Security Department Drills

[snip]=/\= Security teams, this is the Chief, =/\= he said calmly. =/\= We’re moving to a measured deterrence posture. All Junior Officers are to brief their sections immediately. =/\=
He paused only long enough to ensure the channel remained clear.
“That’s him!” Guy said the Richard. “The new COS!”
=/\= Damage control teams to silent standby. Boarding response units on alert, but remain out of sight unless activated. I want rapid-response drills reviewed and internal sensor sweeps doubled—quietly.=/\=
Acknowledgements chimed back in quick succession.
Thalos monitored the confirmations as they came in, antennae subtly shifting as he listened to the ship itself—the hum of systems adjusting, the faint vibration of shields reinforcing. Everything responded exactly as it should.
Guy was confused and asked Richard, “Err…that’s what we’ve been doing. Briefing each other. Staying on silent alert but remaining out of sight. Reviewing the rapid-response drills. Does he want us to stay here and continue to do nothing? We haven’t run any sensor sweeps for a while. How should we respond to him?”
Richard though for a moment then whispered ‘’Tell him we are ready and that we’ re going on the sensor sweeps as we speak …what ever that means ‘’ he replied as a after thought .
Before Guy could reply to the COS, Richard had already begun walking towards the sensory console. “Hey! Do you know what you’re doing on that?”
Sharp was next to the sensory console ,his fingers glided over the buttons .He knew that the ship’s sensors would locate objects or phenomena in space, or otherwise obtain information about something going on outside the ship. Momentum spent on this Task is normally spent on the Obtain Information Momentum Spend .
‘’Guy there’s a torpedo in front of us and the ship seem to be following it’’ he said rather baffled ‘’And lo and behold it seem to be one of ours! ‘’.
“Reaally!” said Guy, imagining all the different kinds of trouble they would be in if it was their fault.
Sharp’s eyes widened ‘’ I think that nursing officer can see the future for I am going to end up cleaning with a toothbrush!’‘
“This is a Reason + Science Task, assisted by the ship’s Sensors + Science, with a Difficulty of 0. Interference, ambient conditions, or particularly unusual or unfamiliar phenomena should increase this Difficulty,” said Majel, the ship’s computer..
‘’I hope the science dept is doing its part and we need to contact bridge.”
Guy was shaking his head, but he couldn’t get any words to come out of his mouth quickly enough to tell him no.
=/\= Sharp from security dept to bridge.....we have located a torpedo which seems very familiar to ours and the ship is stirring its way behind it ........someone please acknowledge ?=/\=.
=/\= Requesting verification,=/\= the COS said calmly, already opening a secure channel. =/\= I want confirmation on origin, chain of custody, and transport authorization. If there’s a casing onboard that wasn’t declared, I need to know how it got here—and who signed off on it. =/\=
“Are you sure that’s what you saw?” Guy asked Richard. “Maybe the sensors have been affected by the Gravity waves? I don’t know what to tell him?”.
‘’What if I just done a blunder ? ‘’ the security asked ‘’And to the new COS of all people !’‘.
“I can’t tell him that!” Guy replied. “His first day here, and I say, Sharp ‘just done a blunder’! I’ll tell him you are running a repeat of the sensor sweep in case of… a lens flare? Or a glitch caused by a spectrograph artifact? You run the scans again. If it is really there, then someone else is in trouble, not us!”
=/\= Good Morning, Sir. Fleegman here! Sharp is repeating the sensor sweep scan cycle in case of spectrographic artifacts caused by the fluctuating power supply. If it’s real, he will triangulate the exact torpedo tube point of origin. =/\= “It certainly couldn’t have come from this cargo hold,” Guy added to Sharp.
=^=Good morning Crewman , that would be helpful, thankyou , while I have you on the comms, please have teams situated in the shuttle bays and the torpedo bay, make sure they are armed and have the helmsman and comms officer sent back to the bridge=^=
=/\= Yes Sir, Understood =/\= replied Guy.
The torpedo tube was indeed one of the empty shell casings that was originally going to be used. Somehow it had gotten outside with the debris.
Sharp had heard the orders and made sure the COS ‘s orders where carried out ,then turning to Guy ‘’Guess we may as well head to the shuttle bay ourselves and since we are here take the weapons with us ‘’.
“Do you mean, to head to Deck 8; the Photon Torpedo Launchers? Then yes, it’s probably the best idea. We can find out exactly what’s going on, and if someone is going to get reprimanded and it isn’t either of us, that’ll be fun to watch too!”
Sharp looked at his friend ‘’ You know what I’m going to contact Hunter to see that sickbay is prepared ,won’t bother the CMO in her state. I bet right now he is sitting down looking at his refection in the mirror!’’ finishing off with an evil grin.
Guy was happy to let Richard take the lead on this, but he was puzzled about what he meant by the “CMO in her state?” He must have missed some ship gossip.
=/\= Security to sickbay ..doctor Hunter is sickbay ready? Have you followed the Captain’s orders ? We are checking each dept , COS orders =/\= he waited.
=/\= Sharp sickbay is fully prepared ,any injured crew shall be transported to sickbay . The empty cargo has been turned into another sickbay for any injured Aliens , we have also erected cells for any prisoners . Any unknown pathogens we receive shall be marked as bio hazard and on no account shall it leave the erected sickbay =/\= a pause =/\= Cross shall stay in sickbay and if I’m not called for the landing party will handle the injured prisoners ..any questions Sharp? =/\= .
The security rolled his eyes =/\= No doctor ..Sharp out=/\= .
He closed the comm ‘’Darn that doctor is always one step ahead ‘’ Sharp mumbled.
“Let’s get to the Torpedo Launch Room and find out what has been taking place there. We’ll brief our teams as ordered, and implement these training drills. Sickbay has its own medical protocols to follow as always. It’s best not to interfere with those, and then they will be less likely to try to give us their delivery work to do,” said Guy as he set off.
’’ Hey wait for me ! Say Guy better work on the drills afterwards and allocate security where its needed and be prepared ‘’.
He opened the comm =/\= Security ,head to your dept this is a drill ..I repeat this is a drill =/\= he quickened his pace to catch up with guy ‘’ We have to put security at the Torpedo Launch room , both sickbays , bridge , transporter room and at the shuttle bay .Is that okay or did I miss something?’‘.
“Don’t forget the Brig!” replied Guy. “And then we also need to organise some into Damage Control Teams like the COS said. We need to be both proactive and reactive. We should assign them both to structural defenses and to active surveillance. Maybe the crew need a little bit of safety and security education too, so some classes about what to do or not do during a Red Alert situation.”
Sharp nodded
Guy had trouble keeping up with Richard. He was off like a rabbit when he decided to do something. Guy followed him to the launch room but it looked like they’d had missed the COS and he had left already.
When they reached the Torpedo Launch room they found only the reprimanded Ensign as the others had left ‘’ Hej what has happened or better still want went wrong? Sharp asked.
Guy waited for a response but the ensign was still gulping and sighed to himself. The ensign just repeated his earlier made excuse, “It was my fault… I accidentally knocked the torpedo casing out.. didn’t see until after it was gone that the orders had changed… I panicked, I didn’t know what to do. I’m not formally reprimanded… corrective training for the next two weeks… full inventory verification and reporting to the COS directly!”
Guy thought for a moment, then said to the ensign, but mainly to Sharp for Sharp’s benefit, “well that’s not too harsh! Considering! He could have been given a lot worse punishment? Y’see we haven’t met this Andorian yet and are still trying to gauge how strict he will be on us.”
When they had gathered a few more of the security guards together, Guy then said, “The COS has also instructed us to brief our security team sections, so that’s why we are here. He wants you all to be armed in the launch rooms. He must be expecting some real trouble. I doubt some of you’ve ever fired a phaser in a real life defensive circumstances before, but if the situation arises, don’t worry, you’ll just follow your training and you’ll be fine. We will be organising boarding drills for you and we have a schedule so no one misses out!”
Sharp’s eyes widened ‘’I have a gut feeling this new Chief of ours is not so laid back , maybe it would be wise to call all security to the dept and do a proper drill , where everyone is armed and would know which location and position they have been placed if the ship goes to RED ALERT ‘’.
“The COS said to ‘brief your Sections’,” Guy replied, “So I thought we were going to go about and do each location individually like this? It would be quicker if we got everyone together at once, but we’d have to take them away from their duties. I don’t know, but I think this is better? Smaller groups are better for understanding. Also, it doesn’t matter if it takes longer. It means we don’t get put on the standing outside the Brig duty for a little longer. That’s fine with me!”
He took a deep breath ‘’I suppose you’re right , knowing my luck the ship would go RED ALERT when all security are present at the dept , so lets do what you suggested ‘’ Sharp replied .
Resting his body against a console he muttered under his breath ‘’ This should be on the new COS to organize and not fire orders to two Ensign’s ‘’.
Sharp sec.
“But you know as well as I, naive Ensigns and lower decks redshirts will get themselves killed. It’s their duty to be a warning so that the more valuable crew members and the captain avoid danger. If he’s giving us responsibilities, then he thinks we are valuable. Then we might get to survive the next landing party!” Guy told Richard.
Sharp wasn’t so convinced ,his brain decided to put a picture of him in the morgue . ‘’ On every mission all are armed not just us , em excluding Hunter don’t know why that doctor does not carry a phaser maybe he has a dead wish’’ .
Guy turned back to the other officers, “Ahem! …Remember, we often go unseen but you are essential personnel, and your dedication makes the Merrimack safer. We are frontline ambassadors; the first point of contact for visitors, both friends and foe alike! Your vigilance, proactivity and alertness enables us to spot trouble before it even starts. And your work is about protecting the crew and allowing them to live and work without fear. Never forget how important you all are!”
Sharp clapped ‘’ That’s what we need to say on the comm Guy ,the security where ever they are will know and we would not need to call them and by the way I have checked all the weapons and everything is in order in our dept ‘’.
“I read that in the Academy manual somewhere,” Guy replied. “I guessed some motivational speech was needed now, among all the doom and gloom about the next mission… and that’s good work on the weapons lockers!”
That way he figured he would grab something to eat and hopefully lay down in his cabin…if he was lucky.
Sharp sec.
“We can move on to the next place now,” Guy said, reading down his PADD. “The Brig!! Let’s see who pulled that short straw today and go and motivate them!”
- Guy, Sec
’’ You are’’ he replied without any hesitation ‘’ Just remember the speech and don’t forget your phaser. We need to act professional , since the big heads are over there ‘’ .
Sharp ran his fingers through his hair , guess without a brush he had to improvise and straightened his uniform....ready when you are ‘’ the security told Guy.
