She gave a half smile. “I’m sure there is. Well, if you have no immediate need of me, I am going to seek some rest. I’ll be back in about 12 hrs to see how the set of sims went and if we need to rethink anything. I suggest you get some sleep as well. I’m putting my ship and crew in your hands, Sir. I don’t want you addlebrained because you just had to oversee every minute detail, including the running sims. I’ll ring you when I come back for answers.” She waited to be sure he had heard and understood. She was effectively kicking him out of Engineering for the next two shifts.

Daniel regarded her a second then nodded. “..As you prefer then. I’ll return to my quarters..” He replied setting down the work kit he had been using after closing it back up and packing things back into it in an orderly manner. Leaving it then on a work cart he departed back to the turbolift on his way to his quarters.

She smiled as he left, glad he was getting a break as well. Once he was gone, she exhaled and moved towards Kord’s quarters where she seemed to spend more time of late. She had a formal objection to make on the record and a nap to take. With any luck at all, she’d stay awake long enough to eat.

Once Tia would return from her break, she would find the simulations ready to read. The computer naturally had ran the simulations based on being fed what the engineers and science NE’s could decipher of the functions of the device they built. Coupled with the computer’s library of current science, engineering, and such the simulation showed the following two possibilities.

1) The device would work on some level to warp the fabric of reality and temporal space-time around the Merrimack. This was performed by modulations of the device and the warp bubble they would form. This bubble then would be augmented by a phased deflector pulse of space-time particles which Daniel had setup and once emitted would engulf the Merrimack and through means not fully understood repair the temporal and reality anomalies which had been plaguing the ship for some time since their spacial and temporal jump to Andromeda 3 years prior. Added to this was then space-time would have its ‘threads’ mended (Daniel’s input again) to correct the anomalies that the Merrimack had been causing elsewhere/elsewhen. If successful the ship likely would be roughed up, probably a few blown EPS relays, and what not but nothing the ship hadn’t experienced before or worse. The computer gave a roughly 45% chance that this was the likely outcome

2) The other outcome was the device could work similarly to the first, but instead of healing the Merrimack it would cause a temporal and space-time implosion of the ship which once detonated would ripple out through the fabric threads of reality and time doing unknown corrections or damage. This time the computer gave a roughly 15% chance that this was the likely outcome

Overall this left a sizable 40% unknown factor of outcomes simply due in fact to that they were dealing with barely understood forces of nature, time, and technology. Overall Daniel hadn’t given them any means to distrust him though, and he had seemed on the up and up to genuinely want to repair the Merrimack and other anomalies in space/time. He didn’t seem malicious, if anything he seemed overly innocent in his goals, perhaps even too trusting to the crew he had been half born from. The results were as correct as they could be for the chief engineer, and likely no further tinkering or simulations would change the factors presented. It would come down to whether they trusted Daniel or not in the short time they had known him over the past few weeks of getting to this point.

When Tia returned to check on the simulation, she sighed. Deep down she had hoped, kind of, that there would be some great anomaly she could use to postpone or even quash the activation. Sadly, there wasn’t. She sent the reports to the CO and XO and moved to finish setting things up in Engineering for the actual activation. After another hour, as third shift came to a close, she messaged Daniel and left a missive on his comm for him to get when he woke. It said the tests were successful and to come to Engineering when he was up and about.

Seeing the message read by the Captain, Tia sent an additional one.

If you have any questions, I’m up and in engineering… or can come to you.

Tia had signed off with her name and gone back to preparing the engineering bay for whatever was to come. She just hoped that there was a something to come… or go back to.
