Kenzo smiled and said “Well, it may come as some surprise to you, Doctor, but I too pursued education in the field of psychology. I earned a dual Master’s degree in Psychology and Civil Engineering before… well… before the war came to my home. Or… at least the beginnings of the war. After school I went home and served as a negotiator between my colony and the Federation and the Cardassians… for what good that did.” and he shrugged. “Had I had my preference, I think I would have liked anything better, actually.” and he stared at his plate for a moment and then looked up and smiled. “Maybe a surfer. Although I don’t know quite how that would work, not knowing how.” and he chuckled.

Kaili nodded thoughtfully here and there as she listens closely and attentively to Kenzo. “There is nothing anyone can do about their past, unless one attempts time travel and that usually gets messy really fast,“ she contemplated earnestly and then winked at the end. “But what we can influence is our present and our future. If you’d rather do and be anything else, why don’t you?“ she asked good-naturedly, but also somewhat provocatively.

“Because this is where I belong. Part of being a member of a society is knowing that you can’t always do and be what you want. Sonetimes… sometimes you have to be what is needed.” and he took a drink.

Hyrushi, Governor

“Fair point,” Kaili replied with a slight, somewhat lopsided bow of her head and a blink of her inner eyelids. Fixing her gaze once more on Kenzo, she continued, “Though only as long as it’s not detrimental to oneself. In whichever way. For we can only serve others and really do what is needed when we are at our best. Feeling … stuck in a situation or job one doesn’t really want … well, no one is at their best in such a situation.” Raising her glass, she took another sip of wine and simply watched him.

“Truth well spoken, Doctor. The real struggle for some, however, is balancing the emotion of not really wanting a job… but still knowing they are very good at it.”

“That’s true,” Kaili replied as she mustered Kenzo closely. After a few moments of silence, she asked, “Is that where you see yourself, Governor?”

Hyrushi’s black eyes sparkled and a slight smile crossed his lips as he sipped some wine.

“As I said, Doctor… surfer.” The waiter arrived and the Governor signed for the meal. “It has been a rare delight, Doctor, but I must attend to some matters of State, as it were. I do hope we can talk again in the future.” and he gracefully rose to his feet and extended his hand.

Kaili shook her head slightly and chuckled ever so softly. The Governor was certainly good at sharing just enough not be rude, but still keeping most to himself and creating the aura of an enigma around himself. Rising to her feet as well, she took his hand and replied with a graceful bow of her head, “It’s been a pleasure for me as well. I’m looking forward to working with you and your government and to repeating this.” At her last words she had made a small gesture with her free hand that encompassed the table and the two of them. “Have a good rest of your day, Governor.”

“And you as well, Doctor. Do take care.” and he bowed and then turned smoothly and left the room.
