The trip to get her to the Merrimack had taken several days and Elyss was tired. However, when she was transported to the actual ship from a passing shuttle, she felt excitement growing. The transporter operator greeted her and told her that a medical evaluation should be her first stop, so that was where she headed. Finding sickbay was easy but she had butterflies in her stomach as she crossed the threshold. It looked a lot like the medical bay of her last ship, the Ulysses. A few officers were there and she approached them. “Hi, I’m newly assigned and was told I need to be evaluated. Is there someone who can do that for me?”

The nursing officer spoke ‘’ Hi my name is Kate do please follow me ‘’ and with that she walked over to an empty biobed ‘’ The doctor will be with you soon just make yourself comfortable ‘’ and with that Kate hurriedly made her way to the CMO’s office , the door was hardly ever closed .Popping her head in she informed Cross of the new crew member who came in for her medical .

Making her way to were the allocated biobed the doctor smiled ‘’I’m doctor Cross and you are? ‘’ she said by way of introduction while extended a hand .Picking up the medical tricoder and attaching the diagnostic wand ‘’Just lay down this won’t take long but before I start is there any health issues that I should know about ?.

It took only a couple of minutes then the female doctor read the scan.

OOC: does the scan pick anything up?.

Elyss followed the medical officer and hopped up on the biobed she pointed out. Zavey got the chance to look around while waiting for the promised doctor. In no time, a female Lt was at her side introducing herself. “I’m Lt Elyss Zavey, a new transfer to science.” She took the offered hand and shook it before lying down as instructed. “I am in good health, doctor, as far as I know and the only complaint I have is that I suffer from the occasional migraine. I’ve been through a lot of testing because of them, but no one has found a direct reason for them.”

Cross read the scan ‘’ You’re in good health Lt Elyss and since you shall be in the science dept our paths will frequently cross ‘’ the female doctor put away the medical tricoder ‘’ Migraines are common ,how severe are they ? Nauseated, throw up ,need to lie in a quiet dark room ? We do have medication, unfortunately there is no cure ,have you by any chance find that the migraines come after consuming certain foods ,most common the culprits are cheese or chocolate ‘’.

‘’You are cleared for duty from the medical side and if you do suffer a migraine either come to sickbay or I’ll send someone to your quarters....any questions?’’ the CMO asked.

Cross CMO.

Because she’d suffered the disabling headaches for years, Elyss already knew the information Cross supplied. Did she have any questions for the doctor? “I’ve found that for me, a sedative is more likely to help than anything else–when I’m asleep, I can’t feel the pain and most painkillers I’ve tried don’t work very well for them.” Elyss slid off the bed and stood next to the CMO. “Thank you for your time, Lt. I need to report to my DH now.” With that eval out of the way, the young Lt left sickbay looking for the science department.

“I’ve found that for me, a sedative is more likely to help than anything else–when I’m asleep, I can’t feel the pain and most painkillers I’ve tried don’t work very well for them.”

‘’In that case I’ll give you a sedative but I would want you in sickbay just so we could keep an eye on you ‘’ Cross replied .

The female doctor watched the young woman leave ,her thoughts went back to when she was Elyss’s age ,remembering how she drove the Captain and Kord crazy with her antics and could not help but wonder how she had now mellowed down ‘’Maybe its the pregnancy or I’m getting older ‘’ she uttered to herself as the CMO made her way back to her office.

Cross CMO.

Cross was patiently waiting for Hunter to show up ,he had already made contact with the CMO promising to make his way to sickbay after getting something to eat . The female doctor ‘s inquisitive nature would surly bombard him on what went on down at the planet.

Cross CMO.

The nursing officer entered ‘’ Cross I’ve heard they are safely back from the planet ? ‘’ Kate asked more to confirm what she heard then anything else .
The CMO nodded ‘’ I have already heard from Hunter , he’s due to return to sickbay any time now , so we’ll get an idea of what happened soon enough ‘’.

” I wouldn’t say safely.” Stella said with a smile as she entered the room trying to pick a stray piece of rice from between her teeth with her fingernail. I mean technically we might all be physically good, but I think I may have lost a few brain cells while I was down there. ” Having been successful then in mining out and retrying to eat the bit of rice she smiled and asked Kate and Cross. ” So how have you ladies been? And did I hear someone mention that bottom of the bucket Hunter? He’s down in the Dragon about to paw D’Nesh as soon as Joe turns his back away no doubt.” She then slipped her arm around Kate’s shoulder and hugged her. ” Kate you’re always so quiet and yet so cute”

’’ Why thank you dear but cute? maybe I was once but not now in my forties.......... ‘’ the nursing officer replied while Cross looked on from behind her desk with a stern face ‘’I don’t think we met Lt ,doctor Hunter might have done your medical ‘’ then went on ‘’ I know he’s at the dragon bar and shall return to sickbay after finishing his meal ‘’.

The usually laid back CMO stood up and walked over to were Stella was ‘’I shall not tolerate anyone speaking about the doctor in that way ,if anyone is to paw D’Nesh as you put it rest assured its not something Hunter would ever do .Just for the record he’s highly qualified both as a doctor and surgeon and always has the best interest for his patients ‘’ she made eye contact with her ‘’ I’m sure Kate will tell you all about what the ship and crew went through ‘’ then looked at Kate ‘’And more ‘’.

Joe hated the man but Cross saw him in a different light , she also thought that this woman was both rude ,impolite and bad mannered.

Cross CMO.

Stella’s dark eyes fixed Crosses as an even darker look crossed her face. “Alright then doctor. Would you believe me? No, less than three time he had his hands on me on the planet. And that was just there. But now I see how he can get away with such things. He has no boundary. No one has set limits for him.” Stella bit her lower lip and the hint of a tear was seen in her right eye. ” He thinks that he has the right to do as he wants with women. And you! ” Stella almost hissed. ” You enable him. He’s got you thinking that he’s not replaceable. He runs a machine that does the surgery. So, you let him do what he will to those of your own gender. ” It was then Stella broke, tears coming forth. I really wanted to be friends with you. I really did but I can’t, and I won’t be treated this way ever again!”

It was her red eyes that darkened now ‘’ I have known the doctor for years and he is not the type of man who would do such things but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and do please stop with the drama ‘’.

It was at that point that Hunter entered her office , he saw Stella crying ‘’ Maybe I shall leave and check on the patients ‘’ thinking it was not the best timing to stay in Cross ‘s office . ‘’ No doctor !’’ the CMO exclaimed ‘’ Kate do please leave ‘’ the N.O was more then keen and willingly to get out ,the female doctor then closed her office door and sat down ‘’ Lt Gagnon repeat what you have just said about the doctor ‘’.

Hunter looked from Stella back to Cross then back at Stella , rather bewildered and wondering what was this all about ,especially since he could not recoil ever seeing Cross being so serious in her demeanor .

Stella was aghast. She hadn’t meant to bring it to this. She’d only meant for Cross to have a few words with Hunter. Her jaw just dropped as she looked back and forth between Cross and Hunter. Finally, one could see the change come over her as she wiped her tears away. She looked puzzled at Cross for a moment before saying in a stern and calm voice. ” It should come as no surprise. I have repeatedly told the doctor to stay away from me since our first contact when I came aboard. He made me nervous and spoke to me in a manner unbecoming of a physician. I made it clear after the physical. Or thought that I had that I had no interest in him other than as a fellow crewmate. I have tried to avoid him. I have not flirted with or done anything in any fashion to make him believe that I wanted anything to do with him. ” Stella spoke now in a manner as if she were giving testimony at a hearing.

Hunter with his hands behind his back listened attentively to every word.

” Time and time again the man seemed unable to understand that I wanted nothing to do with him. Finally on the planet. On my first away team mission I tried to steer clear of him. It wouldn’t seem an impossible thing to do when one has an entire planet. But as the captain spoke, once again Hunter is there with his hand on my behind.” Stella had to take a deep breath to regain her composure. ” I removed his hand and told him clearly to stop. I made it abundantly clear by calling him a creep. Then no more than two minutes later there his fingers are again taking a walk across my bum. At that time, I grabbed his fingers and threated to break them. I’m sure that I will probably be in hot water over that, but I will not stand and be some pompous puffed-up gigolo’s plaything. I’m an officer on this ship not one of his girls on the stations.

Then after she took a breath she finished saying. Per regulations I made Hunter aware that he made me uncomfortable. And each time I was ignored. So now Doctor Cross I am filing a report to you.” By the time Stella had finished making her statement to Cross her hands were shaking and she was sweating. She was also pretty sure that she would be in trouble and have to wind up being transferred at the very least.

When she finished Cross looked at the doctor ‘’ Hunter what is your version of events? ‘’.

Hunter didn’t mince he’s words ‘’ Either Lt Gagnon is lying or else she’s delusional ,the only thing that is true is that I did put two fingers along her spine joking about ghosts that was when we landed on the planet. I have no interest in her or any other female crew of the Merrimack for that matter . Instead of shaking my hand before the medical she brushed against it ,she used the words sugar and honey to address me ,to be honest I found it rather strange for someone who I had never met using those words but I let it go after all this was her mandatory medical. I did advice her not to use those kind of words when meeting the Captain ‘’ Hunter took a deep breath ‘’I find these accusations most serious and a blow to my impeccable reputation when dealing with someone in sickbay so much so that I shall file a report myself to you and would be grateful if ends up on the Captain’s desk ‘’.

Cross bit on her lower lip thinking ‘’If you want to file a report I’m not going to stop you but I would rather we settle this here in my office without getting the Captain involved ,he has enough more pressing situations to deal with’‘.

Something Stella said hit Cross ‘’ I’m an officer on this ship not one of his girls on the stations.’’ how come you know what the doctor does at a station ? Not even I know that and you came straight on to the Merrimack , has never been on the stations we stopped at which by the way most of us get to be off duty ......Stella who gave you this information ????’‘. Was there more at play here ? Who was this new Lt female ? Was Cross’s mind blowing this out of proportion due to the fact that years ago the ship had been sabotaged by a man everyone thought was a new security and instead suspecting a female doctor who was send to replace Miriam.

Cross CMO.

Stella hung her head and shook it. It was to be the same here as her first year of the academy then. She took a deep breath and counted to ten to try and calm herself before saying, Lieutenant Cross. People talk. ” She then seemed to crumble before everyone’s eyes. Her shoulders slouched. Her eyes
went bleary. Cross was now going to invent a different place where she came on? She had even went shopping with her nurse before boarding. Maybe. and maybe she was losing her mind. After everything on the planet, she wasn’t sure. Now everything she knew to be a truth was something completely different.

Stella then waved her hands in front of Cross, her hands were shaky, and she looked as she spoke saying.” You know what? Forget the whole thing. ” She took a deep breath and said to Cross in a week voice. ” I’m not going to cause you any stress in your condition. So, I’ll just say it was ghosts on the planet touching me when I told them not to . And ghosts trying to get a bit too familiar during my physical. I should have known better, ” She seemed to wobble for an instant before she straightened herself. She then said to Cross in a tired voice. ” I’m tired to have bothered you doctor. She then left sickbay and headed toward her quarters.

She took them by surprise when all of a sudden Stella left . Cross shook her head sadly ‘’ Have a seat Hunter ,coffee? ‘’ she asked .The doctor sat down and shook his head he looked weary ,Cross could not put a finger as to why ‘’ Is there anything you want to talk about ? ‘’the CMO asked in a soft tone.

Some how the man did not look like his usual self ‘’ Cross its true I did put two fingers along her spine but as for the rest something is wrong with that young woman I did her medical just like I have done it with everyone else ,she babbled about alligators and an uncle which I could not really follow what she was talking about ‘’ taking a deep breath he continued ‘’ I feel incompetent that I could not do anything to help the beings we came across in the tunnels ‘’.

He then recounted what they had found while on the planet and how their DNA was manipulated by the Romulans ‘’They are now blind ‘’ and for a moment buried his face in his hands . Cross kept quiet waiting for him to compose himself which he eventually did ‘’They are the second and third generation with the manipulated DNA .I saw children who will never see the sky, the sunset, they cannot see how their parents and friends look like and I..I could do nothing except getting a crate out of the tunnels with how their DNA was and how it changed as proof which the Captain shall deliver to the Federation ‘’.

Cross could see he was clearly distraught ,getting up she put a hand on his shoulder ‘’ Hunter there was nothing you could do ‘’ as a doctor herself she knew all too well the feeling of being unable to help or cure someone ,the CMO wondered if the Captain had any idea of how it had effected him ,most probable Hunter had hidden his feelings well .

Cross CMO.

’’ Are you sure you want to work the night shift ‘’ Cross asked him ‘’I can stay here ‘’.

Hunter got up ‘’ Cross you need to rest ,don’t worry about me I’ll be alright ‘’ and with that the doctor left her office to go and check on the few patients that had been admitted to sickbay.

The CMO watched him leave,then she herself left sickbay for a quick shower and her next stop would be at the Dragon bar ‘’What a day!’’ she muttered to herself as she walked towards the turbo- lift.

Hunter was checking each patient’s report , the few that where there were fast asleep .Checking their vital signs and seeing everything looked in order the doctor headed to the office to tackle some of the paper work . He noticed that an ensign doctor had just checked in but for the time being Hunter just concentrating on the task ahead, at least it would help him take his mind of what they found in the tunnels.
