Stella had washed up a bit in her quarters, brushed her thick black hair back a bit and made her way to the sick bay. Her long strides echoed down the aisles as she ate up distance as if she were a race. She looked back and forth chewed her lower lip for a moment as she thought she had become lost and then proceeded with a calm certainty. After all you couldn’t quite get so lost that you wound up somewhere else right? Finally, just ahead of her she saw a lot of people moving in and out of a door. Most were wearing medical uniforms so common sense would tell you that she had either found sick bay or everyone in sickbay were having a party somewhere else. She was hoping for the party right now actually after the day she’d had.

Stella stopped in front of the door ran her hand back over hair and reminded herself.” Remember to behave girl we have make a good first impression for a little bit at least.
’ She then walked into sickbay and reached out to touch a passing nurse on her hand before speaking.” Excuse me ma’am. I’m new and have to get my physical. Can you direct me to a doctor?”

‘’Off course dear’’ replied Kate ,she then pointed to Hunter who was doing his rounds’’ The tall doctor with the long hair ‘’ for some reason the N.O opted not to take this woman herself ‘’I’m sorry has just been called to assist in the theater ‘’ was her excuse .Though the truth was * Oh my she’s beautiful* she thought with a sinking heart.

Stella was a pretty plain girl and most times easy to talk to. This was not one of those times. At first, she had gotten a nice kindly direct answer from this nurse and then she’d changed her mind. ” Look Sugar.” Stella began. ” The man can’t be in two places at once. He’s either here or going to a movie. I just need a darn ol’ doctor you got another one beside Mister Movie over there? Who’s the boss in this here place anyway? Mon Dieu I just wanna get me a bite to eat and get these shoes off” She placed her hand then on Kate’s arm and asked her in a kindlier fashion. ” Can you help me with that sugar? That way you can go to the movies with…” here she paused and turned around appraising Hunter. ” Someone for everyone I guess.” she thought to herself. ” Yeah ” she spoke to Kate saying that way I can go see the boss doctor and you can go to the movies with beautiful over there, okay?”

Kate’s jaw fell open at the sudden change ‘’ I’m sorry you misunderstood me its the operating theater I meant and right now its doctor’s Hunter who is on shift ‘’.

The male doctor heard the commotion and went to investigate ,he saw Stella for the first time and strangely enough his heart started to beat at a faster rate ‘’I’m doctor Hunter ‘’ he introduced himself while offering a handshake ‘’ Have you come for your medical ? If so do please follow me ‘’ .

He pointed to an empty biobed ‘’Just lie down, make yourself comfortable ‘’ he took the medical tricoder and diagnostic wand ‘’Is there anything I should know before I start scanning?’’ Hunter spoke in a clear ,low tone and his demeanor was all professional.

Stella smiled a smile that would light up any room as she saw Doctor Hunter. She covered the doctors proffered hand just enough to let him know her hand was there. She was a lady after all. A common handshake like that of one between two men would not do. As she allowed Hunter the warmth of her hand, she also cleared her throat and looked down for a second as if embarrassed. She then looked up at Hunter and said in a somewhat sultry voice. ” Hello doctor honey. My name is Stella and yes, I have indeed come to get a physical.

As her hand touched his, Hunter’s brain decided to send a tingling sensation from his hand, up to his shoulders and neck ,it sure was something he never experienced before but with his clear blue eyes fixed on the new recruit the doctor held his composure ‘’Stella who ever named you must have seen the future ‘’ he replied.

After Hunter told her where and what to do, she giggled like a schoolgirl and replied.” Oh doctor! Not so fast sugar!” She then tugged at her short uniform skirt and cursed the wretched thing the whole time she was getting onto the bio bed. ” Nothing to report on me doctor. “She said. I always been healthy. Mama always said we come from good stock you know. Only one of us in our family ever was in a hospital was my uncle Beau who got his foot bit off by a Gater one night when him and some boys were drinking to much and he fell off a bridge into the swamp,”

Honey? Sugar? This young woman sure was self confident , seeing Stella tugging at her short skirt Hunter commented ‘’ No need to bother after all women have shorts under that skirt and if you feel more comfortable in a men’s uniform ,no one is going to blink an eye lid ,the CMO ‘s uniform is a tunic and trousers ‘’.

He started scanning and after reading the scan the doctor told Stella ‘’ All clear ,guess your mother was right ‘’ he offered a hand for her to get up ‘’Uncle Beau must have been lucky cause I bet in that swamp was just a tiny weeny alligator .Anyway my dear which dept shall you be working at?’‘.

” Doctor I’m pretty darn sure that I’m not a fella and I’m pretty sure everyone else knows it too. Might be darn odd and probably against someone’s rules to dress like one.” Stella said to Hunter as she lay there on the table watching all the scanning business.

Stella then took Hunter’s hand and sitting up, looked deep into his eyes and replied to Hunter.” Yeah, Uncle Beau was pretty lucky. That ‘ol Gater was just a young male. Only eleven and half feet. And with a full belly already or else we might have lost a lot more from Beau than his silly foot!”

Stella then found her footing on the floor and smiled brightly at Hunter saying,” Oh I’m to be the new communications officer hon. Can you tell me who I’m supposed to report to next?”

‘’The Captain and XO , though I heard the first officer is on his way to the ship ‘’ the doctor turned as he saw Cross coming in and going straight to her office ‘’ Oh dear, wait till she sees all the scattered Padds on her desk ,she wasn’t suppose to show up at this time ‘’ he spoke more to himself then to Stella.

‘’If you want to meet the Chief Medical officer she has just entered her office ‘’ Hunter told the new recruit ‘’She never close her office door unless its required and don’t call her ma’am cause she’ll have a fit ‘’ the male doctor chuckled.
