Kate rushed in the CMO’s office ‘’Cross they just brought in a female she’s in immense pain ‘’ Cross rushed to were the patient was looking at her vital signs it was clear her body was showing signs of distress . With the medical tricoder the female doctor scanned the patient ‘’Emergency surgery ,contact Hunter and prepare the patient for surgery ‘’. Hunter came rushing in ‘’Update me ‘’ Follow me to the theater this is a medical emergency , the patient must have had a femoral hernia ,left untreated with now serious complication ‘’.

Strangulation is the most serious complication of an untreated hernia and represents a true medical emergency. This occurs when the blood supply to the trapped tissue is cut off, causing the tissue to die. According to medical research, hernia strangulation can result in life-threatening consequences if not treated immediately.
Both doctor understood the seriousness of a once strangulation occurs,have only hrs before permanent damage or death can occur, emergency surgery is required to restore blood flow and prevent tissue damage .

In theater the patient was put under general anesthesia , both Hunter and Cross worked in unison while the nursing officer handing the medical tools they needed .
‘’If the blood supply is cut off necrosis will follow ,her vital signs Kate we are nearly finished here ‘’ the nursing officer saw that the patient was more stable ‘’Hunter mind closing up while I write down the care needed’’ .

She handed the padd to Kate .... Saline infusion,antibiotics via intravenous ,checking of vital signs ,painkillers as needed and the routine blood tests.

Cross CMO.

Cross was by now in her office staring at the wall ,sometime later Hunter joined her ‘’How is she ?’’ the CMO asked ‘’ Stable , she is fully conscious but she did complain of pain, lucky that the two other crew members brought her in ‘’ Cross nodded still looking at the wall.

The doctor bend down ‘’Say Cross are you having some kind of vision staring into space ,Oh by the way the Captain called me and gave me a promotion to a full Lt but I guess you already know ‘’.

Cross snapped out of the trace she was in ‘’Really ? Congratulation Hunter you definitely deserve it but no I had no idea the Captain never spoke to me about it .Come to think of it I hardly see him these days ....I do miss our little conversations ‘’.
The male doctor chuckled ‘’Try being a bit naughty I’m sure you’ll see him along with Lt M’Mera throwing you in the bridge cell …here drink this ‘’ he placed a cup of coffee in front of her .

She looked down at her bulging stomach and signed ,either the manipulated gene had stopped working and returned to normal or Cross mellowed down due to the fact that she was with child. Guess only time would tell...........

Cross CMO.

‘’Em Hunter why don’t you go and get some sleep ,this is suppose to be your day off , I cannot fathom how you manage with just four to five hours of sleep ‘’ Hunter chuckled ‘’Yes ma’am ‘’ the doctor teased knowing how the CMO hated being called ma’am .

‘’By the way doctor Kim has given me his resignation ,though I still have too take it to the Captain ‘’ Cross informed Hunter who was looking from her office onto sickbay .

‘’Really that’s strange I can see him out there working on something ,are you sure he wanted to resign?’’ Cross slapped her forehead ,she opened the drawer took out the resignation paper , tearing it in half and throwing it in the bin ‘’That doctor must be crazy !’’ she exclaimed.

‘’No surprise there once his shift ends he always go back to his quarters ,never mingle with any of the crew and I assume he eats that blend food from the replicator in his quarters anyway I’ll go and catch a few hours of sleep ‘’ and with that Hunter left.

Hunter Dr.

Cross got out of her office to speak to doctor Kim , his back was towards her and Cross saw he was arranging some medical instruments. ‘’Doctor Kim ‘’ she started to speak , as the man nearly jumped out from his skin .He turned around his face contorted with anger ‘’Really did you have to creep up to me like this ‘’ .

‘’I’m sorry......... anyway just came to ask if you have changed your mind about the resignation?’’ the CMO asked. ‘’ Its obvious that I have isn’t it or else I wouldn’t be here !’’ he exclaimed ‘’ The woman who was suppose to be my fiance married someone else ,so there was no point of leaving ‘’ Kim then turned back to whatever he was doing .

Cross said nothing more , she rolled her eyes and headed back to her office .

Cross CMO.

Hunter returned to sickbay his shift was about to start ‘’Cross I’ll take over from here ‘’ she looked up from her desk and nodded ‘’Nothing new to report doctor ,Kate is due to return from her break and doctor Kim ‘s shift has ended.

Hunter chuckled ‘’Just seen him excited sickbay ,he looks terrible ....would not be surprised if we’ll soon have him as patient ‘’.
The CMO got up ‘’ He’s upset cause the woman he was going to marry apparently changed her mind and ditched him for someone else that’s the reason he’s not resigning ‘’.

Hunter Dr.

The doctor with Padd in hand was going through checking each patient ,it was relatively quiet and no one was seriously ill,Hunter was simply looking at their vital sighs .He knew some will be discharged the next day. About to head back to the office he heard the door slid open and saw a crew member enter with a nasty gash and blood dripping along his face .

Helping him on a biobed Hunter asked him ‘’ What happened? How did you get injured ? ‘’ but the patient just groaned in pain while he laid down .

Hunter Dr.

Two junior nurses who were on duty ,assessed the situation and brought what was needed for the doctor .Hunter started to clean the wound before stitching it up , again he asked how the crew man sustained the injury but still got no reply .It was then that he realized the patient did not want divulge and make known what happened.

For now Hunter let it go and instead picked up the medical tricoder to make sure there was no bleeding in the brain or a blood clot which was a priority ,knowing that any of the two scenarios would destroy bran cells .

Hunter Dr.

Hunter found no bleeding in the brain but he was still questioning how the patient got injured, yet got no response . The doctor would have to file a report to the CMO ,one way or another they would find out. As if this patient was enough in came doctor Kim much to Hunter’s surprise . Kim wasn’t suppose to be on duty ‘’Doctor Kim......’’ Hunter stopped in mid sentence something was wrong with the man, any color had drained from his face and he was unsteady on his feet.

Kim managed to mumble something incoherently ‘’ Pills..o..over dose ,women l..l ‘’ his legs gave way and fell to the floor . Hunter heard more then enough doctor Kim had taken an overdose .

Kim Dr.

Hunter asked ‘’Kim what did you take and at what time ? ‘’ the patient had some pills still in his hand which the doctor recognized ‘’N....not long ‘’ Km answered though he was clearly not fully conscious. Hunter drew some blood giving it to the nurse to be analyzed in the medical lab ,inserting a vein flow Hunter scanned with the medical tricoder .The overdose had not fully been emptied from the stomach.

He wasn’t about to take any chances and stabilized the breathing and circulation, while also stabilizing the vital signs and then treated the overdose symptoms. Based on the symptoms presented Hunter put up a saline infusion ,as the nurse came back with the results it showed that Kim had not taken a massive overdose .Most probable he realized what he had done and made it to sickbay just in time.
Treatment involved administering activated charcoal, which can help to absorb some of the poison. Inserting a gastric tube Hunter aspirated what was left in the stomach, it also involved giving fluids or medications to help reduce the effects of the poison.

Had it been an opioid or similar drug that Kim had overdosed with , the doctor would have administer naloxone. This medication reverses the effects of the drug.

With the saline running Hunter told the nurse to alternate saline with lactate ringer when one is finished and to keep an eye on his vital signs . Hunter observed that Kim was stabilizing ‘’I’ll be keeping an eye on you ’ he spoke in a soft tone , Kim nodded a tear fell ‘’ I..I’m sorry’’ he managed to whisper .Hunter padded Kim’s hand gently ,he was not going to ask why? ........at least not for now .

Hunter Dr.

Hunter’s shift was about to end ,he took out the medical tricoder to check both patients for the last time ,both were stable and asleep.As he was making his way back to the office both Cross and Kate entered ,the CMO picked the two new patient the minute she entered.

‘’Report’’ she told the male doctor ‘’ First of all they are stable,one came with a gash on his forehead I cleaned it up and stitched it ‘’ stopping to take a deep breath Hunter continued ‘’ He has refused to tell me how he got injured ‘’.
Passing a hand over his chin he continued ‘’Doctor Kim took an overdose ,he got himself to sickbay , apparently he changed his mind about dying by suicide .He is stable and I did not ask why ,I felt it was too early to do so’‘.

‘’Poor soul ‘’ Kate murmured to which Cross replied ‘’ One never knows what a person must be feeling or his thoughts ,especially with Kim’‘.

She started to make everyone some coffee ‘’By the way the ship has docked,so we’ll take it in turns to visit the station ‘’ Kate said she would take D’Nesh with her while Hunter just nodded ‘’I realized as the soft hum of the engines stopped’’ after he drank his coffee he bid them good day and left.

The Nursing officer asked Cross if she would like to join them ‘’ To be honest I have not yet made up my mind about going ,especially since I haven’t seen Joe anywhere ‘’.
‘’Oh don’t worry he’s probably drinking in a pub ‘’ with the look Cross gave her Kate grabbed a Padd and darted out of the office .

What Kate had said made Cross uneasy ,she took out her communicator flipped it open and contacted Joe ‘’ Joe are you still on the ship or have you already headed to the station? ‘’ .

She bit on her lower lip waiting for an answer ,her mind started racing …was he at a bar drinking ? Or flirting with someone? Maybe he would decide to leave the Merrimack and open a bar on the station leaving her and her unborn child for the third time? .
Will Hunter’s words come back to haunt her ?.

Cross CMO.

Joe had not answered ,the CMO had other things to deal with . She approached the crew member who came in with a deep slash on his forehead .Pulling a chair Cross sat down ‘’ We need to know what happened ‘’ her tone was neutral ‘’Was it an accident? An altercation with someone else? If so this has to be dropped on the Cmdr’s desk its protocol ,its rules that we have to adhere too ‘’ he took her completed by surprise smacking her hard on the cheek, hard enough for the female doctor to topple over landing on the floor.

She stood there bewildered as doctor Kim jumped out of his bed to help her get up .Hunter had just entered sickbay and saw everything . Going to the comm he acted fast =/\= Sickbay to security dept we need security here on the double =/\= .

He dealt with the man first, jabbing a sedative into his thigh rendering him unconscious then went over to Cross who Kim had helped her on a biobed . She felt her cheek burning ‘’The baby’’ she whispered .......to be continued.

‘’Cross did you fall on your stomach’’ the doctor asked ,Cross shook her head ‘’No on my side ‘’ Hunter took the medical tricoder and checked thoroughly ‘’Everything looks normal lets check with the ultrasound ‘’ seeing how the CMO looked both distressed and upset.

At that moment Sharp and another security barged into sickbay ,Hunter pointed to the unconscious man ‘’Take him to the bridge cell ‘’ but Cross cut him short ‘’We cannot to do that without the Cmdr or the Captain’s approval but he can be strapped to the bed ‘’Oh very well Sharp just do it before he regain consciousness ‘’.

The security started to strap him up ‘’Doctor but his unconscious why are we strapping him?’’ Sharp asked ‘’Cause I gave him a sedative which won’t last long ‘’ Hunter snapped back.

Hunter Dr.

Given that Joe had behaved himself for oh so very long. Do long of not being in a fight, a battle or a brawl. He had everyone thinking that he might soon be a grandfather rather than a father with the sedate way of life he’d been living. But all this goodness erupted in just a moments time as his voice came booming from the entrance to sickbay. ” Where is she?” he roared like some lion which had just been hit with a rock by his eye. It only woke him and angered him enough to go into a rage.” Where is she?” he roared. Get out of my way you!” he yelled at an unlucky bystander who had made the mistake of getting a shot at the time. Hearing Hunter speak, Joe snarled as he came to Crosses bed where he took up his vigil. “Whoever he is Hunter get him out of here if he he’s the one to hurt my Miri for I’ll have his blood on the floor if a bit of her is harmed!
