M’Mera sat at her Security desk wondering what her two younger junior officers were doing. Now that she had time to think about it she thought they had not been happy with the training simulation she had run before the last mission.
She pondered some more and thought she might have an idea for a more entertaining one.=^=Crrewman Fleegman and Sharrp, meet me in the gymnassium in an hourr, pleasse.=^==/\= I’ll be right there =/\= replied Guy. As he made his way he thought to himself, here we go again! He wasn’t a particularly physical guy, and Sharp seemed to have been training in all kinds of martial arts. I expect I’ll get pummeled again! And to what benefit?
M’Mera quickly requisitioned the gymnasium for an exercise before she headed out to the gym. Reaching the storage facility she pulled out some equipment.
Entering the gym, she began to set up an obstacle course. The equipment included walks, doors, windows and other obstructions. Enough to make an interesting obstacle course. A bit of laser tag.
Lt. M’Mera COS
As Guy entered the gym he noticed the laser tag equipment. He was slightly better with a phaser than he was with his fists, so maybe he might have some little advantage over Sharp. It was worth finding out.
Though Sharp did not respond he made his way to the gym , he wasn’t really looking forward to it especially remembering that M’Mera had cheated during the martial art training when she used her tail wrapping it around his feet and he hit the ground.
On entering the security gave a quick nod to the COS and stood next to Guy looking on ‘’ Guess we’re in the army now ‘’ he muttered under his breath.
“Is it just us two?” Guy whispered back. M’Mera never invited any other officers along to her soirees. Guy was unsure how officers like Morris were given a pass. “She must like us, I guess?”
Without moving his head Sharp replied ‘’ Or hates us more likely ,she didn’t even give us time to relax…that crate you carried with the doctor must have been heavy ‘’ and then as an after thought he went on ‘’Maybe our COS does not yet know about the new security ‘’ .
He looked at what M’Mera constructed and he felt a knot in his stomach ‘’I don’t know about you Guy but I don’t think I’m going to win the green Beret.’‘
“I’m happy as long as I leave Starfleet without gaining the Medal of Honor with Clusters,” Guy replied.
OOC: Ohhh been so busy in rl I did miss that! Thanks for pointing that out! Crewman Morris report to the gymnasium!
OOC: Oh you must have more red shirts than him to dispose of!M’Mera watched the two young crewman enter and begin to look around. She had been notified about another new Security crewman while she had been waiting and had put in a call for him as well.
From the looks on the two crewman’s faces before her they didn’t seem anymore impressed with her efforts here then when she had instigated the hand to hand drills with them. What was with Sharp? She knew he thought she’d cheated but he must understand that any opponent could pull an unexpected move, why did he hold it against her?Lt. M’Mera COS
- Guy, SecMorris came in a short while after his hail. “Excuse me Ma’am,” he said catching his breath, “I was over in sickbay making sure all was well with my physical, which it is, and didn’t realize you’d arranged something for us. But here now and reporting. Crewman Clifford Morris.” He held out a hand for her to shake.
Crewman Morris
SecurityM’Mera nodded in greeting, her tail waiving lazily behind her. “Not at all, Crrewman, I am glad you have yourr medical exam out of the way.”
The Caitian Security Chief stood relaxed, her tricolored pelt lying smoothly, not showing any of her own inner turmoil.Sharp had seen him maneuvering the shuttle which took them back to the ship ,he waited for now to introduce himself and to advice him to watch for the tail ,for he knew all too well what it could do!.
Sharp sec“Alrrright, gentlemen. You see beforre you an obsstacle courrsse of obsstrucctioss and wallss. Thiss iss a relaxed drrill.” She indicated the interior of the gym. The gymnasium’s polished polymer flooring had been overlaid with modular matte-black panels, each embedded with recessed impact sensors and low-level emitters to register “hits” from phaser tag pistols. The space was dimmer than a standard gym, lit in deep reds and blues to provide contrast against the glowing targeting arrays and team indicators mounted on each player’s harness.
The obstacle course now doubled as a close-quarters engagement zone — a shifting field of cover, concealment, and ambush points. Configurable wall panels and barriers could be rearranged at the push of a control panel, creating fresh layouts for each drill.
Key Sections:
Energy Shield Barriers:
Waist-to-shoulder-high duranium panels with embedded holographic emitters projecting faint blue “shield” lines across the top edge. Shields provided visual obstruction only — they were penetrable by laser tag beams but gave the illusion of tactical cover.Corner Wall Sections:
L-shaped bulkhead extensions positioned to break up sightlines and create “kill zones” for ambushers. Painted in matte anti-glare coatings to minimize reflections from training phasers.Over-Under Crawl and Vault Structures:
Adjustable-height platforms where trainees could either vault over or slide underneath for rapid repositioning, forcing quick decisions under simulated fire.Light-Sensor Targets:
Dispersed throughout the arena, these circular emitters glowed faint green until hit by a player’s beam, whereupon they flashed white and deactivated — scoring bonus points for precision marksmanship.Cargo Block Fortifications:
Stacks of weighted storage crates forming barricades, angled to deflect beams. Some blocks had low, narrow firing gaps for prone shooting positions.Climbing Net Overwatch Post:
A raised platform accessible by cargo web, offering high ground with a 270° firing arc — but also a glowing “priority target” indicator visible to all opponents. At the far end, a Team Control Console displayed each squad’s score, hit accuracy, and “respawn” countdowns. The tactical computer could adjust arena lighting, simulate environmental effects (such as low visibility or flickering emergency lighting), and even project holographic enemies to complicate live-fire team maneuvers.
The viewport along the starboard bulkhead had been polarized to near-black, broken only by occasional streaks of starlight — giving the illusion of playing in a darkened outpost somewhere deep in the frontier.
She indicated the pile of gear near the door,”Therre is the gearr for you all. There are slip over armor to rregissterr the hitss and lasserr pisstolss that are coded to the computerr. Thiss iss a frree forr all sso no rruless otherr then that you not hurrt yourrselvess.”
Lt. M’Mera COS
Sharp looked at the construction ,he wanted to run away but felt his feet were rooted to the spot . Gazing at the gear provided he walked over not really knowing what he should pick or put on .
‘’Guy ,Morris listen I believe its best that we stick together and work as a team instead of every man on his own ,three minds are better then one .....what do you think?’’ .
Sharp sec.
Morris looked at the set up and thought he understood the assignment. He went over and began strapping on the gear and checked the phaser before looking over to Sharp. “Apologies, but, I do not think that’s what the Lieutenant had in mind for the exercise. Besides, it’s just training. No one should be getting too hurt.”
