Kord entered the ready room and stood to the right of the desk and waited for Tia’s entrance.

Once she entered and the door closed, she took a bold moment and reached out just to rest the back of her right hand against the back of his left as she paused in passing him. The feel of the him all she wanted. She wasn’t sure if she would feel the crackle between them or not, his always being so shielded when not in his quarters, but the touch lingered a moment more than it should have as she spoke about Daniel. “He wanted more than Warp 6.” She looked up at him, concern clear in her eyes. “He came in and wasn’t satisfied till we got successive passes on over a dozen sims at Warp 8.5. I don’t like it, Kord. I feel like we are building a giant weapon core. And the Merri is the shell he is firing across the vast darkness between here and....” she shook her head and looked down at where they touched. “If you tell me it’s going to be ok, I’ll believe you.” She looked back up at him.

“Oh yeah, and he said to be sure you collected enough of the Hydrogen and Hellium.” She growled slightly under her breath.

Kord kept things professional when it came to ship’s business while on duty. He let her hand touch his but did nothing to enhance the contact.

“I don’t have enough information yet to determine if this is a weapon or not but from what I’ve read and heard so far it’s reminding me of something else I’ve heard a rumor of. A weapon that uses tightly focused warp field to accelerate a projectile to high warp velocities. It seems similar except that we seem to be delivering the payload rather than being the payload. As for the elements, we’re collecting the helium now.”

Kord rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

“Would you think this device capable of creating a controlled rip in time space?”

Tia hadn’t felt anything, but it was fine. She had felt him and it was enough. When Kord suddenly asked about the time rip, she shivered and turned to him. “I don’t know… maybe…” she crossed her arms. “In parallel to the ship’s core… it’s possible. I would have to run the sim to see. I have only been running continuity sims, not actual completion possibility sims.” She didn’t like the implications anymore now than when she had walked in.

“I should get back. I’ll keep an eye on it. But, Kord… I’m gonna be putting an official objection to this in the ship’s logs on my way back.” She wasn’t asking permission. She was telling him out of courtesy. He would know she was going to his room to do it since she had hardly ever been back to hers since the week they had started seeing one another.

Kord nodded.

“Run the sims to extrapolate potential results and get back to me. If any changes are made, run new sims. I am hoping this does not end up a continuation of the lesson of the Elder’s tactics in trying to eliminate us but we must remain vigilant.”
