She arrived and nodded to the other NEs there, heads down in that quiet conversation mode people have in the wee hours of the morning. She smiled and stepped up to Kord, “Couldn’t sleep?” They kept it professional when in uniform. But since the entire ship knew of them by now, she didn’t mind letting the concern come thru in her voice.

Kord smiled as he continued to watch the displays.

“I don’t sleep very much in the first place.” Kord replied, “A difference in biology, not a health issue.”

With the two talking, the night shift NE at comms spoke up, “..Sir?” She said to Kord. “..Commodore Brians has approved a round of R&R for all personnel. Um....would you mind if I ended my shift early to go see a first premiere of the new space epic in the station’s theater? Bouyo Rogers in the 31st century? I hear the first showing has free real popcorn being given out to celebrate its showing!”

Kord nodded absently.

“Make the announcement and then you can go.” he said. No-one but Kord knew how much control he could exert over the ship on his own.

”..Thank you sir!” She said turning to make the ship wide announcement of the movie showing. Turning back she regarded Kord and Tia “..You know sir you rarely ever get off the ship, maybe you and Miss Tia should go to the showing too!” she suggested.

Tia laughed. “And leave the bridge to you crazies? You would all have the movies showing in here and lottery for who got the Captain’s chair.” She laughed and chucked her chin towards the door. “Go enjoy the movie. And I believe it’s Bucco Rogers.” She laughed once more and leaned on the console beside Kord.

Once the NE left, she glanced to see if anyone else was left before tilting her head to speak to the XO once more. Her voice was low, to not be heard, and to maintain their intimacy in a place where words were about all they had. “I guess I never noticed how little you slept. I’m sorry. You should wake me occasionally. You know I wouldn’t mind keeping you company.” She glanced at the console then back at him. “Were you playing with the static to see how much the console could take before you had to wake up those in engineering to come repair your shorted station?” She smiled teasing him assuming that the ‘change’ she had seen in the screen was merely his energy messing with the console and making it ‘flicker’.

Kord shook his head.

“No. Would it surprise you to know that I can exert some control over the ship’s systems?” he intentionally understated as he continued to watch the data crossing the displays.

Tia smiled and shook her head. “Surprise me, no. Though I admit I had no idea. So that’s the other reason for the shielding in your room. So in a moment of emotional spike,” she said with a mischievous grin, “You don’t suddenly send up to warp 12?” She was teasing him despite the idea being an intriguing one. “Seriously though, I am amazed, indeed. But no, not surprised as much as I probably should be.”

“I can’t push the ship very far past it’s limits, certainly not to Warp 12, but I can do much while appearing not to do anything.”
