USS Merrimack
Main Sim - Shuttle Bay

Kord nodded. “Either of these two devices, if detonated within the ship, would most certainly vaporize the ship as it was pushed into subspace in every direction at once. These aren’t conventional explosives. These will cause subspace turbulence over the whole system for a couple of days with such intensity that moving through it in low warp will be hazardous and moving at high warp will rip the traversing vessel to shreds.”
Kord slapped the side of one casing, “There’s two because it’s always good to have a back up when possible.”
Kord looked at Remi, “The Captain wants someone on the helm and I believe you have the necessary skills. Please report to the bridge.”
“Aye aye, sir” Remi replied with a nod of acknowledgement. He put down the calibration padd he had been using and left the shuttle bay. While he navigated the corridor with ease, his thoughts were a jumble. It is a big step to go from being a shuttle jockey to flying a starship. Sure the basic controls are the same; x, y, and z axis control. But the skill is putting it all together to get where you want to go. Taking a few deep breaths in the turbolift helped to settle his nerves.
“Lieutenant Ezial.” Kord said turning to the woman who and so casually bumped him, “I’m giving you a field promotion to Chief Engineer. We’ll make it official at a more appropriate time.
“I..umm… Yes, sir. Thank you,” she managed to stammer, murmuring an “I think…” at the end before shaking her head. Some way to get promoted, Tia… Let the boys build a bomb. Wish I’d thought of it sooner. She mused as they finished up.
Nkosenye tightened the last coupling and said “Congratulations. May we live long enough to make it official.” and he looked at Kord. “This one is ready, Sir.”
Kord nodded, “Then we’re done. All that’s left is to position them.”
Kord commed the bridge, =^=Captain, the subspace torrent bombs are ready. We need to be at least one AU away when we set one off. The second is a back up in case the first fails. We do not want to set off two of these at the same time.=^=
Glen made reply =/\= Very Good… We are now approaching the third planet in the system. There are some anomalous readings beneath the surface so I’m going to send a landing party down to investigate further… These bombs? Where were we thinking of directing them? We have no idea where or when the ‘Dark Serpent’ will appear. That is their tactical advantage over us. Subspace is huge. Sending one bomb at random is unlikely to achieve anything? =/\=
Nkosenye looked at Kord. “With your permission, I will assist on the Away Team.” and he stood and began brushing himself off.
Kord nodded to Nkosenye
OOC: Kord can you remind me please how these are launched? I assume they’re not in standard torpedo casings given the earlier parts and descriptions. So I figure they gotta be forcefully ejected out a shuttle bay door or something? Just need to know for the future fight.

=^=The effective diameter is just over double the orbital diameter of the system. As long as the bomb is within the system at detonation it will affect the entire system but, for best effect, the closer to the center the better. I recommend somewhere between the orbitals of the second and third planets. And once one is detonated the resulting subspace storm will make subspace communications impossible as well as limiting travel to sub light. Warp speeds below factor two will cause damage to the drive systems and over factor two will destroy the vehicle. The effect will last approximately two Terran standard days.=^=
=/\= I think I’m beginning to understand the sheer scale of this. ‘If the radiance of a thousand suns were to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendour of the mighty one.’ Thanks, Kord. We will need to prepare for the after-effects of this. When we beam down. You can remain behind in command and continue to work on the plan. =/\=
OOC: They’re too big to be launched via torpedo tubes and they’re not self propelled though they could be made to be though they have to be stationary before detonation otherwise one ends up with a subspace tsunami instead. In general they’re launched or placed via shuttle, transporter, or dropped like a mine. They can wait indefinitely for a signal or be set with a timer, IFF, or signature recognition, or proximity(smart or dumb) detonator. Kord would set these up with signal (detonate on demand) and smart proximity (detonate when unknown object get too close) options.

Sitting back on her heels, Tia smiled at the others. “So set it still, then set it off. And you can join… But running, or walking, gets you killed. Got it. Glad that’s out if the way.” She laughed and started gathering up the tools. She was glad she wasn’t at the helm. To maintain such precise speeds at such a chaotic moment didn’t seem like the easiest thing in the universe to her.
But then again, her head was racing with possibilities of delivery and detonation methods. So who was she to judge?
