Joe was sort of busy. Not a lot but still somewhat as he fixed a few dinners that he hoped someone might enjoy. He had some Corned beef and cabbage of course. People expected that on this time of year. He also had Italian roast beef for sandwiches with peppers. Mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, stuffed potatoes and sweet potatoes were all an option along with various beans and of course deserts more than he could think about. shed

” BAH!” He slowed down his work. He was worried sick over his little friend D’Nesh. She had disappeared into that scallywag dentist’s office long ago. In the interim he had hung pretties from the walls of her room. Every bright color that clashed. He had found a lot of ribbons. None of them matched. It was the sort of thing she would love. If she ever got back from that card shark.

Cross made her way to the Dragon bar ,she was somewhat hesitate to go the bridge .On her way she met D’Nesh who proudly showed her the new fixed teeth, the CMO just said ‘nice’ .

Both entered the bar the Orion female made her way towards the kitchen while Cross sat on a stool next to the bar ,patiently waiting for Joe to appear.

Joe came across D’Nesh first. He gave her a quick hug, examined very closely her fixed teeth that she was so proud of. Her only problem had been the one that had been replaced altogether. She had asked for a purple one, but all the dentist had was a normal looking one. Joe then fixed her up a plate and told her to eat something before she thought about getting back to work. He then took a deep breath and walked out to the bar where he saw Miri sitting at the bar. ” Ah me wonderful darling! ” He said with a broad smile. Reaching across the bar he plucked up one of her hands and kissed it tenderly. ” I see you’ve arrived at my doorstep yet once again. We need to be careful. People may start talking. You know how they are. They might start a rumor that you’re fond of me or something. “He teased her.

Cross complied ,she let Joe take her hand giving him a slight smile but when he said the last sentence her eyes widened ‘’Seriously? Have you not figured out that gossip on this ship move at a warp speed not yet invented! ‘’ the CMO exclaimed ‘’Beside you have nothing to show , while I carry this bump and everyone figured out what doctor Cross did..oh the shame of it all’’ she wailed .

Composing herself she went on ‘’Anyway could you prepare some food for me preferable pasta , say does this mission bother you? Cause truth be told I’m terrified’’ Cross admitted ‘’Strange its the first time I feel this way ‘’.

Joe put forth a heroic effort at Cross’ theatrics, but he soon nearly collapsed in laughter. ” Well, my darling I mean you are a physician so the only thing anyone could figure out what doctor Cross had been up to was bringing new life into the world. After all, doctors don’t make mistakes, do they?” Joe laughed.
He then turned and began to get together Miri’s pasta. ” Rigatoni, with tomatoes, diced onion and green peppers sound good? No Vodka in it for you I’m afraid.”

Cross felt like slamming her head against the bar ‘’I don’t understand how you and Hunter hate each other cause in my opinion you are like two peas in a pod ‘’ she picked up the fork and stared eating.

Joe turned from his food prep and gazed at Cross as if she had lost her mind. ” You mean you didn’t feel that way about the last mission when you weren’t sure what was going on? Where everything was an illusion? I still carry extra bananas in case we need to fix the warp core. ” Joe shook his head and said, ” No as long as I can fix rigatoni and have it come out tasting good for you, I’m okay. The last mission anything could have happened to us. “

Cross frowned ‘’Not really ‘’ though she did wonder why cause it didn’t make much sense ‘’ Guess its whatever is patrolling the area....’’ the CMO tailed off . When the plate was empty she got up ‘’Thanks for the meal , I’m going to the bridge and hopefully see and hear what their line of thoughts, judgment , opinions and contemplation of the best course of action would be’‘.

Joe laughed. ” If you ask me this is just a lesson that we’ll have to teach Victor one day. If a stovetop is hot don’t put your hand on it. It seems to me that we’re just sticking our hand into someplace it shouldn’t be. ” As Joe began to clear away Miri’s plate, he finished by saying,”” Of course I’m just the barman. and thankfully not privy to all the secrets.”

D’Nesh tugged at Joe’s sleeve ‘’ She’s gone , she seem sad…why?’’ .

Kate entered the Dragon bar,smiling as usual ‘’ Hi Joe ,D’Nesh what’s on the menu to-day ?’’ the nursing officer asked hoping to eat something before returning to sickbay. She looked around expecting to see Cross but apparently she wasn’t there .

Joe had just finished explaining to D’Nesh about human females and how their hormones drove them to partial insanity when they were carrying babies when Kate walked in. After Joe had explained things for D’Nesh she had just stood there looking as confused as Joe felt most of the time. Thankfully that was when Kate came in which would keep him from having to give any other explanations to the ever-curious D’Nesh. Joe smiled up at Kate from his position beneath the bar where he had been putting away some clean glasses and said with a smile. ” Well hello Miss Kate! You tell us what you want, and we can probably get you something close!” Joe finished with a laugh.

‘’Something light would do’’ Kate replied ‘’I was expecting to see Cross here ‘’ as she waited D’Nesh approached her and whispered ‘’ Joe told me that his wife is partial insane cause she is carrying a baby …is there a cage where she can be locked in? ‘’ her eyes darted to the entrance half expecting the female doctor to come in with a dagger.

The nursing officer burst out laughing ‘’ No dear,it just that human men does not understand human females ‘’.

Joe just shook his head at the antics of the two. ” Well for one thing the manufacturer should have included a user’s manual with women. ” He then turned to D’Nesh and scolded her lightly saying with a grin,” We do not lock up people for acting strange my girl or you would be in one and I wouldn’t stand for that.” So Kate how about a tuna sandwich? It comes on toast or plain.”

‘’The latter please and a glass of water ‘’ she saw D’Nesh walking towards the kitchen ‘’Oh Joe you scared the poor thing ‘’ .She then changed the subject ‘’It won’ be long now before you’ll be a father , its a good thing your family is more then willing to raise him up , I don’t think Cross has much of maternal instinct in her , probably due to her own mother and how she was brought up’‘.

Joe just shook his head and chuckled at such a thing. ” I’ve known many a people who blame their problems on their parents. The thing is why do you let your parents bother you once you’ve become an adult? Put it behind you and move on I always say. You wouldn’t leave an open would untreated, would you?” Joe sighed then and said,” My family will love the boy. And I suspect that growing up in that family he’ll grow to be rowdy by nature and loveable by choice. “
