Joe entered the Dragon and as he neared the middle of the bar, he could feel the hair on the back of his neck start to stand on end. Something seemed creepy. It was then that there came a sneeze from behind the bar. Joe walked over and looking beneath the bar saw D’Nesh crouching like a frightened child. ” Not like the dark Joe!” she said in a soft voice.
“Well get out from there child. ” Joe laughed. ” And for the love of Mike what are you doing in your pajamas?” After this distraction Joe started to get his bar and grill ready for traffic. With an away team hopefully returning and the people on the ship getting off of double and triple shifts someone would be hungry and thirsty. He got a pot full of water and set it to boiling so that he could start Cross’s Spaghetti Bolognese first.

D’Nesh came out from under the bar ‘’ I was scared and ran to sickbay ‘’ she replied while rolling up her sleeves to help Joe prepare the food. They were alone and the ex Orion slave asked ‘’ Joe do you love the doctor and does the doctor loves you? ‘’ she asked in a rather childish manner.

D’Nesh.

Joe began to answer the question immediately without a thought. He had his mouth open and ready to speak before he stopped and wondered what sort of answer he should give D’Nesh. He didn’t want to confuse her but neither did he want to make her mad at anyone. ” Well hon.” he began. ” That’s a hard question to answer. The problem being that the whole thing involves male and female. Two genders with two different goals and two different ways of thinking. As for me well men are pretty simple minded. Or at least I am anyway. I love the doctor with no doubt in my mind whatsoever. Her on the other hand I think puts me on a scale every morning to make sure I weigh up to what she is expecting out of me. Most times I think I come out alright with her so I think she might be in love with me.”

She bit on her lower lip and quietly went on with her chores .Taking a tray full of sweet pastry to Joe D’Nesh asked ‘’Do you think I shall find a man who loves me ? I have served many , danced and sang but their faces where irrelevant , having no significant meaning or purpose to me for I knew they were there purely to be entertained ‘’ taking a deep breath she went on ‘’I’m sorry about the commotion I caused when brought here ,nothing was familiar to me for I had been brought up in a much different environment ‘’.

Joe considered the girl then. Thinking of her in that moment in a different light. He remembered his reaction to seeing her when she had arrived. Thinking that all her species were of the sort of female who wants to enslave men for their own use. But looking at her now. Having seen her so frightened and now with her asking such a question. The question carried with it a sound of loneliness. The sound of someone lost with no idea how to find their way home. Of not knowing even if there was something or someone anywhere in the universe that held anything for her other than hostility or endless hordes of people who never seemed to know you existed or even cared.

Joe found himself in an awkward position. For ever since the girl had been man handled in sick bay, he had taken a role of caretaker for her. He felt a fatherly kinship toward her. Because of this he gave the girl’s question careful consideration. For Joe was smart enough to know that he didn’t know everything. After giving great thought to the subject Joe replied finally saying. “A girl should not have to dance and serve to get a man’s attention my darling. If you want to find a man who loves you, simply be yourself. Just smile, be friendly adorable and curious. Be the person you are. And you will find love.”

D’Nesh listened attentively ,she had come a long way since stepping on the ship . When Hunter took her to sickbay , she screamed and bitten him for the ex Orion slave only knew the way of life she previously had been subjected too.

’’ I sang and danced because I was made too not that I wanted’’ she replied ‘’ Here I have seen another way of life which I never knew existed ‘’ taking a deep breath D’Nesh continued ‘’You and others have been kind to me and maybe one day I shall find a man who shall love me for who I am ‘’ then she surprised him by wrapping her hands around his waist ‘’ Thank you Joe ,doctor Cross is lucky to have you ‘’.

Joe smiled and hugged D’Nesh back. She was a nice girl. He then let her go and said to her with a crooked smile on his face,” Good I’m glad you think so. Maybe you can do me a favor and start telling her so every once in a while, when you see her. ” You know, because I think she forgets sometimes!” It was then a chime went off to signal that the Bolognese sauce was done. The spaghetti would be done before the next minute was over, so he walked back behind the bar to get Miri a large container plate and a container for some tea.

Cross had entered the Dragon bar and heard some of the ongoing conversation ,she smiled smiled inwardly . ‘’ Hi there guys sorry if I’m late by was held up in my office, guess what doctor Kim handed in his resignations.....anyway is my dish ready ? ‘’ she asked ‘’ I cannot remember when I last ate ‘’ .

Even as Cross was speaking Joe was busy plating her pasta. A large helping of it. Going back to the sauce pot he looked over his shoulder and said to Cross. ” Kim? Are you kidding?” Joe asked. ” You need to stop being so rough on them Miri.” he said laughing as he turned back to the counter with the pot full of sauce. He then began to cover the pasta with the sauce saying.” Yes, ma’am your dinner is served!”

Joe smiled as he watched Cross eat her dinner. He then acted startled as a bell noise went off behind him.” I almost forgot!” he said laughing to himself. He turned and went a short way down the bar where he disappeared beneath it and rose up in the middle of a cloud of garlic and freshly made bread. He brought over a small basket of fresh garlic knots and sat them down on the bar in front of Cross. ” These things are great.” he said with a smile. ” Great for cleaning sauce off your plate!”

Cross had finished eating and eyed the bread and garlic ‘’You know what from where I came from this would have been served before the main dish ‘’ then shrugged, though the doctor’s stomach felt full just so she would not disappoint him managed to take some bread with garlic .

‘’Wish I could stay’’ the CMO told Joe ‘’But I need to go back to sickbay ‘’ sliding off the stool she waved to D’Nesh while giving Joe a lingering look ‘’ We hardly spent any time together …I miss you ‘’ her tone sounded somber .

Joe had begun to clean the bar top as he looked across the room at Cross and said with a wicked grin. “Well, you know the captain can marry us and you’d have to get a few days off for a honeymoon even if we just lay in bed and snooze the time away. And I don’t know about you but I’d rather not have our son walking his mum down the aisle.” Joe then laughed and said to Cross as he waved his hand,” Now be off with you before I take you to my little cabin and hold you hostage!”

Cross looked at Joe as if he had gone mad ,she raised her finger the one with the ring he had given her ‘’ You gave me an eternity ring that’s all that maters ‘’ .Before she excited the Dragon bar the doctor thanked them both for the meal ‘’ I’ll be in sickbay ‘’ not that she wanted too, for Cross would have preferred to take a rest in her quarters but Hunter was still down at the planet and she had no idea if and when they will return.

OOC: I don’t think I’m already in this thread but i’m going to hop in.

Max had a very long day in engineering and through it would be a good idea to grab some food and a refresher at the end of the day at the Dragon Bar. He had not visited in the Dragon Bar yet since he joined the Merrimack so he wanted to see what it was like. After walking for a few minutes and riding in the turbolift, he arrived at the Dragon Bar. He walked in and took a quick look around. He noticed it was somewhat busy but not overlay packed. That made him happy. He didn’t want to be in the middle of a ton of noise. He noticed Lt Cross walking towards him and when Cross got to the door, Max nodded at him. He then went up to the bar and took a seat. He waited for someone to speak to him.

Cross smiled and nodded back ‘’Long time no see Lt Mullins ‘’ the doctor wished he had came sooner but alas she needed to head back to sickbay .

D’Nesh was preparing cocktails when she saw a man that she could not remember ever seeing ‘’ Good evening Sir ,shall I bring you the Menu ? ‘’ the ex Orion slave girl asked politely …she was learning and learning fast.
