you how mad I am at you for pulling a stunt like that!)” She pushed against his chest, the effect lost as she used the cuff of her sleeve to wipe the blood away from his mouth. “Og nå er du såret, og jeg kan ikke gjøre noe med det. (And now you’re hurt and I can’t do anything about it.)”
Ragna McKenzie
The EdmansSeamus chuckled. “Du vet godt at jeg forstår deg. Og jeg trakk ikke et stunt, jeg beskyttet min kone og hjemmet mitt som det er min plikt. Og hvis du vil bli frisk, så fortell meg det, så låser jeg døren og får Angus til å stå vakt.” (You know perfectly well I understand you. And I didn’t pull a stunt, I protected my wife and my home as is my duty. And if you want to get frisky, then tell me so and I’ll lock the door and have Angus stand guard.) he said and then laughed. He kissed her softly and went to the sink, spit, rinsed his mouth with something from the tincture cabinet, then walked back and sat gently on the bed.
“And I’m not hurt… Ragna. Just got punched. Not the first time, doubt it’ll be the last. Besides…” and he leaned in and smiled with no more blood visible, “… you shoulda seen the other guys.” and he chuckled.
Seamus McKenzie
That wasn’t fair, he was saying her name like that again. How was she supposed to stay mad when he sent butterflies winging around when he said her name? She sighed, he had had blood in his mouth, so either he got hurt or he’d started drinking the blood of his enemies, and Andorians had blue blood. She picked up his hand, rubbing a thumb just below his knuckles, “I would have liked to have seen that.”
She searched his face and gave up. She was angry and frustrated over the whole situation. These people were in need of a good thrashing, so maybe she was a little put out she didn’t get to help. She was eager to give this Argyle and his sister the justice they deserved, she felt silly and useless having to lie in bed for a week (it had only been a day). Mostly she hated sitting there with nothing to do and all she could think about was Tannery’s last question, and the situation played over and over again in her mind and it was making her…agitated and jumpy. She tugged him closer and kissed him. “My hero” she whispered it, teasing him but also serious. “Lås døren, Seamus og bli her hos meg. (Lock the door, Seamus and stay here with me.)” She watched him as he got up, “Actually can we go to the hot spring instead? Just us?”
Ragna McKenzie
Seamus smiled and said “Tomorrow. Promise. For now, you rest, love of my life. The meds the doctor gave you should have you out of pain tomorrow so you can walk. Then I’ll take you to the springs. As for locking the door… lover, as much as I want to, you need to recover a bit more. I will lay with you, though, once we settle in for the night. How does that sound to ya?”
Seamus McKenzie
Ragna just eyed Seamus, “Would it matter if I said it doesn’t suit me at all? You are obsessed with me ‘resting.’” She was in no position to argue with him, and because of the never ending visitors she was tired. And she’d never admit it but she strained all those muscles fighting with Kirsten. She huffed. “Fine, you put something on my sore muscles and I’ll stay in here, be quiet, and rest. But only if you promise no more crazies come to visit.” She shifted slowly looking for the cup of water she had earlier, which was no longer next to the bed. She groaned in frustration. “Seamus, this is ridiculous. I can’t even get water on my own.”
Ragna McKenzieSeamus reached over and picked up the water that had been buried behind the tinctures and ligaments and handed it to her with a smile. “You need to relax. Between the meds and the tinctures, you’ll feel better tomorrow. Hell… you’d have felt better already if you had spent today resting like you were told to.” and he shook his head. “Sometimes you don’t know best. I know… its a shocking revelation. But its true. Now drink your water, take off your… my… shirt, and I’ll rub something on your stomach to help ease the inflammation.”
Seamus
Ragna pushed herself up carefully so she could drink the water. She handed the now empty cup back to him and gently pulled the hem of the shirt up one side and then shifting the other. While she worked to get the shirt off without making her self wince she..rambled at him. It wasn’t really rambling but she was not ranting at him. “You know what, I was resting until you and my mother decided I needed to get cleaned up. And then got left in a chair to yak at whoever happened by with all kinds of things to say about what happened. I told you, when you finally came back I was tired and couldn’t sit up anymore. And I rested…slept on that bed you made for me. Which was amazing and we need to do that, often. Then you wake me up because we all need to talk and we get more people sneaking up on us. And he made you go away, like getting to keep my mother was a good substitute for you. But it wasn’t like I was in any position to argue. And I told you after I wanted to go inside and I rested. I think seanmhair was in here the whole time, talking. And I probably need to apologize to her, again, because I have no idea what she was talking about…I fell asleep, again. Only to be woken up by a hyperactive ram in time to see everyone go serious and hide so you can get punched.” She pulled the back of the shirt over her head and laid back down down pulling her arms out of the sleeves. “Yes you did your duty and then some and I’ll not make light of that. But my place is beside you even if I can’t do anything. I don’t like it! I have never in my life felt panic like that…” She stopped herself before saying that was why she never wanted to get involved or be married. It was a moot point and Seamus was worth it to her. “And don’t you go all your shirt on me. I didn’t choose it my mother did and you went along with it.” She looked at him, a good once over in nothing but his kilt. She balled the shirt up and tossed it at him. She wasn’t angry, and the last 36 hours were to serious to call it playful, but that would be the best word. “You put the shirt on and I’ll go topless. Ada doesn’t need more reason to ogle you.”
Seamus laughed and said “She can ogle all she wants, wife. All of me belongs to you and you alone. And you forgot a few things in that timeline of yours. Like trying to get up every time you felt like it. And yelling at me for not letting ya get up. And for trying to grab yer sword and come and stand with me. Honestly, love… it was two Andorians. If I cannae handle that, I’ve no business being Marshall, now do I?” and he chuckled. His eyes fell on her bare chest, and he licked his lips bit didn’t move. He did, however, clear his throat and look away to re focus as she spoke.
She laughed just a little. She was a horrible patient and she knew it. “Aye you do belong to me, but if ya not going to lock the door you can put on a shirt. And I Never said you couldn’t handle it. Only that I wanted to be with you.” A wave of heat spread through her as he stared, and her skin flushed. She tugged at his hand to get him to look back at her and she teasingly asked, “Something wrong....Seamus?”
He looked back at her… then looked back at her… and said “Nae… Ragna… everything is just as it should be.”
She actually laced her hand in his, the Gaelic rolling like a song off her tongue. “Seamus, tha gaol agam ort. Tha fios agam gu bheil e mar dhleastanas ort seasamh eadar an cinneadh agus ge bith dè a dhèanadh cron orra. Tha mi air leth moiteil asad airson sin. Chan eil sin a ’ciallachadh nach cuir e dragh orm fios a bhith agad gum bi thu air do ghoirteachadh. (Seamus, I love you. I know your duty is to stand between the clan and whatever would harm them. I am exceptionally proud of you for that. That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t bother me to know you will get hurt.)” There was more, so much more, but she was rambling like an air headed teenager so she was going to stop, so she could rest.
Ragna
Seamus smiled and said “Ragna… I wasn’t standing for the clan today… I was standing for you.” and he leaned forward and, keeping himself well clear of her sore and mending muscles, kissed her with as much love and desire as he could show.
Seamus
She breathed softly, staring up at him, blue fire meshing with his piercing blue. But this wasn’t anger or attitude, but fire for him. Her voice was soft, indicative of the moment and not her injuries. “I know…Seamus.” Shivers trailed down her spine as her voice caressed his name. “I know.” She kissed him, one hand still holding his and the other over his heart. She melted into it. This she needed. The very real and very solid feel of her husband, rather than the very terrifying memory of that man’s hands on her. She let herself relax, she didn’t strain to reach up to him, try to sit up, or up the ante. She simply existed, letting it consume her and nothing existed except that precise moment.
Ragna
Seamus kissed her for a long time before parting his lips from hers. “Ragna… I love you. But if I lock that door, its nae gonna stop the sounds coming from inside this house. And you’re a loud one and ya make me loud, too. Besides, your uncle and that Devlin fella are going to get a deer and the rest are getting ready for dinner. So unless you promise to be quiet and not get hurt, you and I need to cover ourselves -” and he looked down at her topless form appreciatively, “- before I don’t care what they hear.” and he smiled and laughed.
Seamus
“First of all we won’t be eating for awhile if we’re depending on Devlin and Uncle Oddvar to hunt. My uncle doesn’t move as fast as he used to, so we have time. Second, Kirsten and Ada will be pitching tents out in the woods. Da probably took them to the far reaches of that transporter scrambler to keep an eye out. Da and mum will be leaving soon and that leaves Seanmhair, and I’m pretty sure she already thinks that’s what we are doing.” Ragna grinned at him. “I love you, Seamus, and I’ll promise to be quiet, but not getting hurt all depends on how gentle you are.”
Ragna
Seamus nodded and went to the door. Taking down a large wooden plank, he dropped it in place and then went back to the bedside. “Lets not worry about doing things that could raise the volume, lets just try and make you more… at ease.” and he grinned and pulled back the blankets…
A little less than two hours later, Seamus got up and got dressed. The blankets were back up and covering Ragna, as was a fresh shirt of his. He leaned over and kissed her, and then smiled. “My wife…” was all he said for a moment. Then he brushed her sweat-dampened hair back off her forehead and said “I’m gonna go see how bad this spit set up is.” and he grinned and winked. “You get yourself ready, and I’ll get you a chair made up outside, ok?”
