Fire red hair, the color of spun rubies and a smile that made you do the same.

That was the first impression Tiastri usually made on people. Hair the color of fire, eyes the color of water, and a temperament that fit both. That was the second impression she usually gave. The young Romani woman stepped off the shuttle and glanced around. Five years at the Academy, then four more years on Earth in the motor pool. She had more than earned her place onto the starship.

While being a female at the Academy hadn’t been such a big deal, being an engineering student had been. There weren’t many females in the field and most went to cushy office jobs or home to cities where techs were needed in the myriad of growing governmental jobs opening up as space became the frontier of the planet.

But Tia had wanted more… Excitement, adventure, mad chaos that forced your mind to work beyond its capabilities. Her father had been appalled, her mother had cried… Her grandmother had given her a blessed good luck charm and seen her on her way. Now here she was..

Glancing around the shuttle bay, small duffle over her shoulder, she gave the bottom of her pristine uniform skirt a tug to settle it and headed for the corridor figuring if anyone was here for her, they’d find her easily enough. Calf high black boots ticking it a simple staccato that tapped in time with the haunting tune she hummed.

He came running and out of breath ‘’Sorry for not being here on time but got caught up in sickbay ‘’he pointed to a plaster across his forehead to prove it. After composing himself the young ensign saluted the female ‘’Lt Tiastril Ezial welcome aboard ‘’ he tried his best to act professional ‘’Shall I help you with your luggage Lt ,as we make our way to your quarters?’’ he asked in a dead neutral tone.

The out of breath ensign too Tia by surprise. “Umm… No worries. And it’s Tiastri, no l ok the end. But call me Tia, it’s easier. Don’t worry about the duffle, I’ve got it. But you’re welcome to show me my quarters. I’ve been studying the ship, but I admit I know the wiring better than the floorplan.” She laughed slightly and motioned for the doors. “Though if you need to get back to sickbay, that’s fine, too. That looks like a pretty good bump.”

He nodded and gave a sigh of relief finding this easy going and friendly person ‘’Yes Lt Tia ‘’ the ensign gingerly touched the bump on his forehead ‘’The Engineering dept is quite a hazardous place to roam about’’ he replied as a small smile formed at the corner of the young’s man mouth.

Suddenly the redhead had an idea. “Tell ya what… Two problems at once. Let’s get you back to sickbay, and I can just do my medical check-in now. Then if Doc says you’re ok, you can show me my quarters. How’s that?” The fire headed gypsy brushed an errant hair from her face and smiled.

He did not respond right away as if the ensign was thinking about her suggestion ‘’Yes I can take you to sickbay first for your medical and maybe ask the new doctor for some pain relief medication’‘.
As they entered the turbolift he remembered ‘’Oh dear me I’m sorry for not introducing myself I’m..I’m Ensign Nutters’’ and extended a hand hoping against hope that Tiastri would not drop down on the floor laughing,not that she would be the first or the last one to do so.

Nutters could not help but see a resemblance with another doctor ‘’Doctor Cross has the same red hair like yours’’ he murmured .. assuming that is where the resemblance stopped for the sake of the crew’s sanity.

BUMP:

Engineering.. so he was going to be working with her. Great. She shook the offered hand, only the friendly smile meet his worried features. “No worries, I’m sure I can get engineering to apologize for knocking your noggin. ” She winked teasing “You just have to know how to kick her.”

“As for expecting me to tease you about your name, how about I just call you Bolts. As in ‘nuts and bolts’. May give the others less chance to bug you as well. Though being teased about the flat spot on your head is the only thing you may have to deal with for a bit.” She winked once more to help reassure him.

He chuckled ‘’Ok Bolts it is’’ he replied with humor in his tone of voice.

As he made a comment about her hair, her own face wandered a moment. Hey price and joy, and almost a trademark to her heritage, she half expected a test from him this time. Her hand rose absently to run over there fiery locks. “I hope that’s not a bad thing, she half murmured back as the lift doors opened and they stepped out.

‘’Oh no your hair is beautiful Lt ‘’ he replied ‘’At least you keep it tidy........’’ Bolts tailed off as they now entered sickbay.He looked around and spotted Cross dealing with a neurotic patient ‘’How many times am I going to tell you no one is contemplating on killing you’’ she practically screamed most probably at the end of her tether.
Bolts pointed at the female doctor though her back was turned there was no mistaken from her disheveled hair that it was Cross.
‘’Have to go Lt back to my duties’’ and with that he virtually ran out of sickbay.

NC Nutters.

Tia smiled then nodded as the man literally bolted from the room. She gave a half hearted, “See you later,” as he departed.

Turning back to the scene before her, she took several steps in, set her bag on a nearby chair and moved up to see if there was something she could do to help the frustrated sounding Doc. “Doc… everything all right?” She asked politely just to be sure she wasn’t intruding.

Cross heard the steps behind her before Tia spoke and turned around to face the new crew member ‘’Actually in sickbay its hardly ever alright’’ the female doctor replied with a hint of frustration in her tone.
She was seen giving the patient something ,that must have been potent enough for him to close his eyes and fall asleep within seconds. Cross by now gave her full attention to the women ‘’I’m doctor Cross …shall I assume you’re here for your medical?’‘she asked while searching for a vacant biobed.

BUMP:

Tia watched the patient pass out and smiled. “Well, I guess it was a silly question based on the location. But it was more aimed at you. I think, occasionally, someone needs to ask the ‘asker’ if they are all right.” The smile was genuine and the words weren’t meant to be anything but sincere.

‘’Oh!’’ Cross exclaimed with a rather surprise look on her face ‘’It’s not everyday some one ask about my well being,I appreciate that’’ she told the Tia with a smile ‘’I’m doctor Cross ‘’ she said by way of introduction extended a hand,removing a lock of hair from her face and searched for an empty bio all at the same time.

She nodded at his question. “Yes, Ensign Ezial, Tiastri. I’m one of your new engineers.” She glanced around as the Doc did and wondered what he was searching for. Pulling the info stick from her pocket, she held it on her palm towards him. “Here are my orders and files. Though I am sure you have them already. It’s just habit, I suppose.”

The female doctor pointed to a secluded biobed ‘’That would do..nice and quiet’’ she said while taking the files, not that Cross would see them before doing the medical.

Other than the usual childhood scrapes and a sprained wrist with no prolonged issues, there was nothing major in her records. She had been relatively lucky growing up. And her time since the Academy had been relatively quiet as well. She had the usual fears, EV suits, deep darkness, and first contact that went horribly wrong. Thankfully, none of those topics were in her medical file. Avoiding such situations was a great way to keep the observations out of her record.

‘’Hop on the bed and relax dear,this won’t take long’’ and with that said she attached the diagnostic wand to the medical tricoder and started scanning..........
