“Please, Miss Ragna, have seat and make yourself comfortable. Would you like a drink? I have water, milk, and whiskey. And I was about to prepare dinner, and there will more than enough if you find yourself hungry.” Seamus was being polite and hospitable, as tradition dictated, but there was… something… else.
Seamus McKenzie, Trying To Not Screw Up Again
Ragna was totally comfortable in the space and it showed. The lack of technology, the ‘primitive’ nature of the ‘luxuries’ didn’t phase her. It was like being at home. The house was just smaller, well smaller than her parents home. But her father was the Chief and that meant he needed a bit more room. Obviously comfortable with the blade at her back, because she sat without it getting in her way. She really could use a hard drink at the moment, but her Da would flay her alive if she got drunk. “Water please,” unlike others who night only ask if it was “no trouble” after seeing the pump, Ragna did not. She glanced out the window taking note of the position of the sun....8 miles was a long way to walk without a meal, and he was being polite and Revna would take her task for being unnecessarily offensive. “Thank you, I accept. But not to be rude, I just really want to get this package taken care of.” There was honesty, urgency, and a corresponding something else to her voice.
Ragna Edman, I need to play nice…for a bitSeamus pumped water into a wooden mug with hand-banded iron around them. He nodded and said “Aye. Well, let me get the stew on and we can discuss business, if that would be ok?” He handed her the mug and said “Fifteen minutes. Just havta brown the meat and put on the vegetables. Then it can cook while we… talk… get to know each other. Clans joined are clans stronger, after all.” He went back to the counter and quickly and deftly chopped cabbage, carrots, onions, turnips, and potatoes. He then pulled the sheath knife from his belt and began cubing meat, the dark iron blade sliding effortlessly through the freshly dressed parts.
“Aye, that sounds fine. I don wish to interrupt your meal. I’ve waited all week, what’s 15 more minutes?” Clans joined? They, or at least he didn’t know. She nodded slightly, “That is what they say, I say it depends on how the clans are joined.” She fingered the scrolls in the satchel at her side. She sighed, “I would be remise in offering to help, but too many chefs as they say.”
“So tell me… Ragna… did my cousin marrying your sister come as much of a surprise to do as it did to us?”
Seamus McKenzie, Trying to Make Small Talk Amid A Butterfly Swarm
Ragna glanced up at him, doing a once over, her hand twitching, Revna had told her some of it. That she wanted the papers brought to Lady McKenzie to open a dialogue. To try to heal the wound, that Mike was hurting and alone, and Revna just could not stand it. Even though Mike had told her he was fine. Revna was too skilled at what she did to buy that line, and she loved Mike fiercely. “No I don’t think it did. Revna is a very private person, so I was more shocked by the video of her singing in public. But then I talk to my family.”
Ragna, protective baby sister. The knife stopped dead in its tracks. The knuckles on the antler went white. With a single swift motion, the point dropped and the Marshal stabbed the cutting board, burying the blade at least two inches deep. He slowly turned around and his face was red with barely concealed anger.
“So thats what’s this is about, is it? Some shite you gonna try and screw me lad over with, eh?” As he spoke, his vice grew louder and louder. “That it? Who put you up to it, lass? Hmmm? Who sent ya? Argyle? Willam? Harold? You talk to your family, do ya?” By now, he was yelling. “Micheal McKenzie tries ta talk to this family ALL. THE. TIME. And its yiu lot who brush Jim off! Keep him from his Gran with threats and lawsuits and Barristers and Solicitors paid for with McKenzie funds! They think a beautiful woman is gonna distract me from my duty to Micheal and his wife and this Clann??? Well you tell those c^%$s from me I’ll nae be a part of their scheming! I will keep this Clan from their grubby, backstabbing paws of its the last thing I ever do!!” and he slammed a meaty fist on the table hard enough the inches thick and treated wood split.
Seamus McKenzie, Adament… Mistaken, But Adament
Ragna didn’t even blink. She scoffed, “Well that answers one question. At least ya not with “those cousins” Revna warned me about.” She stood up, hands on the table, and leaned dangerously close. “Get off ya high horse ya d@#$ Scottish brute! Revna sent me here, with a message for Michael’s grandmother. With documents....heraldic support for her. Because it breaks Michael’s heart. No shut your hole and go dunk that hot head of yours in some water. Or maybe go horn wrestle that Ram of yours, your hard headed enough!” She glanced down at the table, “Too bad, beautiful workmanship, you just set the craft master back 6 months minimum.” Her head was pounding, the man really upped her blood pressure.
Ragna Edman, Not impressed
Seamus leaned forward and put himself eye to eye with Ragna. “I built this table.” he said through gritted teeth. “I can break it if I feel like it. In fact, I built this whole d%!$ house. Its mine to do with what I want. Got it?” The smell of her hair hit his nostrils and his anger fluttered and sputtered, and his eyes widened slightky and then he stood up. He turned back to the counter and said “Get out your papers, Ra… Miss Ragna. Food’s almost on.”
He yanked the knife out, swiftly cubed the meat and walked it to the pot and threw it in. It sizzled and popped immediately. He stirred it for a moment, then looked up and picked some herbs from a few dried sprigs hanging near him. A heady herbal aroma filled the room and Seamus went and got the vegetables and in the pot they went. He grabbed the bucket and poured some in the pot and put the lid on. He took a seat across from her and said “So… show me what ya brought us.”
